I React To My First Youtube Video | Easy Steps to Success

John Assaraf watches his earliest YouTube video and walks through the seven-step success framework he still teaches. Start with a specific vision and measurable goals, build daily habits over 100 days, upgrade your skills, and take action regardless of economic conditions. He shares old real estate deals and what still holds up versus what makes him laugh about his younger self.

Holy shit, was my hair ever a lot darker? And I sound really nasally. Hey, welcome to my YouTube channel and today I'm going to be viewing some of my old YouTube videos from like 10, 12, 15 years ago. Yeah, I've been on YouTube for that long and you know what I'm wondering? Did I make any sense? Did what I say actually work? Have I changed my mind on stuff? I know I looked a lot younger. Now let's see how I did back then and whether I would tell you to do the same thing today. Alright, so let me get started right now.
My very first blog. I decided for 2009 that I'm not just going to communicate with you via email and writing, but also through a video.
Alright, so the first thing I'm noticing is holy shit, was my hair ever a lot darker And I sound really nasally.
We're going to do one just about every week to help you have the best year ever in 2016. Now I'm going to talk with you specifically about how to take the seven necessary steps to achieve success.
Alright, so I'm watching myself talk about the seven necessary steps to achieve success. And the first thing I can share.
With you is success leaves clues.
And yes, there are steps to success. So there's steps to get your mindset right, there are steps to get your skill set upgraded, and there are certainly action steps that lead to success versus to failure. So let me continue.
In any economy, and when I say any economy, I mean that there are people who have made millions during recessionary times. That means that you can also. And I'm going to.
Alright, so I just heard the word recessionary times. Well, guess what I've been hearing all over the news. Interest rates are high, Feds just raised them again. Stock markets up, stock markets down, valuations are up, valuations are done. We're in a recession, we're going into recession. It's going to be short term, it's going to be long term. I don't give a shit on what happens out there. I've learned that if I can control what's going on in here, how I look at something, how I frame it, I can always frame something in a way that empowers me and strengthens my resolve, or I can allow something to control me and I choose not to allow outside circumstances to control me. I adapt, I adopt new strategies and I take inspired action no matter what is happening in the marketplace. And just to give you one little bit of tidbit, When I was 19, I got into real estate. Interest rates were 21.5%. People are complaining now that they're like 5 or 6%. Interest rates are 21.5%. And I still sold a pile of real estate back then. Let me keep watching.
Step number one. You must start with a very specific target or a very specific goal of exactly what you want. And in each area of your life. That means exactly what do you want your health to be like this year, mentally and physically? What do you want your spiritual connection to be like this year? What do you want your relationships to be like this year with your significant other, with your family members, possibly with your children if you have them? You've got to start off with a very specific outcome that will give your brain the exact instruction of what you want to look like. When I say look like, I want you to create very specific goals with very specific ways to measure what it looks like. Feels like at the end of the deadline that you set.
Alright, so I'm watching first step, and I still teach this today. First, you've got to have your vision clear, clear, clear. Then you set goals on your way to your vision. So if you want to know what you are going to achieve in the next 12 months, why not create the vision of looks like upon completion? And once you have the vision, then you come back and you say, okay, what are a few goals that I can set towards that vision? And you create the action steps to say, okay, if I want to be healthy, what's my diet going to be like if I want to be healthy, what kind of exercise program should I be on if I want to be healthy, what should my sleep schedule be like If I want to be healthy, what should I do to be more aware, more mindful, calmer, less stressed? These are all things you can think about, make choices about, and then create the plan to achieve. I'm gonna keep watching.
This is good shit. Number two, you must at your very core believe that you can achieve that goal, even if you don't know how you're going to do it. When you set the goal, you see the way goals work is that when you write down a goal, you send a signal to the brain. And when you review that goal and you start to think about ways to achieve that goal, and when you visualize that goal already having been achieved, now you're getting your entire neurophysiology involved and you're getting the universe to tap into your goals and to help you achieve.
All right, so listen, this one is so, so critical. When we set a vision for anything we want to achieve, or any goal that we don't have the mindset for, we don't have the skill set for, we don't even know what the heck to do. We set the goal anyway. Why? Because if you want to get your brain, your brain to really work for you, then what you want to do is activate that genius part of your brain. I call it the Einstein part of your brain. And here's what I learned many years ago.
How to achieve anything.
Let me repeat this because it's so important. How to achieve anything always comes after choosing what you want to achieve, because I think you'd agree with me. We've learned how to achieve just about anything in our lives. For health, wealth, relationships, career, business, finance. We're figuring out how to put humans on Mars right now, which we haven't figured out yet. But for everything that you and I, for the most part, want to achieve, the blueprint, the how, the knowledge, the skills already exist. So don't let your lack of knowledge control your thinking right now. Don't let, okay, all of your past or present circumstances to control you. There's a really good tip for you.
Number three.
Hold on, number three. What the f shirt am I wearing? Right? I didn't notice it before because I was paying attention what I was saying. God, that looks awful. Maybe the little squiggly lines look like, you know, brain neural networks, but that color barf.
