Setting Up Your Business Goals

John Assaraf, CEO of Praxis Now, explains why businesses stall: they lack a clear vision and daily focused work. He built ReMax of Indiana to $1.2 billion in sales by age 30 by writing down his billion-dollar goal at 26, then learning skills, networking, and showing up every day.

Hey, friends, it's John Assraf, New York Times best selling author of Having it all and the Answer and CEO of Praxis now, where we teach people and companies all over the world the neuroscience of maximum achievement for business and for life. Now I've got a question for you. Have you ever wondered why very few business owners reach the $500,000 or million dollar or 5 million dollar mark in revenue? The reason I ask you this is because most companies will never achieve that level of success. In this video, I'm going to share with you the two critical factors that every business must have to ensure that they have the best chance to succeed and remain in business while they grow their business to the revenues that they want to. Now, many years ago, I started a little real estate company called ReMax of Indiana. Now, most people know the story of ReMax. However, what I did back in 1987 was I acquired the franchising rights for the state of Indiana. And ReMax at that time had failed twice in that region with other business owners before. Well, one day there was a reporter from the Indianapolis Business Journal that came into my little executive office suite and as he was entering interviewing me for the Business Journal, he asked me what was my vision for ReMax of Indiana, knowing that it had failed twice before with two different owners and at the young age of 26, I don't know where this came out of my mouth or why it came out of my mouth, but I said to him, well, we're going to achieve a billion dollars in sales. And he looked at me and he said, young man, are you aware that ReMax has failed here twice? But more importantly, there isn't one real estate company in the state of Indiana that's ever achieved a billion dollars in sales. And I said to him, well, sir, I'm going to be the first. He said, what gives you the confidence and the certainty that you can achieve a billion dollars in sales when companies that have been here for over 100 years have never done that? He says, well, where I come from, which was Toronto, Canada, where we do many billions of dollars in sales a year, and I believe that we can transfer that vision here to Indiana because we understand that we've done it before. Now, what's the real moral of this story? The first thing I want you to understand is at the age of 26, I had never built a business. I didn't know anything about setting, you know, a vision or goals or strategies or tactics or processes and systems that we know every business has to have. However, because I set a vision. I went to work on that vision as soon as he walked out of that office. And unbeknownst to me, what I did unconsciously back then was I primed my brain to. To have a goal and a vision that even though I didn't know how to achieve it, I focused on achieving that goal every single day. I learned what I needed to learn. I networked with the people that I needed to network. I learned about sales and marketing and management and finance. And even though for about five or six months, I was the laugh of the town in every real estate office in. In the state of Indiana, over the course of the next year, two years, three years, four years, and then five years, I kept working every day relentlessly towards that vision. And guess what? In 1992, another article came in the Indianapolis Business Journal that said that REMAX of Indiana had become the number one real estate company in the state of Indiana. And guess what? We had achieved $1.2 billion in sales. Now, I share that with you because I want you to understand that even though you may not know how to achieve a goal, you may not have the knowledge or the skills or the beliefs or even the habits. Right now. When you commit your goals to writing, when you focus on the clarity of what it is you want to achieve, and you commit yourself to doing whatever it takes that's moral and ethical and professional, and you will immediately start to attract the people into your life and into your business. You will prime your brain to think about what you need to think about, to emotionalize what you need to emotionalize, and more importantly, you'll start to behave in ways that are in line and attuned with the goal and the vision that you have set. Your job is to get vision, clarity, and then go to work every single day that figuring out how can you achieve that goal. When you do that, you will align every cell in your body with the unseen forces of the universe to help you achieve your goals and vision much easier, much faster and more predictably than ever before.
