Social Media & Content Distribution With Kay Mcnellen

This YouTube presentation (hosted by Kay Mcnellen, uploaded by John Assaraf) explains social media distribution: what "distribution" means (scheduling/sharing/posting curated or created assets at optimal times with correct copy/links) and a practical workflow using an "assignment sheet" with tabs for curation, assignment, and scheduling. It reviews scheduler tools and trade-offs — Creator Studio (Facebook/Instagram native scheduler; recommended), Repost app (Instagram reposting with credit), Buffer (cost-effective multi-platform scheduler and analytics for Twitter/LinkedIn), Meet Edgar (content-rotation scheduler for users without a team), and "Metaverse" as Facebook’s evolving tool — and calls out exceptions that must be hand-posted (Instagram Reels under 1 min, LinkedIn videos, Stories). The talk also recommends using VAs in the same time zone for hand-scheduling when needed and keeping all assets and copy in one assignment sheet for easy scheduling.

Distribution is the act of scheduling, sharing or posting by hand the previously created or curated assets at the optimized time with the correct copy and the optimized link, if applicable. Next on this list is distribution. Distribution, while seemingly the least difficult part of the process, is absolutely one of the most complicated and time consuming. Distribution is the act of scheduling, sharing or posting by hand the previously created or curated assets at the optimized time with the correct copy and the optimized link, if applicable. If it's a call to action. So it's the act of taking one piece of content and making sure that it goes out at the right time in the right way, where it needs to go after something is created. So basically that assignment sheet, let's back it up. I just want to kind of like lay this out for you because it's the process, right? We're looking at that assignment sheet I'm going to send you. The first tab is curation. The first tab of that is a curation tab where I am going out in the world and I'm pulling all of the things I like directly into that sheet. I want everything to live in one place for my team. So I pull everything over from there. Once I've got a nice big batch, I go through and I filter. I go, you know what, on second thought, this isn't working for me. Or on second thought, this is working for me. Or if you have someone who can do this for you, you have someone else curate, you go in, you filter, you go, I like this one, I don't like this one. Whatever you choose that you like either moves directly to be scheduled because you're just going to reshare it, you're just going to take that link and put it right on your page. Whether mostly I recommend that if it's like from an account like John Astra that you respect, just share it. Just share it. You already respect him. You, you like his content, share it. I say do that for others. If there's something that you like, the design of the look of, or the actual quote is a quote you want to use or recreate, you're going to pull that into being assigned, right? So from curation, we move either to assigning or directly to scheduling. So once we created everything, everything that's been created moves to scheduling. So now the scheduling sheet, which is your fourth tab on your assignment sheet, keeping everything in the same place, keeping it, boom, boom, boom. On the fourth tab of this assignment sheet, you've got this great list of all of the stuff that Needs to be scheduled. It's going to have its caption already. It's going to have a call to action. Are you calling to an offer or a program that's going to be in your scheduling sheet? It's going to have the platform it needs to go on and then a link to the actual asset. Right. So one of the biggest resources then of course for scheduling is having a one stop shop for your scheduler or for yourself. You can just grab and drop all of that stuff into the various scheduling platforms. Now let's talk about some great scheduling platforms. Number one is Creator Studio. Creator Studio, while being a little archaic, is what Facebook and Instagram want us to use right now you will be dinged for not using it and we're going to talk about that in a little bit when I get to meet Edgar and a little bit when I get to social media about why. But basically there's this gigantic push right now in the social media world for authenticity and what that means is that you have to, they want to see you doing the work. The only way Facebook can see that you are scheduling, that you are participating with them is if you use their scheduling platform, which is Creator Studio. So Creator Studio, number one, highly recommend using that for Facebook and Instagram. Repost app. This is for Instagram specifically. This is for reposting reels or videos or content on Instagram that you want to just simply repost and credit the author. The repost will do the crediting for you. It tags the original user so that you don't get dinged for copyright. And then you can write your little caption say love this post by and then it puts the person in there for you. So incredible. And then you can post it to your page directly from Repost. Absolutely incredible app. Downloaded it today. Buffer, Buffer is what I use. It's my favorite cost effective scheduler right now. There's a lot of other schedulers, you know, on the thing for, for LinkedIn and Twitter, not for Facebook and Instagram, once again Creator studio, but for LinkedIn Twitter. I think Buffer is the most cost effective and I also like the design. This is Buffer up here and the upper left hand corner. We use it for Twitter and LinkedIn. We also use it for analytic gathering, which I'll get into when we talk about data. But Buffer is kind of a one stop shop for posting and gathering data and engage if you want to use it that way. It's just got a really good interface. I haven't been dinged for using it for LinkedIn or Twitter. Absolutely. Recommend you can post to both Twitter and LinkedIn at the same time. So if the same thing's going out to both places, you can just schedule it once and it will distribute it to both. You can put your pre time slots in there. Like you can say hey, I want stuff to go out on Twitter at 