Alright, you've got to develop the habits required to achieve those goals. And why do I say habits? Well, because setting a goal happens at the conscious mind level. But what causes us to think, perceive and behave in ways that we need to achieve our goals is what our habits are.
Why do we develop habits? Right? I talk about, you have to develop the habits to achieve the goal. Something that pops into my mind is this. We all have constructive, empowering, positive habits. We all have disempowering, destructive, maybe negative habits, right? The positive, empowering, constructive habits lift us up and help us achieve our goals. The disempowering, destructive ones, they're a pain in the ass, right? They like, move us away from our goals. Habits are the brain's way to conserve energy. We have thought habits, we have emotional habits. And of course, we have behaviors that we take. You wake up in the morning, you go take a pee, you go grab your coffee, you start your routine, that's a habit. Our brain is wired to repeat habits that we've repeated. Let me say that again. Our brain is wired to repeat habits that we've repeated. And it does this to conserve energy, which is the third rule of your brain. Safety and security is number one. Avoidance of pain or discomfort is number two. Conserved energies, number three. So if you don't develop habits that are empowering, constructive and help you achieve or build to your goals, then you are by default doing what? Reinforcing, disempowering habits. So ask yourself a question. What is one simple daily habit that if you did that, it would build you up? And here's what I want you to do. Take a little bit of action every single day towards developing the habit. Because when you do it for at least 100 days, screw this 21 day thing. That came from sometime in the 60s and 70s. 100 days to create the neural patterns to develop the beginning of a habit. And then the habit will develop you. Did you get that? Develop the habit. So the habit develops you keep it simple and do it every day for 100 days.
Step number four. You must remember that the skills and knowledge that you have today have gotten you the results you've got today. If you want to achieve a newer goal in your health, your wealth, your spirituality, your career or business or financial, you have to acquire new skills and new knowledge that match up with the new goals that you have. And so it's not enough just to gather the knowledge, you have to upgrade the skills that you need to have in order to achieve those goals.
Alright, so this is really a valuable point because you know, the skills that you and I have that got us here. You mean some of the skills like the discipline you know, that got us here, got you to where you are. Those are great skills that you're going to need for the rest of your life. But every level of the game that you want to play at, you can play at the kindergarten level, the grade school level, high school level, university level, pro level, all star level. Every level that you want to reach requires a new way of thinking, requires a new level of skills to match the level of success that you want. Skills required to make, let's say $50,000 are different than the skills required to make a million dollars. And the skills required to make a million dollars are different than the skills required to make 10 million. So what you have to ask yourself is, what's the level that I want to reach, whether it's in finances or health or relationship? And then what are the skills that I need to master in order to achieve that level of success? And remember one thing here, this is critical. Amateurs will do things until they get things right once or twice. Pros will do things until they can't get it wrong.
Point number five, you've got to develop a plan, even if it's a simple plan, to help you achieve your goals. And what do I mean by that? Well, what are you going to do today, for example, to be healthier? Is it something about your food, is it something about exercise that you could be doing today, right now, to be moving closer towards your health goals? What about your finances? Could you be learning more about making more money, learning more about keeping more money or investing money for the long term?
Alright, so I'm talking about like developing a plan, right? There's a little formula I want you to be aware of. It's called PPP equals ppp. Like what does PPP equal PPP mean? And it means piss poor planning equals piss poor performance. Every single coach, basketball coach, hockey coach, knitting coach, Rubik's cube coach, chess coach, every business coach will work with his or her students and or people that they're coaching. On doing what? On creating a plan. No differently than an architect will create a blueprint. No differently than a contractor will have a plan to work with their subcontractors. You need a plan to achieve your health goals, your relationship goals, your career goals. Why? Because if you invest the time on the front end to develop a plan, you then you could implement the plan. You don't have to think about what you need to do because you already thought about it and you have the plan. Then it takes a fraction of the time to adjust and tweak to see if you're on track and on target or not.
It's no different than if a plane.
Is going from San Diego, where I live, to New York. Once the plane has got the trajectory and the plan, the coordinates of how it's going to get from San Diego to New York. It's so easy to adjust the air. You go a little left, a little right, a little faster, a little slower so that you can coordinate a beautiful landing. We'll consider the landing as achieving your goal. But you've got to create the plan. You got to get into action. And then you tweak and adjust, tweak and adjust, tweak and adjust. Like an autopilot system does on a boat, a plane, or a guidance missile system. You have a GPS in your brain that can help you achieve every single goal. And when you create a plan, it makes it so much easier for your brain to help you take action and to be motivated. Alright, so let's wrap this up. You know, seven steps, but they all involve three core things right. Getting your mindset right, getting your skill set right, including creating a plan and how to do that. And then the game is won or lost. Every game. Health game, wealth game, relationship game, career game, business game, spiritual game, financial game, on the field, in action. I know many of you saw me in the movie the Secret. We talked about the law of attraction. But just remember, the last six letters of attraction is what A C, T, I O, N Action. You gotta include the law of attraction in your regimen and include the law of Goya. The law of Goy is get off your ass a raf and have some fun. Listen, I hope you enjoyed this. If you did, let me know in the chat if you want me to do more of these. And also if you want to go deeper. I invite you check out some of my coaching programs.
