Hey there. Great morning to you. Welcome to my Tuesday morning edition of Achieve Even More. I do a live session here every Tuesday morning, 9:00am Pacific, 12:00 New York. And today we are going to talk about why reaching your goals has been so hard. Here is my first question for you. Hi there, Peter Kim. First question for you. What is one goal that you have not yet achieved in 2019 that you thought you would have achieved? What is one goal that you have not yet achieved? Let me just move my camera in a little bit. All right. Hi, Chris Henry. All right, so what's one goal? 2019. You've got goals, I'm sure. What's one goal that you have not yet achieved? If you can hear me and see me, hit the like or the love button. Hi, Kumiko. How are you, my dear friend? Hi, Sepika. Mercedes. Hello. Good morning. So we're talking about goals. Why are goals so hard to achieve? So easy to set right? It's so easy to write down. I want to achieve this and I want to achieve that. But why is it so hard? So hard to achieve. And we're obviously going to be talking about what's going on in that beautiful brain of yours. Right? I'm going to be covering Chapter 11 from my new best selling book, Inner the New Science to Unlock youk Brain's Hidden Power. I'm going to be going through chapter 11 with you. I have the big version here. I've got the little version that people buy on Amazon. I got the big version for. For my almost 60 year old eyes. And so let me go to chapter number 11. Chapter 10 is all about mindset. Chapter 11 is all about your brain on goals. Let me get that. I had it all marked out. 10 mindset. All right, here we go. All right, so how many of you agree? All right, so here's the chapter we're going to be covering right there. Your brain on goals. Goals. Easy to achieve. Hard to or easy to set? Harder to achieve. How come? Let me know what are your thoughts? How come? It's hard to achieve goals? Let me see who's joining us. Wendy Pickett. Hello, Sharon. Hello, Anna. Hello, Dorothea. Hello, Branko. Hey, Branca. How are you? Dear Branka, big hugs. Big to you and the family. Debbie. Good morning. Arun. Shalom. Astrid. Starting of course. Hey there. Shaf Garcia. Kathy. Hello. Hello, Hello. All right. So great. Awesome. Welcome, welcome. If you can hear me and see me, just hit the like and love it. So why is it so hard to achieve goals? And if you've just joined Me, let me know, what's one goal that you haven't yet achieved that you want to achieve this year, and I'll give you a bunch of tools to use today. So here's the problem with most goals. There are different regions of our brains that are responsible for setting goals and for achieving goals. And most people don't understand that setting goals happens in this part of the brain. It's the left prefrontal cortex. If you want to know what the name is, it's what I call in my book is the Einstein part of the brain. It's the part of the brain that has been developed for imagination so you can dream and think and have these awesome desires. It's a part of the brain that's responsible for deductive reasoning, which means simply your ability to choose. I want this, not that. This would be great to have. This I don't want to have. Your will is right there as well. Your will. Do you have a strong will? Your tenacity, your resolve? It's almost like what I. What I call in the book is a neuromuscle, right? How good or how strong is your will? Neuromuscle. So when we set goals here, we're activating one part of the brain. I want you to think about your brain slightly differently for just a moment, okay? Think of your brain. First and foremost, your brain, not the plastic thing I have in my hand. Your brain's an organism, not an organ. Let me repeat. Your brain is an organism, growing, evolving, developing. Not an organ, but your heart is an organ, your lungs, organs, liver organs, etc. Brain organism evolving, growing, changing, consistently. Why is that important? Well, it's important when you understand the science of neuroplasticity, which is because what we do here at Neurogym, we help people use the science of neuroplasticity and neuropsychology to alter their brain so that their perspectives, attitudes, behaviors, habits, etc. Change so they achieve more of their goals. So if you think of your brain as you have a brain, you're not your brain. Somebody type that in for me. Say, I have a brain, I'm not my brain. Can you somebody type that in for me? So I want to make sure that we get that, okay, you have a brain, you're not a brain. So you can use your brain. You can learn how to use your brain better. Just like you can say, move hand, and you go like this, or turn face left, and you do this and turn face right, and you do this. You're giving direction to Your brain to move the facial and neck muscles that you want so you can command your brain better. All right? And my team, by the way, just put up a link for anybody who wants to pick up my book. I'm going to share with you. There's a bunch of bonuses we're giving away today with the book. But let me come back to this. So we have a brain. You have to learn how to use it. If you think about your brain, the different parts of your brain that are evolving, you have this part called the left prefrontal cortex. What if you thought of your brain, the left prefrontal cortex, that's like your own, Einstein, and that's a band member, an orchestra member, in your band, right? At your job is to get the different parts of your brain, the occipital lobe, the limbic system, the part of your brain that chooses your goals. The other part of your brain, that's the inner critic