How to follow up with relationships after a networking event

In this live demo, Joe Apfelbaum walks through a complete workflow for turning business‑card contacts into actionable relationships using Evvy AI and related tools. He shows how to locate a contact’s LinkedIn profile (or handle the case when it’s missing), add the person to Evvy AI, import and parse a VCF file, convert it to CSV, enrich the record with email and phone data, and sync the contact to the GoHighLevel CRM. He then demonstrates a real‑time phone call to Adam Adelson (Managing Partner at Hydrate) to verify LinkedIn presence, discuss posting habits, and schedule a follow‑up demo. Throughout the session Joe shares LinkedIn best‑practice advice—why individuals should post daily, the difference between reposting and original posts, and how to leverage Evvy AI’s AI‑generated content. The demo also includes a quick recap of the many people Joe met at the event, how he logs them in Evvy AI, and how he coordinates meeting invites with his assistant. The overall purpose is to illustrate a repeatable, technology‑enabled process for nurturing networking contacts and turning them into sales opportunities.

So you might not know this, but you can actually use Evvy AI to help you follow up with people that you meet at networking events. And most people don't realize the power of building relationships using Evvy AI. So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna show you exactly how I do that. Using Evy AI. So I have a list of people who I met at the networking event because they gave me their business cards. And what I'm going to do is I'm going to look for each person. Like for example, this person over here was one person that I met and I built a relationship with him. Now the problem is, is that I don't have him saved inside Evy AI. So I'm going to click on his LinkedIn profile that I found right over here. And I'm gonna look for him inside LinkedIn. And I'm gonna look for Adam over here. See if I could find him. He might not be on LinkedIn here. And if he's not on LinkedIn, I can save him into Evvy AI without him being on LinkedIn. But I'm just trying to see if he actually has a LinkedIn account. And I don't see him on LinkedIn, which is interesting. This guy's networking and building relationships, but he's not on LinkedIn. So what I'm gonna do is I'm going to open up Evvy AI.
Like this.
And I'm going to click on network and I'm going to simply add them to the network without necessarily adding him to, um, yeah, I'm just dragging information. I'm actually going to add his company, um, copy link address, his company LinkedIn URL in here. And, um, I'm going to add managing partner at Hydrate. And then I'm just going to add his company name as Hydrate here. And then I'm going to say Strategic Forum book signing. And I'm going to do 6/26/26. Wow, that was 6/26/26.
Now 6/25/26. Okay.
And now I'm going to press add, which will add them to that list. And then I'm going to press save and it'll save him into Evvii. Okay, so now I have him saved into Evy AI. I'm gonna grab information right from here and add it as a note over here. You see it says add a note. And then what I'm gonna do is I'm also gonna add his bio. So I have a bio right over here for him. So I'm gonna press save. And then I'm gonna click on the awareness tab and say, go through the notes and enrich his email and his phone number into The system. So the system will go and enrich his email and his phone number and, you know, just go through all those notes and put it together. Now I'm going to check to see if I have a separate cell phone number for him, because this says office here, but I do have a little vCard that I can download here and inspect. I'm going to go ahead and I'm going to try to open the vCard. Now the problem is I can't open the vCard. So I'm going to go to school. And I have inside our classroom in the library, I have many links. I'm going to do Ctrl+F VCard, VCF, convert VCF to CSV, VCF generator, VCF card manager.
Interesting.
I'm going to go to the VCF to CSV just to kind of see what that looks like. I'm going to drag the VCF in here, convert to CSV, and it converts it to a CSV.
Interesting.
Um, what I actually want to create is a VCF card reader. Let me go to the card manager. Let me go back to the VCF card manager and see if that is a reader. So I'm going to click on file chosen. Uh, drop a VCF file or paste data.
I'm going to refresh this page, see if it actually loads properly. Okay, there you go.
So it says drop a VCF file. So I'm going to go ahead and drop this VCF file. Oh, look at that. It shows me what's in here. Voice phone. So there's 2 voice phones and, um, ending in 67. So let me see if it's the same number ending in 67. So it looks like it's the same number. I'm going to go ahead and add his number right over here. I'm going to add his email address right over here. And then what I'm going to do is I'm going to sync it with GoHighLevel, which means I'm going to throw it into GoHighLevel just like that. And then I'm going to open up GoHighLevel and I'm going to give him a call to ask him what is the deal with him not having a LinkedIn. Which is so weird. Um, so let me go ahead and call him right now and you guys will listen to the call right now. All right, let's see what happens. So you see—
Morning, can I help you?
Hi, is this Adam?
Yes.
Hi, this is Joe Apfelbaum. And the reason why I'm calling is because we met last night and I'm looking for your LinkedIn profile everywhere and I can't find it. Are you not on LinkedIn?
Of course I'm on LinkedIn.
You are?
Yeah.
Isn't that weird that if I look through your company Hydrate and like on, on your— I Googled you and on, on the E-A-N-J website, it shows LinkedIn, but it goes to your company page. And then I go through your company page to look at everybody that's there. And I don't—
Are you spelling my name properly?
Yeah, it, it's Adelson, right?
