Design And Live The Life Of Your Dreams

John Assaraf leads a ~30-minute live coaching session (recorded Jan 22, 2019) teaching a practical framework to "design and live the life of your dreams." He stresses starting with clarity (what you want), digging into the emotional "why," identifying empowering beliefs, and creating 30-day action plans so different brain systems (imagination/left prefrontal/emotion/motor cortex) work together. He outlines an eight-area life design matrix (health, wealth, relationships, career, business, fun experiences, charity — presented as core goal categories), emphasizes mindset+skillset+action (MSA), and offers resources (books and free audio via ignitemybrain.com).

Hey there. Good morning from San Diego and welcome to another edition of the Achieve Even more training that I do every Tuesday morning at 9:00 o' clock Pacific, 12:00 New York time. I hope you're doing amazing. And we're going to talk about how to live the life of your dreams. Is it possible? Is it possible to take all of the dreams that you have in your head about your health, your wealth, your relationship, career, business, fun experiences, charity? Is it possible? Is it possible to live the life of your dreams? Let's have a little bit of fun. Hi, Tatiana, you say? Yes, it is, Liz. Good morning. So, is it possible to have it all? My first book, as many of you know, was called Having It All. New York Times best selling book was Having It All. Let me say hello to a few of you. Hi there. Tracy Taylor. Nice to see you again. Mona. Hello, Yiva. Hello, Shelley. Hello there. By the way, tell me where you're from. I'd love to know where you're from. We have people from all over the world that joined us. So I'll say hello to a few of you. We're talking about is it possible, you know, to live the life of your dreams? Hi, Manny and Lady T ara from Orlando, Shahira. Hello there. Olaf. Hello. Andrea Samadhi. Hello, Tiki. Hey there, Ron. How you doing? Mr. Murphy. Shelley. So again we're talking about is it possible to, you know, have it all, live the life of your dreams? Is it some kind of a myth, you know, a bunch of bullshit, or is it possible? And is it possible to live the life of your dreams, you know, at the same time, versus a little bit of this or a little bit of that. But let's start with that premise. And the reason I ask is this. Beliefs are really powerful, right? Beliefs are the lens by which our brain sees the world. Beliefs are also the way we behave, right? Causes our behavior. So let's start off with is it possible? Concetta from Italy. I love Italy. Thank you, Shelley. I'm glad you've listened to me for years. And so many years ago, you know, I wrote my first book, Having It All. My second book was the answer for business owners. My third book was the Vision Board Kid. My fourth book, also a best seller, now just came out called Inner Size. Many of you already have this. I've been focusing my last 38 years on having It All. I don't want to compromise my life, and I don't think you should compromise your life either. And I believe that when you start off with the right framework that you want to have it all and then you believe that it's possible to have it all, then the question is how? Right? And so if you believe it's possible to have it all and it's possible to live the life of your dreams, hit the like or the love button one or two times just so I can see a flurry of yeah, John, I believe that I'm going to show you some stuff that I think will help you. Everything I do is based on what's the latest research on the brain and how to get all the different parts of the brain working in concert or coherence. I'm seeing a lot of likes and love on here. So you do believe that you can have it all, which is great because I learned many years ago. Many of you may remember one of my favorite stories around my first mentor, Mr. Allen Brown. And Alan Brown was in great physical, mental, emotional and spiritual shape. He was happily married to his wife Lori for many, many years. They had children. He was a philanthropist. He made millions of dollars, so in health, wealth, relationships, career, business and charity. He was a pillar of possibility. And when I was 19, I had no idea. I didn't know anybody that had it all. My mother and father, you know, work day jobs. My father was a taxi driver. My mother was working as a seamstress in one of the local department stores. There was always too much month left at the end of the money. They were unhealthy. They, you know, they didn't travel, they didn't take their kids traveling, they rented most of their lives until they were able to buy their first home for $25,000, which was great, but they didn't have it all. They were miserable and they complained a lot about, you know, how other people had it all. And so I didn't believe when I was young that it was possible to have it all. It was possible to have a dream life. And when I met this man, one man, it was the first person I ever met other than, you know, what I saw on television, which is, you know, skewed for the most part. You see parts of people's lives even today on today's reality shows, there was nobody that we knew that that had it all, that lived the life of their dreams. And then Mr. Brown shared with me, you know, the first philosophy in order to have the life of your dreams was what does it even look like? Like, what does having the life of your dreams look like? And you may remember, he had me write out my goals for