that this is, the Frankenstein part of the brain I call in my book, that always doubts that you can achieve your goals. It always tells you you're not good enough, not smart enough, not worthy. Last time you tried, you failed. You were embarrassed, you were ashamed, you were ridiculed, you made promises you didn't keep. So there's two band members here, Einstein and Frankenstein, that are consistently battling for what you can achieve and what you can't. But I want you to remember something. You know, just as I said before, these are your band members. They belong to you. What you need to learn is how to get something that we use the term in music many of you know is harmony. Coherence. Harmony. When members of a band are in harmony, it sounds beautiful, right? It flows. There's no. It's effort less. It's frictionless. Not frictionless, frictionless. But when the pieces work together, right, in your brain, then things flow a lot easier. And so does this make sense so far? Right? Does this make sense so far? Because what I want to show you is how to actually achieve, you know, let's pick one goal that you have for the next, you know, six months of this year. But when you get the band working together in harmony, in coherence, that's when you are in flow. And that's. That's the whole idea here. So, Einstein, right, the left prefrontal cortex of your brain, this is your part of your brain where you sit, right? You stop. Okay? The key to achieving goals is first you stop, stop, stop, stop. Doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing. Because most of what you're doing is based on your habitual way of doing things. And if you keep doing things in your habitual way of doing things, you're going to achieve the habitual things you're used to achieving. Okay? So first thing is, stop, stop, stop, stop, stop. Get a piece of paper out, get your computer out and sit quietly. And I want you to imagine, I want you to use left prefrontal cortex, Einstein to imagine. What did Albert Einstein do? He imagined scenarios. What if this, what if that, what about this, what about that? What if this happened? What's happening here? He used his imagination first to imagine scenarios. So what I want you to do is I want you to use, not this side of your brain, that side of your brain, left prefrontal cortex to imagine you achieving a goal, right? So that's part one is imagination. Forget about tenacity, forget about resolve, forget about how to at this point, right? So imagine and use your imagination and your thinking, your deductive reasoning part of your brain to choose the goal that you want. Part one, part number two. Okay? And by the way, that's in here as well. It starts with left prefrontal cortex, right? So left prefrontal cortex is this part of your brain. But now you have to get this motor cortex part of your brain activated. And so how do you switch from the motor cortex of your or from the deductive reasoning, imagination part of your brain to the motor cortex part of your brain? So, right, these band members, they have to work together. Setting a goal has nothing to do with achieving a goal if you don't get the motor cortex. So imagine you're sitting in the car. You set a goal to drive across town, okay? And you put it in the gps, but you don't turn the car on to get the engine going, and you don't put it into drive. You have to get the GPS working with the motor. And so how do you activate the motor cortex of your brain? Right? It's another different part of your brain. From a scientific perspective, from a brain science perspective, understanding some of the key things you need to do is going to be absolutely critical. So the first thing you need to ask yourself is, why must I achieve this goal? So you move from the left prefrontal cortex, and then you activate the thinking part of your brain. But then you want to activate the motivational center and the, the motor cortex. And that comes by activating another part of your brain. It's called the limbic system and the emotional center of your brain. And when you sit quietly and ask yourself, why must I achieve this goal, not why would I like to. Why would it be nice? Why must you? Right? So if you don't give yourself a motive for action. Motivation just means motive for action. If you don't write down and feel right. Feeling is different than thinking, right? So what we want to do is we want to activate the head, the heart, and the gut as well. The intuitive part of us. I'll come back to that in just a moment. But when we start using the different parts of our brain together, it's like getting the band working together. When you write down why I must achieve this goal. Now, you activate the emotional center of the brain. And let me ask you a question. What drives you more? Logic or emotion? Logic. I want this, right? What drives you more, logic or emotion? What do you find yourself doing more of? More, you know, more of the stuff that you're emotional about, that you're emotionally charged about or logically charged about. It's emotion, right? Emotion is energy in motion. It's really what drives a lot of our behavior. And so when you activate left prefrontal cortex with the motivational center of your brain, that's driven by your emotions, why you must achieve your goal. Write it down, right? And then you've got the fuel. Emotion is fuel, right? Emotion is fuel. All right? And there's a couple other little things that I've got marked down here on my. On my document that I want to share with you. But emotion is fuel for motion, right? So when you activate the emotional side of your brain