11am 3 and 5 and they'll put them there for you so that when you're scheduling you just fill them in. It's a really beautiful interface. Reminds me a lot of like Salesforce Lightning in terms of the look. Very user friendly. Next is the Metaverse. So the Metaverse is the answer to the third party apps that Facebook has seen people using. It is the where Creator Studio is going. My guess is in the next year Creator Studio will no longer be a thing and they will ask everyone to use Metaverse. Metaverse has a scheduling system that looks a lot like Buffer in the sense that you can create like a calendar of content and see a calendar view. It's. It's not. It's new so it's very buggy. I don't recommend swapping to it yet. I do recommend going in there and using it for other things though because Facebook wants you to be using it. So one of those things is curation. Like I said, Metaverse can bring up all of your most high performing posts and other users high performing posts. So definitely use it. I wouldn't necessarily start using it for scheduling yet, but be prepared to because we're definitely going to have to in the next year. Okay. Yeah, one second. I'm so sorry to interrupt you. So I'm getting a lot of messages. This is. Everyone loves all the information but you're talking so fast. I know guys, if that's what I do, I'm sorry, I'm very, very quick. I'll slow down just letting you know. Remember, we do have a lot to get through though and I want to leave time for questions and we always can go back and watch the video. The video will be here forever. You can watch me and 75 times speed. I just don't want to miss any of the content that we've gotten in here and we've got like 35 slides to get through. Absolutely. Thank you so. Absolutely. So then going back a little bit here on what I just said, if you are in a place where you personally just do not have time to schedule out as much content as is required by the accounts. I get it. I've been there. I understand. A really great resource for you. Yes. You will be Dinged. However, I don't believe that the the amount of reach pull you are going to get is worth not using it. Meet Edgar is an incredible resource for somebody who does not have a team, does not have the time. What Meet Edgar allows you to do is create about like a month, two months worth of content up front. You load it in once you tag it as the type, it is like this is a meme, this is a. Et cetera. You create a calendar that looks just like the schedule that I showed you of, sort of like rotating content and. And then it rotates it for you. So let's say that you drop like 10 to 20 Instagram IGTVs in there or 10 and sorry, it won't do Instagram for you. So let's say that you drop 10 to 20 portrait videos for Facebook or blogs or memes. You do that up front. You set your schedule and then it posts them all. When it runs out, it starts back at the beginning and posts them again. There's a shuffle feature where you can shuffle the orders so that you can make it less, you know, one after repetitive. But if you do not have the ability to hand schedule all of the time, Meet Edgar is awesome. I absolutely love it. I think it's sad that it's being dinged, but once again, it's not being dinged hard enough or intensely enough to not use it. If that's who you are, absolutely use it until you can build up enough of a following to be able to move to Creator studio for schedulers. If you are somebody who wants to do the hand scheduling but you know that you don't have time to do it, scheduling is a massive amount of time and effort, highly recommend time, etc. They hire out VAs. Most of them are United States sourced, so they're going to be in your time zone. The reason why having a scheduler in your time zone is important is because some of the scheduling is going to be done by hand and it will seem odd to Instagram and Facebook. They are this smart. If you're posting stories consistently at 3am local time, Facebook's going to know something's up. So I highly recommend trying to find schedulers in your own time zone. Time etc is really good for that. They have VAs all over the world who have been trained in different types of skills. Our scheduler is from Time, et cetera and she's lovely. There are lots of other VA resources too. If you just search, you know, VA resources, you can find some really good ones online and then of course, the apps themselves. So there are some things that the apps will not allow you to schedule in any scheduler. Those things include reels, the videos that go on Instagram in less than one minute. LinkedIn videos, those have to be posted by hand. You technically can schedule them up through a third party app, but the format is never consistent. So I highly Recommend Hand posting LinkedIn videos. And then of course, stories. Stories. There are also schedulers for stories. Do not use them. The format that they come out in is wrong. It's very clearly either warped. If you're trying to link to something, the link is the old version of links, which is swipe up and not the new, which is the sticker. So some of these assets have to be done by hand the day of. So Monday, Wednesday, Friday, I'm posting things and stories by hand. That's just the way of the monster. If you have a really good organization system like Asana that can remind you to post, that's obviously going to take a lot of pressure off of you to have to remember when things are being scheduled. And if you set yourself up for success with an excellent process like that asset assignment sheet, then you already can just. You pull the link, you pull the copy, you post it up. It takes less than five minutes, right? So set yourself up for success here because there is a lot you have to do. This screenshot down here is meet Edgar, just so you guys can kind of see what the interface looks like once again, sort of mimicking the buffer look. Very easy interface. You create categories of things. So like this would be like a meme category, a video category, a blog category. You fill those categories in and then they rotate them for you.
Hey, this is John. And if you like that video, watch the next video because it is packed with things that you can do right now to achieve success way faster than ever before.
