He's an entrepreneur, a philanthropist, podcast host. He's a keynote speaker. He's incredible. You know, coaches like the most amazing celebrities and athletes, bestselling author. And by the way, the podcast is incredible. Had the opportunity to be a guest there. And he wrote a book called Max Out Your Life. And he has a brand new book, which I recommend everybody puts into their speed reading, you know, to-read list. And that's The Power of One. Welcome to the show, Ed.
Great to be back with you, brother. And I cannot imagine a place I'd rather be than to spend a few minutes with you. So thank you.
I appreciate that. Now, we, we spend time together socially and, and, you know, at events and get to share the stage with you. And, you know, you are just such a powerhouse. You know, when, when people see you, you're always the top-rated speaker at these events of 10, 20, 30, 50,000 individuals there. And I'm usually, you know, right there in the front row. So I appreciate you. And, and you've had so many success. And people see online, you know, planes and islands and all that. The question I wanted to have with you is about time management, you know, and, and this idea in your new book about, you know, is it— can anyone— what can people do to triple their time management capacity?
I got to tell you, you've hit on maybe the one thing that's changed my life the last 25 years, which is the concept of time and bending and manipulating time. So here's the truth. The idea of a 24-hour day is so antiquated and ridiculous that we still measure time in 24-hour increments as a day. It's so terrible for people and their productivity. This concept has obviously got some crap to do hundreds of years ago about when the moon and this— we go around the sun and the moon and all that other stuff. There's no electricity. There were no cars. There was no internet. There was no television. It's insane that some guy 250 years ago had a 24-hour day and I do today with Google, with a smartphone. It's ridiculous. And so yet so many people obliviously are walking around their lives, right? To go 24 hours, that's one day. And so I thought about this years ago. I'm not that talented. I'm not the smartest guy. I'm not Jim Kwik, although I'm working on his technology to improve my brain. How do I move ahead? I got to change time. And so now a day for me, I run mini days. A day is from 6 AM to noon. That's a day. We've all had that morning in our life, Jim, where we go, I got more done this morning than I got done in 2 weeks. Well, then why can't that be all the time? Because of the way we measure time. So, now, by the way, I have some days, you have 24-hour days, we're like, today's a relaxation day, no problem whatsoever. So, I may have one of those days, but 6:00 AM to noon is a day. And in that day, I'm trying to get the fun, the spirituality, the productivity, the business things done, the fitness things done, family, in that window of time that most people blow 24 hours to get done. And then around noon, the clock goes off in my head and it's day 2. And what's powerful about that is now I'm measuring time. So, now I'm looking back at my last day just like people do at the end of their day when they're climbing into bed. What did I do? What did I not do? What am I grateful for? What efforts do I need to double and triple? What did I miss? What's on my list? Day 2 is noon to 6 PM. That's a day. Again, fitness, faith, spirituality, business, money, whatever it might be. Some days it's just fun, but that's a day, right? And then, the 3rd day is 6 PM to midnight. Same thing all over again. It's the 3 days. Now I'm getting 21 days a week and you're getting 7. Stack that up over a month, stack that up over a year, stack that up over a decade. Whose life is going to be richer in every single measurable way? The person who's changed and manipulated time. There's one other little kicker there, by the way. You do this for a month or 2, this little clock will start going off. I'm telling you, at noon, where you go, okay, that was a day, and you recalibrate. Most people Once a year, they take accountability. Really great productive people, maybe it's once a month. Some people, it's once a week on Sundays. The most productive people, every evening take inventory. How about superhuman people? Noon, 6 PM. And here's what starts to happen. You will change your life. But one other factor happens. The way the world treats you changes because now your time is more valuable and precious because it's more scarce. See, diamonds are worth more than paper because it's more scarce. And now, the way the world responds to you is very different because there's this scarcity, there's this value to your time that didn't exist before when you were running the same schedule as everybody else in your life. So, you may have hit on single-handedly, other than me building my identity and my confidence, the number one thing that has shifted my productivity, happiness. fitness, every area of my life for the last 25 years.
Everyone, you have to go get The Power of One More. As I've said in the previous episode, you have to get 3 copies. I implore you to do that. Get 1 for yourself and get 2 to be able to gift on because that's why we learn anything, how it could benefit us. We learn something just so we could benefit other people. I mean, it's so obvious when you point it out that way because instead of getting 7 days in a week, you now get 21 days in a week by taking a traditional day and just breaking it down into 3 smaller days. And then all of a sudden, as you talk about in the book, deadlines are much closer. You have a heightened sense of immediacy, more of an urgency to produce higher levels of success and achievement. And so it's possible absolutely to change our relationship with time to identify new opportunities. And you also talk about— I want to talk about this really briefly— is the multiplier. Well, what is that multiplier and these hidden opportunities?
Well, most times multipliers can be human beings too. When you add them to an organization, they multiply. just what they bring to the table, but they're a catalyst that changes everything around them. And again, using this example I used in the last show, but it's just one everybody's familiar with. Tom Brady, if you're a sports fan, he goes to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. So obviously, he's changed that team by his presence, but he was a multiplier.
Yeah.