health, wealth, relationship, career, business, Fun experiences and charity. Those eight areas, like what are your go? And I really didn't have any at the time. And by the way, for any of you that want this, I have something from my Having it all book. You don't have to buy this. I'll ask my team. My team put this together for you. I'm going to be walking you through this right now. If you want a copy of it, it's pretty great. Little five, six pages. There'll be a link below here. But I'm going to walk you through the life design matrix that I have in my book. Having it alt. And so what he asked me to do, and I'll go through this in just a second, what he asked me to do was to set some goals. And one of the first things I said to him, I was 19 at the time. I said, Mr. Brown, but I don't know how to achieve any of those goals. And, and I said, you know, I didn't do well in school. I did. I flunked English. I was, I left at grade 11. He says, well, number one, he says, the past doesn't equal the future. And he says, and maybe you were just bored, you know, in school and, and you weren't interested in what, what you were doing. And. And I said, well, yeah, I was bored. The only things I liked was biology and chemistry. And those are the two classes I did well in other than gym, in the workout rooms and in the playing basketball. But he had me sit down, actually gave me these sheets, sent me home. Came back after a lunch we had. I'm making the story shorter to make a point for you. He sent me home. I came back and I wrote down, I want to retire at age 45 with $3 million in the bank. I was 19, right? So I set goals. He wanted me to set goals for 25 years. So I just said, you know, by time, I'm 45, I want to have my own home. I want to have a Mercedes Benz. I want to travel the world, you know, first class. I want to wear nice clothes. I want to give somebody to charity. I want to retire my parents so that they can be comfortable. I wrote down all of this stuff, all of it, just, all of it was just out of my imagination. I had no idea how to achieve any of it. And he said something to me that I'm going to share with you. He says the how. Pay close attention, okay? I want to bring the camera closer. The how always comes after the what. And please don't correct me because many of you have it a different way. The how. How to achieve any goal always comes after what you want to achieve. He says you have to start by giving your brain the clarity so that it knows what you want to focus on. And the reason for setting the goals is, he says, to be able to eliminate all the things that you don't want your brain to focus on. I'm like, okay, I mean, I can understand that you focus on what you want, not what you don't want. And then he asked me another question that I had no idea. He asked me a question. It's right over here. Become clear about the purpose of your life. Become clear. I already shared with you. Decide. Decide what you want in each area of your life. And as I mentioned, health, wealth, relationships, career, business, fun experiences, and charity. Those are the eight categories, and everything in your life will fit under those. So he said, you know, what's the purpose of your life? And I was 19. I said, I have no idea. He goes, well, I want you to start thinking about that. I want you to start thinking about the purpose of your life. And it took me some time, you know, to figure out what the purpose of my life was, but it was a question in the back of my mind. But then he said to me, why do you want to achieve your health goals, your relationship goals, your business or career financial goals? Why do you want to achieve that? Now, I didn't know the importance of why back then, but let me share something with you. When you write down what you want to achieve in the areas of your life, you're actually activating this part of the brain called the left prefrontal cortex. It's the oops, the other way. That's. There we go. It's what I call as the Einstein part of the brain. I talk a lot about that in my book Inner Size, which you can get on Amazon for 10 bucks. But when you use your imagination and something called deductive reasoning, deductive reasoning is taking a look at all the possibilities and saying, I want that and that and that and that and that. So you deduce from all the possibilities what it is that you actually want. So when you activate the Einstein part of your brain and you write down, why do I really want to achieve that? Like, why. As soon as you get into the why, you're actually activating the emotional center of your brain. So it's not enough to just write down the goal. The reason for the why is this. If your why is big enough, what you are going to need to do is going to be easier. Now don't confuse easy with easier because achieving goals takes effort. It takes busting your ass. A raft. Would you agree with that? Hit the like or the love button if you agree. It's like it's not easy to achieve health and wealth and relationship career and business and finance and fun and experiences and travel. And it's not easy. If you want to live, you know, an extraordinary life, you want to live an ordinary life. It's not hard. If you want to live an extraordinary life, there's a lot of pieces that have to come together. So when you write down why you want to achieve that and you go as deep as you can. I want to achieve that because I want to make my children proud. Why? Why is that important to them? Why is that important to you? Well, it's important because they