Live Cold Calling on LinkedIn with Joe Apfelbaum CEO evyAI.com

In this LinkedIn Live session, CEO Joe Apfelbaum conducts a real-time cold call with a prospect named David, a fine‑art woodworker who creates high‑end wooden urns. Joe qualifies David’s business, uncovers his market challenges, and proposes a niche targeting strategy focused on funeral directors and pet‑hospital grieving rooms. He advises creating lead magnets such as an urn‑buying guide and an ashes‑handling guide, and schedules a high‑energy Zoom demo for the next day. The session also includes a rap‑style brand intro positioning Joe as the “LinkedIn Daddy,” internal coordination with team members Tammy and Nehama on website edits for the upcoming Influencer Summit, and a walkthrough of the summit’s landing page, call‑to‑action elements, and GoDaddy partnership mentions. Throughout, Joe demonstrates live sales coaching techniques, prospect qualification, market research (e.g., 41,000 funeral directors on LinkedIn), and operational logistics for follow‑up calls and event promotion.

Hello, Wayne?
Who's calling?
This is Joe. Um, were you looking for clients or for a job? Because you submitted a form today about 11 hours ago asking for some information about our 99 LinkedIn Hacks. Were you looking for new clients? Are you like doing consulting, Wayne?
Uh, I'm in consulting, but, um, bad time to talk.
Bad time?
Okay.
We can talk a different time. I'll just keep you on the list and we'll call you a different time. Thank you, Wayne. So I'm just moving him from one stage to another right now. Hello, is this David?
This is, yes.
Hi David, my name is Joe, and the reason why I'm calling is because you requested some information about some LinkedIn training. Are you looking for new clients, or are you looking for For a job. Which one, David?
Clients. But it would be for— I have a startup business. I'm a fine art woodworker.
Oh, wow.
And I've been doing it for a while. Been doing it for a long time, but I really have been kind of stuck. And I thought maybe LinkedIn would be— Yeah.
LinkedIn might be the right solution for people that are stuck. What location are you based out of? Are you in the US?
Yes, I'm in Kansas City right now, but I don't see my market being very good here because People in Kansas buy plows, they don't buy urns. And I do, I do fine art.
I love that, I love that. I see that you have 120 followers on LinkedIn and you do fine art wooden urns. Very interesting.
Yeah, go look at my site.
I'm looking at your LinkedIn profile right now. I'm gonna click on contact info and hopefully FarkWoodArt.com and then you have Fark Wood. No, that's an old one. Oh, you have the urns one as well. Both of them are not working for some reason and they're on your profile. You might benefit from at least some basic LinkedIn training on how to properly leverage LinkedIn. How do you get customers right now?
Listen to other people tell me about how they're getting customers.
Oh, really?
No. I mean, you know, here's the thing. I used to do really well. I was— I optimized my site when that was very important. I also— it got me through a real tough divorce about 10 years ago.
Congratulations, by the way, because I've been through the wringer myself.
Oh, it was miserable. It was like the worst 2 years of my life. But at that time, things were going a lot better for me than now. And I hired somebody at that time. I used Intuit. I used Homestead, I guess is what they called it, but it was owned by Intuit. And they optimized my site and they did really well. And I was— I sold 2 to 3 a month, maybe 4 a month, and it got me through that.
Wow.
You know? Yeah.
Well, how much do you charge for each one?
My price point is between— oh, it depends whether it's for pets or for people. My pet ones are for about $1,200 to $1,200. No, my full-size rooms are—
I'll call you after Shabbos, okay?
Like $500.
I love you, Mommy.
In that range, which is a reasonable range. I've already checked out in my range. The only thing is, is that, um, I also need lower-end ones, which I'm gonna— which Which is what I'm doing right now. It's 18 degrees outside. It's very cold. Yeah, it's very cold. My, my, um, workshop is outside, so I can't do anything. And it's been this way for like about 2 months. So once it cools— and once it heats up, I mean, then I can, then I can go back in my woodshop and I can start making the lower-end ones. I've kind of been told— I have a mentor from the Small Business Administration, and I'm doing really well when it comes to what I should do. The only problem is, is that I'm— there's a lot of things I'll give I'll give you an example. After a lot of consideration within this past week, I came to realize that my website has no hooks in it. Like, there's no hooks. I don't know if you know what I mean.
I mean, if you're— of course I understand what you mean. You don't have a lead magnet. You're charging $1,865 for an urn.
Yes, right.
For a wooden— by the way, I must say, a beautiful urn. Metallic blue epoxy resin, inlaid turquoise stones. It's, it's a serious thing. Like, yeah, who buys such a thing and what do they use it for?
Urns? Well, different people do. Um, yes, for ashes. That's one.
So funeral homes, funeral homes would be a great, uh, center of influence for you.
That's exactly what I'm doing right now. There's another one too, though. Get this. Every pet hospital has a grieving room where they offer wooden— where they offer urns. And they offer earnings, you know, you go in and you're like—
That's a great idea. That's a great idea.
Yeah, but here I am. That's exactly what I'm doing. In fact, I'm first hitting the Kansas City area just to get a, a, a niche market.
Forget about Canvas for a second. If you're on LinkedIn and you search funeral director on LinkedIn, how many people do you think are on LinkedIn with the term funeral director in their profile?
I don't know, but that's a good idea.
Funeral directors. I would just search. And when I searched, the last time I searched in North America alone, There were 12,000+ people with the word funeral homes in their profile. For funeral director, I'm going to check right now. Director, funeral director, 41,000 funeral directors are in North America on LinkedIn.
I mean, that's what I'm thinking also. And that's the reason why, that's exactly why I contacted you because I knew there was a market.
