3 Brain Facts That Can Increase Your Income

John Assaraf explains how confirmation bias keeps you stuck seeking evidence for what you already believe, how neural patterns can be rewired like muscles, and why affirmations work when you repeat them consistently.

Your income or your wealth? All right, so let me know. Is that a yes I'm seeing? Yes. Give me type in. In the chat, what do you think? One fact is that determines whether your brain will help you achieve the success you want or not. What do you think one thing is. And just so you know, on Tuesdays, I go live on my Instagram and. And on my Facebook as well, and on YouTube. I'm using a new technology right now. Hi, Mahesh. So, three fascinating brain facts that affect your income and your wealth. Number one, do you know what a cognitive biases is or a cognitive bias is? What is a cognitive bias? Any idea what is a cognitive bias? And yes, please let me know. Where are you from? Where are you from? I like to know where people are from. We got people from Peru, from Germany, from Surabaya, Indonesia. What is a cognitive bias? How does. Andrek, do you know where my brain is? Is it down or is it down here? Upstairs? So what's a cognitive bias? Right. What is a cognitive bias? And does it affect your income and your wealth? Probably upstairs. Does it affect your wealth? The amount of income that you earn? So do you know what a confirmation bias is? A confirmation bias? What's a confirmation bias that you and I have? Everybody has biases, but from a perspective of your brain. All right. And how your brain operates. Thank you, Donato. Appreciate. You love my shirt. It's got some nice little things to it. So cognitive bias, right, is a processing part of your brain that confirms what you believe. So a cognitive bias is confirming what you believe. Right? So if, for example, you believe that you can Earn, let's say, $100,000 a year or $100,000 a month, your brain, which is processing how many bits of information per second? Your brain's processing 400 billion bits of information per second. So your brain and my brain is looking to confirm what we already believe. So if you believe that you're capable of achieving X amount of income or X amount of wealth or a certain type of lifestyle, your brain is looking for information, whether it's through books, audios, videos, whether it's in conversations, at parties, yours and my brain looks to confirm what we already believe. Now, what does that mean? If it's looking to confirm what we already believe, then does it delete and distort anything that doesn't line up with that confirmation? See where I'm going with this? So if our brain is confirming what we already believe, is it critical for us to develop the beliefs that will help us achieve our goals? And to let go of the beliefs that do not help us achieve our goals. So what do you think is a belief that holds you back? What is one belief that holds you back? Right. What is one belief that holds you back? Is it possible that a belief that I'm not smart enough will hold you back? What is your brain doing? It's confirming that belief, and it's looking for evidence in the physical world. All right? To support the belief. So a confirmation bias, right. Is part of the processing of your brain to be able to keep you in, as Christine says, in your comfort zone. Right. If you think about how does a thermostat work on a wall? It keeps the temperature in the room in the setting comfort zone. Right. So whenever we are looking at our brain and we're thinking about confirmation biases, here's what I want you to consider. Can you change your beliefs? Number one. Can you change your beliefs? Can you change your beliefs? Please type in an answer for me. The more you respond to me, the easier it is for me to get excited to keep sharing with you. Thank you. The self generator. You're the best, too. So. So. So if you. If you believe, for example, that you're not worthy enough. Andrea, do you know how to. How to take those and put those up so people can see them? You just hit show, hit on the. Hit on each one, and you'll see I'm doing it right now. Right. And then you can delete them. Right. So if you feel like I'm not worthy enough and confirmation biases, confirmation, your brain's looking for a confirmation of that. Does your brain automatically find reasons, ways, excuses, stories to confirm that you're not worthy enough? Right. Do you see where I'm going with this? So if you believe you can achieve the success that you want, okay, then what do you think your brain's going to do? So we have cognitive biases, all right, that are reinforced because our brain deletes and distorts everything that is not okay in alignment with our cognitive biases. So if you have a disempowering belief, whether it's about your knowledge, your skills, your capabilities, if you have a belief that you're not smart enough, not good enough, not worthy enough, not capable. Capable enough, and your brain is looking to confirm that belief, would it make sense to eliminate that belief and create a new one? And Mayo, you said you've changed your beliefs. Of course you want to. By the way, how many of you are joining us this Saturday on the Brain a thon with me and five Other brain experts to show you how to let go of fears, to show you how to change your self image, to show you how to let go of limiting beliefs. What? Who's joining me for the brain a thon this Saturday? We usually will have 100,000 people sign up for it. It's free. We do it for the world. I've got Dr. Sarah Mackay. I've got a list