This is the final segment of John Assaraf's "Seven Steps to Your Best Year Ever" series (Part 3 of 3). In this chunk he covers Point 6 — the necessity of taking daily action and building habits that create the "mental muscle" for consistent progress — and Point 7 — the importance of reviewing results frequently (preferably daily) and correcting course when actions don't produce the desired outcomes. He uses airplane and car-headlight metaphors to illustrate incremental adjustments and limited forward visibility, and closes with a 2009 greeting and a request to refer friends.

Point number six, you must take daily action towards your goals. Why is that important? It's important because as you take small little steps towards your goals, you start to develop the mental muscle of taking action every day. Now, in order to take action every day, we're going to go back to one of our other points and that was to develop the habits. When you develop the habits of taking action every day towards your goal, no matter how small your actions are, you start to develop the mental muscle you need and you must have in order to make the goals become your reality. So a little bit every single day towards your goals helps you go a long, long way. Point number seven, actions are not enough. They're needed and required, but not enough. And here's why. What if the result you get isn't exactly what you want? Well, point number seven is that you review your results and you correct the course of action as often as possible, preferably every day. So at the end of every day, do a little mental health check. Say, did I apply the things that I wanted to do today? If the answer is yes, great. Give yourselves great kudos to tap yourself on the shoulder and go to the next day. If, however, you didn't take action, or some of the action you took didn't work, it's time to change course. Think about this. Whenever you get into an airplane and you're going from one destination to another, the plane is off course 99.9% of the time because the headwinds, the tailwinds, any of the turbulence that occurs in the space and air. But what the airplane does is it adjusts its course every second or nanoseconds. In this case, to make sure that the plane ends up at its destination. That's what you have to do. You've got to set the course, set the plan of action, and then check that plan of action based on the results and keep moving forward every single day. And here's the good news. If we were to leave right now from where you are, let's say it was pitch black and dark, and we were going to go on a 3,000 or 5,000 mile journey by car, and it was night and pitch black, you'd only have to have the headlights on about 100 yards to be able to see that amount of road. When you got to the end of that road, guess what? Your headlights would allow you to see further. And so the beautiful thing about achieving goals is you don't have to have all the answers right now, all the plans right now, or all of the directions right now, take it as far as you can. When you get there, you'll be able to see further. And guess what? I'll be with you for the balance of the year to give you pointers and tips on how to stay on track and how to achieve every one of your goals in life, in business, no matter what. Have an outstanding 2009. Do me a favor. Refer your friends to us. We'd love to help them have the best year ever.