He changed the work ethic of the team, the way they manage time, their belief systems, their expectations, their standards, and people want to gravitate. So Leonard Fournette joined the team. Antonio Brown, Rob Gronkowski, other players are added to the team because he's there. He's multiplied his presence by being this way. So when you take someone who changes time and they multiply things, that's, that's a complete game changer. I'll say one more thing, brother. I just want to get this in, and this is just for me and you because I haven't talked to you about it. As you know, my dad's decision to get sober was a multiplier for my family. It changed us forever. And about 2 weeks ago, after I saw you in Florida, I just want to share this with the entire audience. This is just for me and you but everyone gets to hear it. I woke up in tears because that decision, I'm not talking to you if my dad doesn't get sober. He's changed my family forever and I woke my wife up. I said, babe, Christiana! She goes, yeah, what? I said, someone helped daddy! I'm 51 years old, bro! This never occurred to me and she said, what, honey? I said, someone helped my dad! In some quiet moment in a coffee shop or a dark room in the lowest place of my father's life, Some other precious— I know, some other precious human being whom I don't know helped my dad change his life. And I said, babe, is that mind-blowing? And I said, here's what's most mind-blowing: what qualified them to help my dad? Their mess. The fact that they had made a life of their own that was a mess. They were also a drug addict. They were also an alcoholic. The things they were most ashamed of, most embarrassed by, the darkest moments of that person's lives Little did they know when they were doing all these things they were so ashamed of, their mess was qualifying them for that moment in that quiet place to change my father's life, to change my dad's life, to change my life. This person's mess is what qualified them. And so often in our lives, we think, well, sure, Tom Brady is a multiplier. Of course he is, but not me. I've made mistakes. I've had a bankruptcy. I had a relationship fail. I'm not successful yet.
Me?
Yes, you. Your very humanity, the things you're most embarrassed by, the things that are the most that you wish you could change about you, are the very things that qualify you to change other people's lives when you connect with them. Your mess becomes your message. Your test is your testimony. And this is amazing to me, brother, that I'm 51 and I just figured out the other night, it wasn't just my dad. Someone helped him. And this flawed person— This flawed person, whoever they were with all their flaws, changed millions of people's lives because of what I've been able to do in my life because my dad made that decision with the help of that person. I thought I would just share that about the multiplier.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! That we all have the potential to be a multiplier, you know, in somebody else's life by showing up for them, especially now, you know, and I'm curious because, you know, in the last 24 months plus, you know, if people have maybe had more mess in their lives. Yes, you are a student of success. Do you find in self-reflection that there's a new, maybe a new belief or a new behavior or a new routine or habit that has, has, that you've added in the past year or two that has enhanced your life and helped you to, to max out more?
Yeah. There's several and I know this isn't probably appropriate for the show but I'll just give you what it really is for me. I've gotten much more quiet. What that 2 years gave the gift for me is like, wow! There's some beautiful moments in quiet and solitude and some alone time and the world's moving so fast all the time. It's so fast! To take time and slow down and reflect, for me it's meditation and prayer of— What matters to me. When I pray and I meditate, I actually do it on my knees and people think, why do you do that? It just makes me feel small and it makes me grateful for the bigness of life, the bigness of the universe, the bigness of what our opportunities are. And so for me, it's reflection and slowing down and this one thing, brother. I met Wayne Dyer when I was very young. If everyone doesn't know who Wayne Dyer is, they should look him up. I know you know who Wayne is. And when I met him, he said, Ed, you're going to change the world! And I'm sure he said this to lots of other people, Jim, but he said, and you've got a great voice and you've got a mind, and I just think there's things about you. And he goes, and none of that's why you're going to change the world. And I said, well, why am I? And he goes, because your heart is so dedicated to serving people. Your intentions are so good. And he said, would you do me a favor for the next rest of your life? And I was 30. I said, yes, Dwayne. He said, never link your self-confidence to your ability all the time. Link it to your intent. And I said, you know what? I do know that about me. I do want to serve. And he said, if you're always linking it to your ability, you're going to be chasing that tail all your life. Link it to your intentions. Get confidence in your intent. Get certainty in your intent to serve. And I got to be honest with you, before we do a podcast like this, I'm on stage in front of 40,000 people, I walk into a business meeting, I always remind myself of my intent and I almost get this superhuman confidence because I do know I intend to serve. And so that reconnection with my intentions It's been a major habit change for me the last 2 years, that reminder.
So much wisdom in this book, The Power of One More. Where can people go and get their copies?
Anywhere books are sold. If you go to thepowerofonemore.com, there's a website that can enhance the experience for you with some different things there. But I recommend that you go to Amazon, Target, or bookstore in your area, wherever you are, and pick up The Power of One More. I would be grateful that you did, and I think you will be.
I can guarantee that if they're listening to this episode, which obviously they are, you know, titled, triple time-managed capacity, your time management, and you want to get more out of the day, I think one of the best ways of doing it is by reading. Ed here has decades of experience. You can sit down and most of you are quick readers, read that book in a few days. You can download those decades of wisdom into days. And that's a wonderful way with technology and we have immediate access to information, unfeathered access, and maybe you want to look into it. And I'm curious who's listening right now is willing to try having these 3 days in 1 day to do a 21 Ed Day week with me. And so I would challenge everybody to take one small— do one more thing, right? Take a screenshot of this and tag Ed. Make sure you're following him on social media, tag myself, and let us know your feedback. If you're going to go for doing these, get triple return. And that's you becoming a multiplier for other people's lives.
Yes.
Like that companion was for your father, who you never know where that ripple Stops, right? You know, it just goes the edges of the cosmos. I truly believe that, that the life we live are lessons we teach.
So do I, brother. Amen.
Completely agree. Thank you, Ed, for being on our show again. Everybody go get copy, get 1, 2, 3, 30 copies of, of the book.