here. Dr. Sarah Mackay is. We talk about how to stop struggling to achieve your financial goals. She's like a neurobiologist. I got Dr. Dennis Waithley talking about the new psychology of winning financially and life. Got Mirka. That's going to help you bust your limiting beliefs, your self image issues and your fears. I've got Dr. Maria Nemeth on how to become financially secure at any age. I've got Dr. Joan Rosenberg on how to manage your mindset and your emotions for financial success and wealth. I'll be doing a session on how to turn on your brain success switch. Who's joining me? My team will put up a link. If you're on Instagram, it's in the bio, up in the bio. You'll see Brainathon. It's live. It's this Saturday. It'll be about six or seven hours of free training. Come for an hour, come for six hours. We'll be going into, you know, some of the stuff that I just talked about right now. Let me go back to my notes. So cognitive biases, we have negativity biases, we have positivity biases, we have confirmation biases. All of these are part of our brain's software, right? Our brain software. Now let me ask you a question. Actually I'm using my phone for Instagram live right now and I'm using my computer for YouTube. Hey, Thomas Bowman, let me ask you a question. Do you upgrade your iPhone software or your computer software or any other software? Do you upgrade it on a. Whether it's daily or weekly? Do you upgrade, you know, all the little programs, right? Well, why not upgrade your brain software, right? If you think about your brain like a computer, okay. If you think about your brain like a computer, you have the hardware, right? The shell, you have the operating system, but then you have the software. If the software is corrupt, it doesn't matter how good the operating system is, it doesn't make a difference how good the hardware is. You have to upgrade the software. So now we think about software like our brains, beliefs, our brain's habits, our cognitive biases that we have, right? So when you upgrade Your brain software, do the results change if the software is upgraded? Is it faster, is it better, is it easier because of the upgrades? Of course it is. Right, so number one that we talked about was your brain cognitive biases. Number two is think of your brain as having neuromuscles. So is it possible, for example, you know, we have physical muscles to, you know, get stronger, whether it's bicep muscles, shoulders, chest, legs, butt. Can we strengthen our muscles through exercise and through, through taking care of ourselves? Of course we can. Well, can we inner size our neuro muscle of, let's say, awareness? Can we expand our awareness so that we see more, so that we feel more, so that we understand more? Is it possible to expand our awareness? Of course it is. Are there techniques you can use to expand your awareness? Of course there are. Is it possible to increase, okay, your ability to focus? Of course there are. Is it possible to decrease your stress and increase your calmness? Of course you can. These are skills that you can learn. And so when we think of our brain not only as this three pound mass of matter, but if you think of your brain as having networks that are connected and circuits that turn on and off, and neuro muscles, network circuits and neuromuscles, you can strengthen your core neuromuscles. You can eliminate beliefs that don't serve you. Why? What are beliefs in the brain? Can anybody tell me? If you think about this, I want you to go a little bit higher in your cortical thinking. Okay, let's use the Einstein part of your brain. Were you born with any beliefs? Were you born with one belief about how good you are, how smart you are, how worthy you are? Born with one habit? Were you born with one idea about anything? No, no and no. So what is a belief? Is a belief not a pattern that was created in the brain is a belief? Not if we have a hundred billion brain cells when we are born, which we do, and then we prune them, right? But if our brain cells. Just think of your brain cells as 100 billion marbles and think about a belief as marbles making connections to each other, right? That's called what? A pattern, A neural pattern. A neural pattern that is reinforced, okay, goes from being a general, simple, easy, weak pattern to a reinforced pattern. Now, if our brain reinforces patterns, whether it's belief patterns, emotional patterns or habitual patterns, and then makes them automatic, is it possible that if a pattern is not serving us, we can deactivate the pattern and we can create a new pattern, a new belief pattern that we reinforce and then the belief pattern then helps us achieve our goals more in line with, with what we want. So here's what I want you to do. Here's a little inner size for you, especially if you're going to be joining me on the Brain a thon, which is free, all right. On Saturday from 9am Pacific, which is the same time we started here today to around 3 o', clock, you're going to learn from me and five other world renowned brain experts on exactly how to do this. But here is what I want you to do. Sorry, I got a little message on my, on my computer. So here's what I want you. I want you to come to the Brainathon with your number one financial goal. It could be a number one financial goal to eliminate, okay, debt or number two, how much you want to earn. And then I want you to write down what belief do you need to have in order to make that a reality? What belief must you have in order to make that a reality? And on Saturday, we'll show you how to take that