will see what I do and how I overcome my challeng. And then they're going to learn a lesson or a few lessons. And then you go, well, why is that important? Well, because then I'll be giving them the tools that they need in order to overcome life's challenges. And when I do that, then I feel like I'm accomplishing my role as their parent. Ah, so the real why is so that you feel you're accomplishing your goal as a parent. It's not to help them. It's for you to feel you've accomplished your goal as a parent. Okay. But when you have that reason why, the real motive for action, then you're willing to overcome the bigger, you know, issues, challenges, problems and effort that it takes. And very few people go deep into the why. They have the what, but they don't go into the why. And again, so that's over here. If you want this life design matrix, there's also something that I call is a true north. And a true north. You'll see it says, need help getting by? Just. Okay, very pleased. Excellent. True north is from 0 to 10. And what I teach all of my students to do is, let's understand, where are you really in the different areas of your life. So this one is for business or career. This one is for your income. This evaluation is for spiritual health, physical relationships, contribution or charity. And then over here, this is the workbook that you can get around the goal achieving process. And again, my team just put a link there for you. You can have it for free. And I'll go through this in just a second. So once you have your why and then you've got to go to where I started just a Little bit ago. And that is, what do you need to believe? We started before with an overarching belief, right, about how powerful beliefs are. They're the lens by which you see the world. But beliefs are also what drive your behavior. A combination of your belief and your emotional management is what drives your behavior. So you have to ask yourself, here's my goal. Here's why I want to achieve it. Okay, that's pretty simple, right? The next question is, what do I need to believe about myself or about the world or the universe in order to make that possible? And so the question is, why is that so important? And the answer is, you have to understand what beliefs are in the brain. So none of us were born with any beliefs. We weren't born with any beliefs about what's possible. We weren't born with any beliefs about whether we can or we can't, whether we're good enough, smart enough, worthy enough, deserving enough, whether we're too young or too old, too Asian or too Caucasian. We weren't born with any beliefs. But from a strictly neuroscience perspective, once we develop a belief, a good one, a bad one, a positive one, a negative one, a constructive one, a destructive one, an inspiring one, an expiring one, it doesn't matter. Whatever the belief is, is what drives behavior and emotions. Behavior and emotions are driven by, you know, by beliefs which are part of our subconscious programming. And so we have two types of beliefs. We have something known as declarative beliefs, which is we. We can declare, I believe I can do this, I believe that is possible. I believe fill in the blank. But then if we have another belief that says, but I believe that I don't have the knowledge, I believe that I don't have the skills, I believe that I'm too young, I believe that I'm too old. Whenever we have these polar opposite beliefs, declarative and non declarative, guess what will happen? In our brain, we have opposing beliefs, which means we're going to procrastinate and put our foot on the brake and not take action most of the time. Or we'll take action, then we'll stop. We'll take action, then we'll stop. So from a brain perspective, what you want to do is you want to get the different parts of the brain working together and so on. Page, let me see, what page. Is this helping you, by the way? If it's helping, it's hard for me to teach and read all of your comments, but let me know if it's helping you. All right? So once you have your goals. Then the question here is what beliefs or self declarations do you need to have in order to go from a disempowering or destructive belief to an empowering one. And so once you have that, so you have the. You use the imagination, the Einstein part of the brain, to set the goals. You tap into the emotional brain by getting into the why it's really important for you to achieve goals. You move to the logical brain and then you get yourself to come up with the beliefs required to achieve the goals. And then here's something that very few people don't understand. 30 day action items. 30 day action items. As soon as you say, okay, here's a goal that I have. I want to lose 5 pounds. And you say, why? Maybe, let's say 25 pounds. And you say, well, why is it important for me to lose £25? Well, because I want more energy. I want to be healthier, I want to set a greater example for my children. I want to have more fun, I want to look better, I want to feel better. You come with all the reasons why and why that's important. I want to be sexier for my spouse. Whatever the case is, I want to look good naked in front of a mirror. That's a good one too. And then you go, okay, what can I do? What are the action steps I can take to achieve that goal? And so you might say, well, I could start eating better and maybe I'll go on a, you know, on a certain eating plan. I don't like diets because usually most people go on a diet, lose the weight or the fat that they want