Jimmy Kim explains how broken syncs between Shopify and email platforms like Klaviyo or Omnisend silently break your automation and analytics. Check your event stream for gaps in the past 24 hours. Brands have missed 20-30% of revenue because attribution settings were disabled.
Are your events syncing from your Shopify to your ESP? So are they syncing from like your Shopify to your Omnisend account?
Okay, so you're talking about things like placed order, added to cart, started checkout, viewed product, fulfilled orders, things like that?
Exactly right, because if these aren't firing, then your flows won't be able to trigger and your segments are going to be wrong. So your analytics are therefore going to be completely useless and garbage. So I'd say the popular 2, right, are kind of Omnisend and Klaviyo. So if you're using those, go to like your event speed, you know, filter by, let's call it like the last 24 hours. You should be able to see— and again, depending on the size of your store, you're going to see more or less, but you should be able to see steady stream of events. You know, if it's sparse or there are gaps, that means something is more than likely broken, right? And then you also want to check kind of your revenue attribution settings. So making sure that the revenue is being properly attributed to your emails and your SMS messages, etc. You know, we've seen brands where attribution was turned off and they thought email was doing nothing. Turns out it was driving revenue, right? It was driving 20-30% of revenue. They just couldn't see it.
