Four mistakes drain data collection efforts: asking subscribers too often causes fatigue, offering weak rewards kills participation, collecting data without using it wastes the effort, and ignoring mobile optimization frustrates users on SMS. Space out requests, reward fairly, and actually use what you learn.

What are the 4 that you can think of when you go into it?
Yeah, I'd say I guess the first would be kind of over-surveying. When we tell people to survey, there's just going to be a small group of people that are just going to go to the nth degree and do the extreme, right? So with that, subscribers will get tired if you're always asking for input. Space out your quizzes and polls. It shouldn't be a regular occurrence. It should be something obviously that you do ongoing, but it shouldn't be something that you're doing daily or weekly. You need that data to really make it valuable for everyone involved, but you don't want to just batter and bother people like nobody's business. Yeah, I think that's a really good point. If you already have close enough or good enough data and pretty rich information on the individual subscriber, exclude them from any kind of future asks where the information isn't going to be that much more helpful. Number 2 would be lack of incentives. Again, we're humans. We need something to move the needle. We're not going to just give this away for free just because we might slightly like you, right? You need to give your subscribers, your customers, your prospects a reason to participate. Don't make it insulting. Like, don't go give away like 5%. Make it something, you know, large enough where they could care, but not kind of egregious where it's like it's not a blowout. Black Friday type offer. So that's the second one. And then I guess the third one would be like failure, as Jimmy just mentioned, to act on the data. There's really no point in going through building out the forms and the collection mechanisms and then asking for it, just receive it and let it kind of go stale and collect dust. So if you are going to collect this data, make sure that you have a plan of attack to actually leverage it, leverage it within the segmentations, leverage it within your content. And then I guess the last one would be don't ignore mobile experience. So if you're sending SMS, like 100% of your traffic is going to be mobile, like Build something special for that. Also, just be mindful that you're optimizing for desktop as well as mobile. So again, the goal here is to create a better experience. Don't let the data collection become an annoyance because then that's going to be a net loss. Subscribe to the pod.
