John Assaraf covers three steps to your best year: build daily habits that become automatic after 2-3 weeks of willpower, learn and practice skills tied to your goals, and create a simple daily plan with concrete actions like what to eat or how to invest.

Number three, you've got to develop the habits required to achieve those goals. And why do I say habits? Well, because setting a goal happens at the conscious mind level. But what causes us to think, perceive and behave in ways that we need to achieve our goals is what our habits are. And your habits are at the subconscious mind. So there's one part of the brain that sets goals, but the other part of the brain called the implicit memory system that will help you achieve your goals. That means you need to discover what are the habits that will help you achieve the goals that you want to achieve this year, this month and this week. And then with those habits, you use your willpower and persistence initially for two or three weeks to achieve them. You use your mental conditioning and strength to make sure that it's in embedded into the subconscious mind. And then you take action every day towards those goals. Step number four, you must remember that the skills and knowledge that you have today have gotten you the results you've got today. If you want to achieve a newer goal in your health, your wealth, your spirituality, your career or business or financial, you have to acquire new skills and new knowledge that match up with the new goals that you have. And so it's not enough just to gather the knowledge, you have to upgrade the skills that you need to have in order to achieve those goals. Remember, information on its own is not where it's at, it's the application of information. That's where it's at. Point number five, you've got to develop a plan, even if it's a simple plan, to help you achieve your goals. And, and what do I mean by that? Well, what are you going to do today, for example, to be healthier? Is it something about your food, is it something about exercise that you could be doing today, right now, to be moving closer towards your health goals? What about your finances? Could you be learning more about making more money, learning more about keeping more money, or investing money for the long term? Absolutely. So you've got to make sure that happens.
