Harvested or purchased lists. In the USA, we live in an opt-out state. And what that means is essentially you can email anybody you want ultimately, as long as you're giving him a clear unsubscribe. However, we're all e-commerce marketers and the last thing you want to do is jeopardize your deliverability. You want to jeopardize problems behind it, spam traps, sender reputation. All of these are at risk when you're sending to these purchased or harvest lists. Ultimately, it's never a safe thing to do. Yes, you can do it, you can consider it, but the reality of it is it is putting yourself at risk each and every time. So if you're purchasing lists, even when you're thinking about third-party identity tools, I love them, they're important. There's great filters and education around how to leverage and maximize it, but they aren't subscribed to your list honestly at the end of the day. And if they're not really subscribed to your list and they don't want it, the last thing you want is them to report you to Spamhaus or SpamCop or any of these places and get yourself in trouble all over a single email address and people that are probably not gonna buy your product that easily anyway.
