Hey friends, it's Jon Assraff, New York Times best selling author of Having it all and the Answer. You may have seen me in the hit movie the Secret or the Quest for Success with the Dalai Lama and Richard Branson. Now here's a question for you today. Have you ever started a plan to lose weight or to grow your business, or to make more money or to get out of a relationship that you don't want to be in, only to find that you lack the motivation or the discipline to keep achieving it? In addition, have you ever sabotaged your success and ended up worse off than you were before? If that sounds true or rings true to you, in this video I'm going to share with you one of the critical factors for starting, achieving and maintaining the results you want so you can have an amazing life. Let me share a little story with you. Several years ago, I wanted to get into really great shape before my 50th birthday. And I started and stopped getting on a diet, eating sugar, not eating sugar, eating certain foods, not eating certain foods. And I kept losing the weight and gaining the weight and losing the weight and gaining the weight. And then I was on vacation with my two sons, Keenan and Noah, and we were having the most amazing day on the ski hill. And one of my sons, Noah, was with me on the chairlift and he looked over to me, says, dad, I really love our trips together. I'm so looking forward to teaching my children how to ski or snowboard like you taught me and Keenan to do. And at that moment, my eyes just welled up with tears and I was filled with this emotion of love. And I looked over to him and I said to myself, I said, you know What? You're only 15 right now. However, I'm going to make a commitment to you that I'm going to teach your children how to either board or ski so that not only you can have the joy of doing it, but I'm going to get the joy of doing it with you and them. And the reason I share this story with you is because that moment that I made the commitment to my son that I was going to teach his children how to ski or snowboard, I had something called my big why. And from that moment on, I hired myself a personal trainer, I hired a nutritionist, I built a gym here in my home so that I could fulfill my commitment to my son that I made. Now put this into perspective. My son was 15 at the time and now he's almost 18. And because of the commitment, my big why the commitment to him. I've released 30 pounds. I've gotten myself into the best shape of my adult life. And you know what else I've done? I've shown my son the power of commitment, the power of having a Big why. So here is my question for you and my suggestion for you. Do you have a big enough why? For each of your goals, whether they're health goals, financial goals, business goals, or any other goals that you have. Because if you don't have a big enough why, you'll come up with excuses, you'll come up with stories, you'll come up with all of the reasons why you shouldn't do what you need to do. However, if you have a big enough why, you'll come up with action steps. You'll do what you need to do and you'll be consistent day in and day out, and you'll stop sabotaging your success. And and what that will do for you is it will help you achieve more of the goals that you have. It will help you start and finish everything that you set out to do, and it will give you the confidence and certainty to be able to achieve all of your life's goals and dreams. And that will give you the amazing feeling of having purpose and meaning and significance in your life. So I hope you've enjoyed this little story about the big why.
