Master Your Mindset To Achieve Your Goals

John Assaraf teaches a three-step method to handle the doubts and fears that block your goals: notice the feeling, write down what caused it, then write concrete action steps to override it. He traces most doubts back to past failures and says the practice works if you do it consistently.

Hey, this is John Assraf. And one of the topics that I get asked a lot about is how do I overcome, you know, my doubts, fears, anxieties that I have around projects that I may not know how to achieve? How do you overcome the insecurities that you may have around your past failures? And the answer to that is really all around mastering your mindset. Whenever we have a doubt or a fear, it produces an emotion. And so mastering your mindset is all about recognizing what emotion am I feeling right now? If you think about the word feeling, feeling is awareness of vibration. That's what it is. Vibration is everything in the universe which is made up of energy. Your body has a hundred trillion cells that vibrate and oscillate. Based on what? Well, based on your environment, or based on what you're thinking about, or based on unconscious beliefs and patterns. So when you have a feeling or an emotion, that means that your body is vibrating either in a positive or. Or a negative fashion. The key to master your emotions, master your feelings, is first and foremost to be aware of what it is you're feeling. How do you become aware? Well, the first step is something called mindfulness. You start becoming mindful by paying attention to the signals that your body is giving you. Are you comfortable? Are you uncomfortable? Are you feeling agitated? Are you. Are you feeling totally thriving and totally in a space of moving forward or in a space of retreating? The feelings are just signals of what's happening in your mind, in your brain. And once you learn to pay attention to the feeling, the vibration of your body, it'll tell you what's happening in the mind. So how do you do the next step? Well, the next step is to write down the emotion that you're feeling and ask yourself a question. Why am I feeling doubt? Or why am I feeling afraid? Or why am I feeling like I really can't take action? I'm procrastinating. Write down three, four, five reasons why you're feeling that way, and then write an action step to override that feeling and that lack of behavior or lack of taking action. That way, you'll counter the emotion and you'll counter the cause of the emotion. Most of us have doubts, fears, or anxieties based on things that have happened in the past. Times that we tried to succeed and failed. Times we tried to do things and haven't gotten the result that we want. And so we have a mental reference to that. Anytime we think about trying something new or doing something we've tried in the past that hasn't worked. It produces a negative emotion as a signal that danger may be there. And the truth is, danger may be there, but the polar opposite of that is success may be there as well. So your lesson is to master your mindset. First, be mindful of your vibration and become aware of it. Second, write down what the feeling is and what the behavior that that feeling is causing. And then third, write down a countermeasure of how to take action and change the feeling, the behavior, so that you move forward. As you master your mindset, you'll master achieving every goal you have.
