How Are You Going To Achieve Your Goals? - Strategies, Tactics & Timelines

John Assaraf breaks down how to move from setting goals to achieving them. Be specific about what you want, break it into short-term actionable steps, pick one strategy per goal, set near-term timelines, identify one obstacle and plan around it, and take consistent daily action.

Hey, this John again. And welcome back. In the last two videos I shared with you, two key components of achieving goals. Obviously one is be very specific on what you want to achieve. The second video I shared with you was all about a higher purpose and a higher vision for your life and why it's important for you to achieve it. I also, in the last couple of videos, shared with you the exceptional life blueprint that I'd love you to just download and make sure that you follow this as something that you will be using to consistently prime your brain for success, which I'll talk to you about a little bit later on. And so those are two key things, what you want to achieve, getting clear and, and why is it important for you to achieve it. Now the other part of achieving goals is around how specifically are you going to achieve a goal. And there's an old saying that says a goal without a plan is just a dream. And most people set goals, but they don't create a plan on how they're going to get there. And so what I would like you to think about is this. If you were going to on a trip, let's say you got $10,000 as a windfall and you're going to go on a trip, what would you decide to do on that trip? Well, you'd probably first decide where you want to go. So that would be the what. You'd probably have all the reasons why you wanted to go that specific location. But wouldn't you also start to find out about what you could do there and what you could do? There are the options for creating the fun, amazing experience that you would want. And for every goal that you have, you have to come up with strategies of how can you achieve that goal. And with the strategies, you come up with timelines and strategies, basically what is it that you can do to achieve that goal? So, for example, if you want to lose 10 pounds, that's the goal. What you can do is exercise four days a week and eat a super healthy diet. And if you set goals with what specifically you can do within a timeline, what happens from a neurological perspective is you're giving your brain a path to follow that is based on something that I call fractional goal achievement. Fractional goal achievement. And if you take any big goal or smaller goal and you break it down into smaller chunks for the day, the week, the month, what you're doing to help your brain not get overwhelmed is showing it a path that it can follow. And when you give your brain a timeline of what you want to do by a certain time, it actually will help you prioritize things in a way that will not cause it to be overwhelmed. What happens to most people when they set goals? When they have goals in health, wealth, relationships, career, business, finance, fun experiences, and I can go on, they get overwhelmed. But when you set a goal with three or four things that you're going to do to achieve that goal and keep it short term, not something you're going to do in 90 days, keep it short term to what you do this week, next week, or the week week after, your brain says, okay, I can do that. And I always suggest that if this is new to you, if you're a beginner, okay, there are two things that I want you to do. Number one is remember that the habit of setting a goal and creating a plan for achieving it is more important than its complexity. Keep it really, really simple. So set a goal and come up with three things that you can by a certain date that you know you can achieve. Why? Because when you start to take action and you see progress, you get excited. When you create too many things on your list, your brain goes into this state of overwhelm and says, shut down. I'm not going to do any work. So if you're just starting out with goal achieving, keep it really simple and develop the habit of the goal. Three things towards it. Do it. Check it off your list and you'll be releasing dopamine in your brain, which will make you feel good. And the other thing I want you to do is just have some patience. Don't be unrealistic in your expectations if you're a beginner, if you're an intermediate or advanced goal setter and goal achiever, you can get more complex. Let me share with you a little story about what I mean and how I use this to my advantage. Many years ago when I was 19 years old, okay, I'm 54, 55 right now, on my way to 55. And so I was taught that if I wanted to, for example, make $50,000 in a year, I had to call 100 people a day. And I was in real estate back then, and I had to do one hour of knocking on doors in the neighborhood of where my real estate office was. So my goal was $50,000 for the year. But my, my mentor broke it down into calling 100 people a day and doing one hour of door knocking. Well, I can tell you I did not achieve my goal. The first year I made $35,000. Not bad for a kid that was 19 years old back in 1982. However, as I got better at cold calling and as I got better at door knocking, made $151,000 or $52,000 on year two. Why? Because I became more comfortable, I got more confidence, I got more certainty, and I did just the things that he asked me to do. A few simple things repeated over and over and over again yield great results. So you have your goal, you have two or three things you can do, you have a timeline of when you're going to do them in, and you take action daily. Now what I'd like you to do is on a blank sheet of paper, okay? Or in your exceptional life blueprint. Alright? Take one goal that you have and I want you to write down only one strategy, not 10 strategies. So one goal, one thing that you can do and will do, okay. To achieve it. And then I'd like you to write down when you're going to take action by. See, when you become an action taker, you will achieve every goal and dream that you have. When you become the type of person who just sets goals but doesn't take actions, you actually train yourself to repeat that same pattern. So you're better off writing a goal and having one action and taking it and developing that pattern of taking action. And then you will achieve your goals. There's one other little trick that I want to share with you, and again, this is all based in neuroscience. When you have a goal that you maybe know how to achieve or don't know how to achieve, especially one that you don't know how to achieve, what I want you to do is identify one obstacle that might get in your way. So you have a goal, you have a strategy, you have when you're going to do it by, and then you come up with one obstacle that might get in your way. So you might say, well, I may be lazy, I don't have the skill to do it, I don't have the money to do it, I don't have the knowledge, I don't have the time. So that's the obstacle. Well, here's something that neuroscience is showing us. When you have the goal, you have the plan, you have the timeline, and you can actually look at one obstacle and you can see yourself sidestepping that obstacle. It's called the sidestep process. You see the goal in front of you, you acknowledge it, and, and then you see yourself overcoming that obstacle because you've done it in your mind first, your brain now knows that you can overcome it and that will stop any of what the fear side of your brain or the procrastination side of your brain or the lazy part of your brain from showing its ugly head and causing you to stop doing your goals. So now you have your goal, you have a bit of a plan. You've got a way to overcome an obstacle. And what I'm going to do in the next video is I'm going to show you an end to end process on how to make 100% certain that you actually follow through to completion and achieve not just one or two or three goals but all of your goals for health, wealth, relationships, career, business, finance over the next six to 12 months. Now I'm not talking about becoming a millionaire if you don't have any money right now, but realistic goals, okay? I can help you achieve in a short period of time. Amazing goals will take us just a little bit longer. And so one of the things that I want you to do is commit to yourself to set goals and follow the plan. All right? And then create your little action plan. All right? I'll show you the latest brain based ways to get every fiber of your being to believe and act daily in ways that will shatter any result you have ever achieved. You do the work, I'll do the coaching and guidance and I'll show you the secret ingredients that will have you every day, every week and every month follow through to completion so you achieve your biggest goals and dreams. All right? Now here's one last thing for you. I got a lot of last things. Many years ago I was asked by my mentor, are you interested in achieving your goals or committed? And here's what I'd like you to do if you're interested. You're going to do what's convenient and you won't achieve your goals if you're committed. You will do what it takes and you'll learn what you need to learn. You'll invest in yourself and you'll write out what you need to do and you'll take action and you'll learn how to overcome any of the obstacles that will come in your way. So if you are committed, type down below that you are committed to achieving your goals in the next six to 12 months. And then hit the share button and let's help more people together. I hope this has been useful for you. I look forward to sharing with you more amazing stuff in the next video.