and impress that into your subconscious mind and how to reinforce it. All right? So by the way, if you just joined on Instagram, the link to the Brain A thon is in the top left corner where my bio is. So go over there and on all the other channels I'm on right now, my team will put some links in for you and Tara Lee. Yes, Neuroplasticity at its finest. Neuroplasticity. One of my friends, Dr. Michael Merzenich, who is a professor emeritus at UCLA up in San Francisco with, was one of the godfathers of neuroplasticity, which shows that we can create, deliberately create new neural patterns on our own and we can reinforce them. So if a belief is nothing more than a reinforced neural pattern in our brain, and we have dominant ones, we have weak ones, we have strong ones, we have weak ones. Why not choose the belief that you need in order to achieve the goal that you want and then reinforce it every day? So author, Mary author. I can't marry. It's a practice. Affirmations. Yes. But one of the things I want to share with you. How many of you have tried affirmations and they don't work? Affirmations just don't work. Anybody hear that? Affirmations don't work. Well, let me ask you a question. Do affirmations work? Do affirmations work? So author says, money loves me and I love money. Right. So do affirmations work? What is an affirmation? Because that was my My third point, okay, for, you know, three fascinating facts about the brain. Neuroplasticity was number two, that we can create new networks, cognitive biases was number one. And number three was around the power of affirmations. So Dimple says, affirmations do not work. Right. Well, what is an affirmation? Like, what's an affirmation? I'm so happy and grateful for the fact that I'm now earning $100,000. Blank. Fill in the blank. Now, is that affirmation not true? Now, for some people, all right, if you say, I'm so happy and grateful for the fact that I'm earning, you know, $100,000 a year, they go, yeah, that's true. Other people go, that's not true. Now, let me ask you a question. Are the things that you believe right now the things that you chose, or the things that your parents, your teachers, your environment, your career, your job, your business caused you to believe? Like what happened first, the affirmation or the experience? Right. So is a belief not. Is a belief not a pattern that's reinforced in the brain? We just said it is. And a pattern that's reinforced in the brain can be a combination of words that make up that pattern, emotions that make up that pattern, habits that make up that pattern, experiences that make up that pattern, all coalesced into a neural network that is associated with and coalesced together. That's a belief, emotional and behavioral pattern. Now, we developed those patterns. Some serve us, some don't. Some empower us, some don't. Some are constructive, some are destructive. Now, if we grew up in an environment, okay, with parents that didn't know they could make a lot of money or didn't invest money well or didn't manage their money well, or money was hard to come by. Do you think when we were in the imprinting years, when we were younger, we absorbed and imprinted those patterns into our psyche and subconscious mind? Do you think that if we took belief and you think if we read it, emotionalized it, listened to it, and behaved in ways that are in alignment with those beliefs over 100 days, 200 days a year, we would create and reinforce a neural pattern that would override our existing patterns? Now, do you know what most people do? They go to the gym one time, two times, three times, they lift some weights, they do a little bit of running, they jump up and down, and after two or three weeks, they have a little bit of results, but then they give up and they stop doing. Says, ah, that's not for me. It's not working well. What happens if you walk every day for one year for 15 minutes? Do you get stronger? Does your cardiovascular system get stronger? Do your muscles get stronger? Do your ligaments get. Your ligaments get stronger? Of course they do. Now, if you stop too early, if you don't do it the right way, you're not going to get the results. So consistency is important. Intensity is not as important first, but it is important afterwards. Okay? Because you've got to mix and match it up. So what gets you from zero to level one is great for zero to level one. But then you've got to go from level one to level two and level three and level four and level five. And you've got to reinforce the patterns to make it better, stronger, faster and easier. So those neurons fire automatically. And now when you have the new belief in the form of an affirmation, then you have a cognitive bias, which is where I started this, that reinforces itself. Of course. That's how your brain works. It's the most powerful, efficient biocomputer in the whole universe. But before we get to intensity and, and duration, we want to create the habit and the consistency. So when you are creating new patterns, you want to reinforce the patterns? Yes, Valinda, does that make sense? So if you want to learn how to use your most powerful bio computer, well, better, more useful. Join me for the Brain a thon this Saturday. As I mentioned, I've got five other world renowned brain experts. It's free. You just need to show up and you need to get involved. Get involved. This stuff is unbelievable. The stuff that you're learning, you can achieve whatever goals you want to achieve and. Chao la 61655. I just said your name. Please share this with other people.