as well, here's what happens. Okay? I'm gonna. Can you read this? See this? Motivation, dopamine and nucleus accumbens. When you activate the emotion, there's a place in the brain called the nucleus accumbens and the insula. It is the part of the reward center in the brain that when you set this goal and you have emotion of why you must achieve it, you are by default already thinking about achieving it, which activates another part of the brain, the occipital lobe, one of the biggest parts of your brain. So setting the goal sets up the vision of what you want, activating the emotional centers of your brain, of why you must achieve it. Okay. Activates the nucleus accumbens. Think of circuits just firing off in sequence to create motivation, to create activation of the dopamine system in the brain, the nucleus accumbens, the reward center of the brain, which then does what? It's the spark that is required to activate the motor cortex to get off your asciraf and do what you need to do. And so what most people I find do is yeah, they have goals, but they don't have reasons why they must. They don't have a process of getting emotionally connected to that goal to spark, you know, that behavior. And then they're missing another really key component to it. Another. This is, this is critical. And by the way, I want to share something with you. For those of you that are watching my new book bestseller, Inner Size, I made a note on a couple of free gifts. For those of you who have it, leave me a comment. But there's a bunch of bonuses I'm giving away to help as many people as I can. So number one bonus, when you buy the book with the link that we just sent you, you can see it's got 92% five star reviews on Amazon. The link that we provide, you'll see all the comments from world renowned experts as well as the thousands of people that have bought the book. But I also created some brain training audios to help you get focused, reduce your stress, eliminate any of the unwanted thoughts or emotions that are holding you back. And the eight free brain training audios are normally sell for $197. You get those for free when you order the book. I also am including a program that all of my clients in my very high end programs get. It's called how to get More Done in Less Time. It's a, a time management program so you can get three to five times more productive. That's also worth $197. And then I created something called the Exceptional Life Blueprint. And that is my blueprint of exactly how I set all of my goals for health, wealth, relationships, career, business, fun experiences, etc. And I created a video and a manual for you to create your own exceptional life if you want. And that's $47. So the values, you know, three, $400. You can pick up the book and get all those bonuses for free today when you get inner size. So that's just a shameless plug for those of you who want to pick up the book right now. So left prefrontal cortex, you activate this part of your brain. Reasons why you absolutely must to activate the emotional part of your brain. Activates the nucleus accumbens and the insula to release dopamine, the feel good chemical. And then there's one other part, one other part. And I want to go to page number actually, there's actually two or three other parts and that's this. There's one part over here. This is your identity, the parietal lobe. So the parietal lobe in the brain is your sense of self, right? And here is something that is really important to understand. Let's say you have a goal that you want to achieve, but you have a lot of self doubt or uncertainty, you haven't done it yet, or you've tried and you failed. Your sense of self is gonna have some trepidation associated with it. It's like, can I do this? Can I do this? Do I deserve this? Don't I deserve? Am I smart enough? Am I good enough? And so what you have to do is you have to take that goal, that's a conscious goal, and you have to impress the image, the vision of you achieving that goal into your subconscious mind. Why? Because the parietal lobe is part of your subconscious sense of self. And you've developed your sense of self over the last 30, 40, 50, 60, 70 years, depending on how young you are. And so when you take that image of achieving that goal, and for one or two minutes a day, just one or two minutes a day, close your eyes and I want you to imagine see yourself achieving that goal, overcoming whatever hurdles have ever been in your way or are in your way right now, and see yourself achieving the goal. Use your visualization muscle, your occipital lobe, okay, is one of the biggest regions of your brain that use all day long to see things. So when you use this just little technique of visualization, just see yourself and feel yourself achieving that goal, you start to override the existing self image and identity that's there. One to two minutes a day is all you need to see yourself doing that. Now here is another, just a little bit another piece of the puzzle. By the way, if you're enjoying this, hit the share button. Greatly help my work to help as many people achieve their goals faster than easier than ever before. You may ask yourself, you know, why am I so scientific about this? We know so much more about our brains than ever before. We know more about what motivates us, what holds us back, what caused us to put on the brakes, what caused us to have self doubt and fears and lack of confidence and lack of certainty. We know more about how to get things done more than ever before in our life. But most people have never been taught this stuff. When was the last time you got the user's manual for your brain of how do I use my brain better? Your brain is responsible for everything you hear, see, feel, taste, smell, touch into it. It's responsible for everything, but no user's manual. That's why I wrote this to give you the user's manual. It's about 11 bucks on Amazon, by the way. It's cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap. So one last little piece for you, plus I'll give you a couple bonus pieces. University, Dominica University did some research a few years ago on the value of writing goals down. And the people who took their goals out of their head wrote them down with one little piece, which I'll share with you in just a moment, were 50% more likely to achieve their goals than the people that did not achieve their goals. 