Yeah. A-D-A-M-A-D-E-L-S-O-N.
Yeah, that's what I did. And I couldn't— okay, so I found you now. When I go— when I searched you on LinkedIn, I found you, but it's so funny that you don't come up under the company page.
That's so weird.
Okay. Under the Hydrate page?
Under the one that— yeah, under the Hydrate page. If I go to— you, you have it on your account over here, but if I click on 11 to 15 employees, You're not coming up under there. I don't see you come up under there. That's so funny. I went— because from the execs page, I went to—
Yeah, I don't know. I don't know why. I see what you mean.
Yeah. And I looked who works there and you don't show up as working there. So, and then I Googled you and when I Googled you, your page doesn't come up on Google, which is so funny.
That's also terrible.
Um, we gotta work on that. We gotta look at that, work on that, and fix that. Okay. Um, very nice. How are you? How was your, how was your event yesterday?
I think the event was great. I'm actually sending a thank you note to everybody who came.
Wonderful. Wonderful. Okay. Well, um, I also see that you haven't posted on LinkedIn in more than a month. Any reason why you're not regularly posting?
Um, I think that my company does a lot of their— we have a sales and marketing person who does a lot of our posts. So for me to post and them to post, it almost becomes redundant.
Yeah.
And I don't want to be perceived as that.
Yeah, I get that. I get that.
I feel, I feel that our message is best through the Hydrate, you know, and us consistently putting messages out through the Hydrate LinkedIn.
So just so you know, just so you know, I've been teaching LinkedIn for the past—
I know you have. I know.
10 years, but no. So what I want to say is that, may I offer you a little bit of a different, uh, a different perspective from someone who's been networking for like 15 years and teaching LinkedIn for over 10? So the person—
I'm a listener and learner, so I'm all about it.
So here's, here's the perspective. There's 2,159 people that follow you on LinkedIn. Many of them know you, like you, and trust you. But if you're not posting regularly on LinkedIn, they won't see it, even if your marketing company or your marketing manager is posting on the Hydrate page every day. So those people get totally ignored and they don't remember that you exist simply because you're not posting on LinkedIn regularly. So my recommendation for you is, and I know it might be a lot of work, but you know, our technology just writes the post for you in 2 seconds. So, um, in your voice. And so my recommendation is that each person that's in sales should be posting on LinkedIn once a day, because after a day the post dies. And if you want your network to remember that you exist, it's not overkill because they only see it when they go on the feed. That's the idea. People are not just seeing it.
If you, if I, again, I'm curious to ask. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but I'm just going to ask you because you're the expert. But if I repost—
That's not the same as posting. Now, reposting is not the same as posting. You're just promoting their post, which is fine. It's not bad to repost, but reposts don't actually come up as an actual post. You get what I'm saying? A repost is just a repost. It's not an actual post. So the best thing to do is to actually write a post.
Do the people that follow me get to see the repost if I repost it?
Not really, unless there's nobody else posting. So if you go to— if they're following the page and they're connected to you, they will see it. Um, but if they're not following the page and they're just connected to you, which is probably most of your connections, chances are they won't see it. Because if you go to the feed, you ever go to the LinkedIn feed just to see what's on linkedin.com?
No.
If you, if you go to the LinkedIn feed, the LinkedIn feed prioritizes people's posts from human beings, cuz those are the ones that get the most engagements. If you go right into the feed and you look, always the first post, Is always from a person. And it's always within the past 24 hours. That's how it works every single time. And so if it prioritizes the person's— people's posts and people are not posting, it's a missed opportunity.
I agree. That's great. Good information.
And that's what I love teaching people. And by the way, our software comes with a ton of training. So when you get the software for your people, for yourself and the people internally, um, it comes with a ton, a ton of training. So I highly recommend, um, you know, looking into it. If you want to do a demo, we can get on a Zoom later and we can do a demo together. Would you be open to just watching what I do, like as a demo?
Yeah, for sure. I, I will be transparent to you just because of where we are today in the next couple of days. It is the end of the month and end of the quarter. So, uh, as the sales manager running the sales team, it's very important that I focus on, you know, ending the month strong and to, you know, pull me away to something like this, which is something I'm interested in, but I just, I can't focus.
Let's do it in July. Let's do it in July. Yeah. Do you want to do it July 6th or July 7th? What would be more convenient for you?
Um, so I land here in Brooklyn on Mondays and Fridays pretty consistently. So I would say that those are the best dates for me, is either a Monday or Friday. Um, I will tell you that the, the 10th is not a good day. I would tell you either the 13th or the 17th is probably better for me.
Perfect. Perfect. Let's do the, let's do the 13th at 11:00 AM. I'll send you a calendar invite and we'll take it from there.
That's fine. That works for me.
Awesome. Awesome. Well, I appreciate you very much. Good luck closing the month strong. And it was really a pleasure connecting with you and taking our relationship to the next level. I can't wait to show you what we're doing and supporting your goal in the coming year.
So Q3 will be stronger than Q2.
Yep.
That's what we want. We want to boost our sales and continue this crazy growth that we're in.
So, all right.