Yeah, there's definitely, there's definitely a market, but knowing how to A, get them on the phone, Build a relationship with them, and then showing them, taking them through the process of looking at your urns, and then maybe creating a lead magnet, maybe an urn buying guide, or a what to do with the ashes guide. And what are the most popular things that people do with ashes? And then you show your urns in between. That could be a very nice, a very nice guide that you kind of walk people through, because most people, most people have no idea. how to be able to deal with their deceased when they're creating ashes, whether, whether it's an animal, deceased animal, or whether it's a deceased family or something, you know?
Right on. Yes, I do know. And that's kind of my, my challenge. I've been doing this for 25 years.
So here's, here's what I suggest. Here's what I suggest that we do. Why don't we hop on a Zoom call where I show you some technology that you could learn how to use? If you're available by a computer now, because it's so cold outside, you must be indoors. Why don't you jump onto my Zoom right now and I can show you? Would you like that, or would you like to schedule a time for tomorrow, maybe?
Let's schedule a time for tomorrow because I'm at the library and they're going to close down here pretty soon.
Okay, okay.
I won't have— in about 40 minutes, I'm going to be out of here.
Do you have internet at home?
Oh, not right now. I can bring it back here tomorrow.
Okay. What time do you think you'll be back tomorrow? Around the same time or earlier?
Earlier. How about, um, is 1:30 okay with you?
Yep, 1:30 works fine for me.
Okay, what— where are you located?
I'm 1:30— I'm in, I'm in New Jersey, so 1:30, 1:30 your time is 12:30 my time. I believe you're in Central, right?
Yeah, yes, Central Standard. Yeah.
Okay, great. I will send you a calendar invite.
Excellent. Okay.
To your email. I have your firstname_lastname@hotmail.com.
That's me.
Perfect.
There's a— I have— I know that there's a lot of things I can do to improve where I am today. If you look at fine art wooden urns, you'll see where I am. And, um, it needs to start with that.
Yeah, fine art wooden—
wood—
oh, wooden urns. Yeah, yeah, I definitely checked out that GoDaddy website that you built.
Yes.
And by the way, we are a GoDaddy partner, just so you know. So I'm very tied in with GoDaddy.
Okay, excellent. Well, my opinion of GoDaddy is that I could have done a lot more, and I don't know exactly what my next step will be. And that's really—
Your next step, in my opinion, your next step needs to be getting on the phone with funeral directors as a next step. That would be the next step. If I, if I were you and I was selling $2,000 urns, yes, that's the next step that I would say. I'll be like, okay, I need to get on the phone with funeral directors, so I need 2 things. I need people that could walk me in the door to funeral directors, people that are in insurance, you know, members of the clergy, whatever. And, um, I would— yeah, that's basically what I would do. And also directly with funeral directors. I'm going to send you my Zoom link for tomorrow. It's going to be on high energy— high energy—
I would've never guessed.
It's going to be on highenergyzoom.com. That's my Zoom room, but I'm going to send you an email with that so that you can access it.
Excellent. Well, thank you very much for your help. What was your first name?
My first name is Joe, J-O-E. I also texted you my LinkedIn profile earlier today. I don't know if you got it at— it was early in the morning when you filled out the form at 4:30 AM, which was actually 3:30 your time.
Yeah. Well, I'm kind of like, I wake up and like in Europe they have what's called the watch. Like everybody kind of wakes up at this time, at that time in the morning. And I always have.
I've been—
I consider myself a night owl because at 4 o'clock or 3 o'clock every day I wake up and I, I do my work. That's the most creative time of my whole day.
Amazing. Amazing.
Yeah, it's really cool. Sometimes you get this— I'll tell you a quick story. In weather like this, when I was going through that divorce, yeah, it'd be freezing in my garage because it was— there was no heat in there. It was separate from the house. Yeah.
But you know, you just walk right in there.
And so, um, you know, there I was, I gotta make something. It's 3 in the morning. I flip the light on and I go in there butt naked and I work until I shiver.
Oy vey. So you're in there butt naked, just working out, having a great time, enjoying life. Why not? Is that called skinny dipping woodworking?
It was like the, like, what do they call that? The, uh, the bear, the, um, Polar Bear Club.
Exactly.
It's like the Polar Bear Club for woodworking. It was a blast. I loved it. It really woke me up. I tell you what, I did some of my most creative work of my whole woodworking in that. It was very cool. I would work until I shivered and I couldn't work any longer.
Unbelievable.
Unbelievable. It was so much fun. It was so intense. You know, that's what made it fun.
Wow. Well, I'm excited about talking to you tomorrow. Thank you so much for taking some time for speaking to me today.
Thank you, Joe.
And, uh, we're gonna continue our conversation.
Okay, don't tell everybody about that naked thing.
Oh, don't worry, I won't tell anybody. I don't think anybody's listening right now.
Sounds decent. Joe, thanks very much, and I'll see you tomorrow at, uh, uh, 1:30.
I will see you tomorrow at 1:30. Appreciate you very much and looking forward to chatting with you.
Thanks a lot, brother. I'll talk to you soon.
Bye.
Yes, Jen.
I am here to remind you that you have a call on Sunday, 1 PM Eastern. Okay.
It's a demo.
With who? Um, I have Anthony Thomas. Okay, great. He's a great— hey, are you leaving for the day now?
Yes.
Um, and then I sent you messages on WhatsApp. I need 2 Looms and 1 video recording. Amazing.
Amazing. Okay.
All right. Well, have a great weekend. Thanks for all your help.
Thank you.
And I will see you on Monday then.
Yes. Yep.
See you Monday.
I'll see you on Monday. Take care. Bye.