5, 0. 50% more likely to achieve their goals than people who didn't write their goals down. And so invest a little bit of time writing your goals down. But more importantly, why not look at them every day just to cognitively prime your brain on what it is that you want, Right? So when you have your goals and you look at them every day, you're actually not just reinforcing, yes, this is what I want. Giving your brain an instruction to focus on everything in your physical world and even in your imagination that can help you achieve it. But you're priming your brain to move from conscious to subconscious by the simple act of reviewing it every day. Now, here's the other piece that I shared with, that I said I would share with you is whenever you set a goal, and you're using that left prefrontal cortex, right. And the occipital lobe, and you're activating the motivational centers of your brain, as I shared with you how to do, there's another piece that you have to consider doing. What is one, not ten? What is one action step you can take today? One action step you can take today to move you an inch closer to your goal, a centimeter closer to your goal. If you have a health goal, could you drink one glass of water to be healthier? Could you do one jumping jack? Could you do one push up, one sit up? Could you read one paragraph of a book to upgrade your knowledge or skills? If you have a financial goal, what is one thing that you can do today? Not tomorrow, not next week, not the week after that, today, to move you in that direction. Now, why am I urging you to do one thing? And the answer is because the lower the resistance is in the brain, okay? Meaning the smaller the action is, the less your brain is going to fire off any of the circuits that put on the brake. So if you come up with, well, here's I need to do this, I need to do this, I need to do this. I need to do this and then I can do this. No, no, no, no, no. What we want to do is reduce it to the ridiculous at first. You can always add complexity later. One of the things that I see, people, you know, either they don't have plans, right? They have goals. I want to achieve this. I want to make this amount of money, I want to grow this business. I want to write a book, I want to, I want to start an organization. I want to do, I want to do, I want to do. And then when they come up with the things that they need to get done, they write out these long ass lists and they're like, oh my. They're overwhelmed in a state of overwhelm, in a state of confusion, in a state of uncertainty, in a state of self doubt. You activate other circuits in your brain, like the fear circuit or the stress circuit, anxiety circuit, and guess what it does? It reverses all of the motive for action, all of the motivation. It deactivates the part of your brain that you need to use and activates that right prefrontal cortex that comes up with all the reasons why you can't or why you won't. And so when you set a goal, I'm good with you setting big goals. I love big goals. And I like you to set goals that are big enough, okay? But that don't shut down your motivation and your desire to take action because they're so big, you freeze and you're laden with fear or uncertainty or self doubt because that means you're activating the stress center, okay? And the vagus nerve and the sympathetic nervous system in the brain, which shuts down motivation, which is what you need to take action. So when you reduce the behaviors to one little step, then one more little step, guess what you do? You're in motion. You've got the energy in motion towards the goal in the dream. So if you want to achieve more goals, why not work with how your brain naturally works? Why not tap into the genius Einstein part of your brain, left prefrontal cortex? Why not learn how to deactivate the Frankenstein part of your brain that's got that little critic in your ear saying you're not good enough, you're not smart enough, you're not worthy. You tried this before. You're going to be embarrassed, ashamed, ridiculed, judge. What if you fail? What if you succeed? What if you're disappointed? Does that ring a bell? That little voice in your ear that comes, that's Frankenstein. So you need to learn how to calm Frankenstein down. You need to learn how to activate Einstein and a couple other little parts of your brain. And when you create what I call our brain friendly goals with simple plans of stuff that you can and will do, you're getting yourself in motion. All right, there's obviously a whole lot more. There's a whole bunch of inner sizes, right? Inner size strengthening your mental and emotional muscles so you achieve your goals and dreams faster and easier before there's over 20 of them in the book. When you pick up the book, it's 11 bucks. You're going to get a whole bunch of free gifts.