Well, Glad we're chatting.
You can see, at least from— I hope you see from our Hydrate page, we are pretty active.
Oh yeah, you're definitely active on the Hydrate page, no question about it. That's why I wanted to reach out. I was like, oh, he's not even on there, what's going on? So I called you just for that. But I do see that you're pretty active on the Hydrate page. That's really, really good. And you guys posted 2 days ago. That's good.
We post all the time. We post all the time. Yeah, we literally have an employee whose job it is to do this.
So, and that employee would benefit so much from learning from our tips on how to take it to the next level.
Maybe, maybe she'll join me for the meeting.
I would love that.
I would love that.
If you send me her email, I'll add her to the calendar.
This might— it's just Amanda.
Amanda at— got it. I'll do that. I'll add it to the calendar. Yeah. All right.
Amanda at hydra.us.
All right, great. I'll do that. All right. Thank you so much. Appreciate you, Adam, and we'll talk soon. God bless you.
You got it, Joe. Thank you. Same to you.
All right.
Bye.
Okay. So I got to book that meeting. Let me just tell my assistant real quick. Uh, I just booked a meeting for Monday the 13th at 11:00 AM for 30 minutes.
Can you do me a favor and send the guy a calendar invite? Ask me about it when I'm done my Live.
Okay, so I just want to show you guys how powerful it is to network and build relationships. So who did I network yesterday?
I met with members of Provisors, the Strategic Forum, and the Executives Association of New Jersey, and many other members from all walks of life that came together to support Jeffrey Michelle on his launch of his new book. And I had such a good time. And here are some of the people that I met. Provisors Strategic Forum. They don't have a company page. Executives Association of New Jersey. Company and many other members from Oxlade came to support Jeff Michelle. Jeff Michelle. Jeff Michelle. Okay, I'm gonna pull this together. From Hydrate, who was so gracious and nice, and I got to connect with him. He has such amazing expertise in strategic negotiation, sales leadership, coaching, CRM optimization, and so many other amazing things. He helps companies with premium hydration and coffee solutions. Who has an incredible bridal company, and she was very gracious and we got to connect. I'm looking forward to showing her how to hire people using LinkedIn. Who runs a ProVisors group herself, and she is pretty awesome. She's the founder and managing partner of a full-scale offshore staffing company. Who for two decades he's been instrumental in helping individuals and business owners fulfill their needs and desires in the areas of life insurance and estate planning.
Running.
Who told me that he doesn't think that LinkedIn really works, and I'm gonna turn him around because he's open to be turned around. I'm going to change his beliefs around LinkedIn. Who not only helped Jeffrey with his book, but also helped other people there with their books. And it was really interesting to have a conversation with her and build a relationship in person with her. She's an incredible ghostwriter for 25 years. Such a giver, part of so many networking groups, and just an amazing person. Looking forward to going deeper with him. He services over 100 companies with their managed IT services. He's a great, outstanding, inspiring guy with 7 children. Unbelievable. We got to go deep. Turns out he is a kosher-eating, deal-living, amazing guy who sells private jets to people. Unbelievable. I'm looking to going— looking forward to going deeper with him and really getting to know him a lot more.
Hi, Jen.
Joe, can you reply Michael, please?
Where?
For the CertiPro meeting.
What do you want me to reply?
Can— well, he sent a bunch of notes. Agenda at top, I put our sections on red background, blah blah blah.
What do you want me to reply? Everything's fine.
I mean, he's asking if you have any thoughts on the agenda.
No thoughts. It's just the guy. The guy didn't even close yet. It's fine. Everything's fine.
Okay. Okay. We are joining slash Zoom.
Okay.
I'll be.
I'll be there in a minute. I'll be there in two minutes. Thank you.
Thank you. Okay.
Bye.
Okay. Let's see what else we got over here. JJ Joe Applebaum Jonathan Gold Kelly Adams. Let's see, Leah Croft, Maggie, Mark. Oh, Mark, I'm gonna definitely write Mark. Me and him go back because I know he just loves Gemini, but he went to 2 LinkedIn trainings we did for cross-marketing for the marketing agency, and he's moving around between Florida and New Jersey and I just loved connecting with him overall. He has really great vibes. We connected about his passion for building companies and how he helps so many companies with voice technology, and I'm looking forward to following up with him. He's part of the Executives Association of New Jersey as well. He was telling me how he knows Jeffrey for 40 years and how he builds toys for people. Um, and I was very interested in learning about the types of toys that he's building. Congratulations on her new book that she was— just came out with. And I'm excited about learning more about her book and about her practice that she has in Manhattan, helping people with therapy. She lives in New Jersey and her husband lives with her there and her kids. And I'm just so excited about learning more about what she's up to. Her husband happens to be a producer who travels a lot.
I want to learn more about her and get to know her more.
I'll remove that part because it's too long. Let's see if I delete that if it'll work. Ah, 7. Congratulations on our new book.
I'm gonna remove that.
All right, there we go. Let me know if you want to see the rest of the people that came. I'll put all their bios in the chat. All right, let me just go here. No call to action. I gotta go to my next slide.