off and then they get off the diet. So you choose a proper eating plan. I'm going to choose a proper eating plan. I'm going to manage my caloric intake so that I am eating less than I'm expending like a bank account. If you put a dollar in, if you take $1.20 out, you're in overdraft. If you put a dollar in and you only take out 50 cents, you still have 50 cents. Well, food and weight is like that. So what I want to do, I'm just showing some of the action items and what that does in the brain. So I'm going to get a food plan, I'm going to manage my calories, I'm going to do a little bit of exercise and I'm going to hire a trainer three days a week. So as soon as I start putting an action plan together and then putting it into my calendar My piece of paper on my calendar to take action. Now, here's the key. I've just activated the motor cortex of my brain because as soon as I create the plan of action items, I activate another part of my brain called the motor cortex of the brain. So now I have the left prefrontal cortex, the decision maker. I've got the emotional side of the brain activated, I've got the logical beliefs that I need to acquire and then I've got the motor cortex part of the brain activated to work together. Now, most people don't do those four items. There's a few other little pieces. But the reason I created this little document for you, actually, I didn't create it. My team took it, you know, from my book, having it all. But if you just fill these out, alright, for 30 days, 60 days, 90 days, you're going to give yourself the best chance of goal achievement instead of goal setting or having. Now, how does this relate to where I started, which was, can you live the life of your dreams? Is it possible? And the answer is, of course it's possible. But you have to have the vision of what your life looks like, what the goals are, the beliefs, the habits, the plans and the behaviors. And so when you line it up and you focus on mindset plus skill set plus action, set those three together and you start to, you know, coordinate the conscious desire, right? Desire is desire of the father, whatever that means to you. When you start to focus on a process of mindset skill set actions, I call it msa. Now, you're going to give yourself the best chance to succeed. I'm going to give you a couple of little bonus tips, but only, only if you give me a little feedback as to whether that makes sense for you. I've got about five more minutes. Does this make sense to you? Again, if you want this, just download it through the link to my team. Does this make sense to you so far? I'm going to give you a couple of other key elements here. It makes sense. You give me the like or love and say, yeah, John, this makes sense. All right, Mindset skill set action said yes. Christina. Awesome, awesome, awesome. All right, so here's a couple other things that if you really want to be serious about achieving goals, you've got to ask yourself a question. And that is, what knowledge do I need in order to achieve that goal or that goal or that goal? What skill do I need to upgrade or to get help through somebody else? What knowledge, what skill do I need or what skill do I need help with you know, from somebody else. Here's what I wanted to really, really say. Obstacles, obstacles. Everybody thinks that it's not good to have obstacles. And obviously, the fewer obstacles you have, you know, the better. Right? But we all have obstacles, and they're either going to be mindset obstacles, you know, habit, the wrong habits. We might have beliefs that need, you know, leveling up. We might have habits we need to level up. But one of the things I teach all of my students in Neurogym is let's make a list of all the obstacles. And I want to. I want to ask you a question, and I'll give you the answer. It's 2019 today, and it's, you know, the, you know, almost the end of January 2019. There's been about 110 billion people who've walked on this earth since the beginning of time, since we've walked on earth. And so in the arena of health, wealth, relationships, career, business, money, earning money, managing it, investing it, protecting dieting, food, exercise, relationships. Would you agree that we're at the best time in the history of our species to easily, whether it's through the Internet, a book, a course, whatever it is, find out how can I overcome this obstacle? So would you agree that no matter what your obstacle is, today is the best time in the history of our species to know how to overcome the obstacle? Whether it's a mindset obstacle, an emotional obstacle, a financial obstacle, whatever it is, we're in the best time ever to be able to Google, ask a friend, go online on YouTube and learn how, discover how to overcome that obstacle. And so when you take a proactive approach to saying, okay, here are the obstacles that I know are in my way, and then you become resourceful and say, let me find out how to overcome that obstacle. What book can I read? What friend can I ask for help? What video can I watch? What course can I take? Somebody has the answer, right? Of course the answer is somebody has the answer. And so the least of your worries should be your obstacles. The least of your worries should be what's the plan to achieve the goal. So that's the least of your worries, right? But you have to start with, you know, what it is that you want, and use your brain to activate the different parts of your brain for those of you that want, you know, the free life design matrix.
