In this conversational segment of Jimmy Kim’s podcast, the hosts discuss optimal timing for SMS marketing. They identify three primary windows when recipients are most likely to engage: the morning commute (early‑day break), the lunch break (around noon‑1 pm local time), and the late‑afternoon/evening “couch scroll” period (approximately 3:30‑5 pm when people finish work early). They advise marketers to run split‑tests across consistent weekdays for three weeks, tracking hourly click‑through rates to determine which window yields the highest engagement for their specific audience. The segment emphasizes a data‑driven approach—letting the numbers reveal the winner—while concluding with a prompt to subscribe to the podcast.

What about SMS campaigns? You know what I mean? Like, texts have zero, like, scroll buffer, right? They're like front screen, like, intrusions. They show up. It's a privilege. We know we tell people to choose wisely, but the reality is there is a timing part to it. What are your thoughts?
Yeah, I'd say like a couple areas to kind of focus on a couple times to kind of hone in on at least initially and then let the data do the talking is people's morning commute when people at home might be kind of itching for a break in that morning, right? Again, that morning kind of break to go on a walk or, I don't know, just scroll social. Lunch break, right? So depending on person, it's typically noon, 1 o'clock, kind of people's local time zone. And then also to kind of get the couch scroll, like when are people going to be kind of just chilling on the couch and getting off early? I've been heading to the airport and going to certain places lately, and I'm shocked at like how early traffic starts, right? Most people think that people get off at 5. I see a lot of people are getting off at like 3:30, 4 o'clock these days. And with that, like when you test these out, they can kind of pull the click percentage by hour and see which of those kind of buckets that I mentioned, the morning commute, the lunch break, or kind of the afternoon kind of couch scroll tends to be the best. And if you're not sure, just run a split test. So I'd go like Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 3 weeks in a row, pick like kind of the same consistent days, the same consistent times. And during each session, just see kind of what happens. And within a month, you're going to see some kind of clear winner. I don't know which one it's going to be for you, but there's going to be some winner that shows in the data. Subscribe to the pod.
