Solving The Permanent Weight Loss Puzzle - John Assaraf

John Assaraf hosts a live-style YouTube session titled "Solving The Permanent Weight Loss Puzzle," sharing lessons from 10 years of research with nutritionists, neuroscientists and behavior experts. He frames permanent weight loss as three interlocking issues: subconscious body-weight set points (thermostat metaphor requiring 66–365 days to recalibrate), food/addiction-related drivers (sugar, flour, salt combos and dopamine anticipatory circuits), and the hidden self-image that must be realigned with conscious goals. He describes practical tools (the GOOP workbook and a pre-commitment worksheet), hormonal factors (leptin, ghrelin, insulin/insulin resistance), and emphasizes mindset, emotional management, and slow steady change over quick-fix diets. The session includes audience interaction and a CTA to download a 10–12 page manual and a ~1h training video.

Hey there. Good morning. Welcome to achieve even more, solving the permanent weight loss puzzle. Stopping the madness. Hope you're doing great. I'm going to be going through this document with you with some things for you to fill out and find out what issues are standing in your way. There's a whole bunch of really good stuff we're going to be covering on solving the weight loss puzzle. Now, a lot of people last week when I did some training, sent me a lot of great notes. They left me a lot of amazing comments below. So as you join me, let me know who you are, where you're from and just hit the like or the love button. So I know that you are there. I always like to check that to make sure we're going to be using this little manual today. There's a whole bunch of just great stuff that you could be using in order to get your mindset right and the emotions around permanent weight loss and how to release the weight you hate and keep it off forever. This is going to be a great checklist for you. All right. For today. And as we go forward in this and really helping you understand this, I'm going to be sharing with you the three key pieces. I also have something that we work with all of our clients on. It's called a GOOP workbook, which I'm going to be going through with you as well. So if you want a copy in a few minutes, my, my team will put in a link below so you can download it for free. So you can either follow along now or afterwards. So just out of curiosity, were you on the call last week? Hi, Jasmita. Hi, Jasmita. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Hi. Alright, so just out of here we on last week and can you hear me and see me? Okay, hit the like or the love button and let's have a little bit of fun solving the permanent weight loss puzzle. I showed people a picture last week and many of you were like, oh my God, I never knew that you had gained so much weight. Hi, Christina. My assistant Samantha, who's sitting over here right now, just put a, put this out. That's my wife, Maria. Hold on. That's my wife Maria. But that's me 10 years ago. That's me now. And the reason I like to share that with people, even though it's a little embarrassing, is I struggled with being overweight for a long time, for probably about 15 years. And I lost weight and gained weight and lost weight and gained weight. And many of you may notice that there's Einstein over here. And Frankenstein, my newest little painting, is over there. And that's to represent the two different frontal lobes that we have. Left is Einstein, right is Frankenstein. And when you understand how these two parts of your brain work together, it makes it a little bit easier to be in total control and set goals and then achieve them instead of having that little voice in your head saying, you can't, you've tried before. What if you fail? What if you disappoint yourself? Which we'll talk about in just a moment. So we're going to go through this manual right now. You can get it for free. Just put your email in and we'll do that. So here's the first point you know of this. What is the permanent weight loss puzzle all about? And this is based on the research that I did with some of the top nutritionists in the world, exercise physiologists, neuroscientists, neuropsychologists, self image experts, emotional management experts over the last 10 years. And what I discovered is there are people who actually go on diets and exercise, gain weight. There are people who lose weight really fast, keep it off for a short period of time, gain it all back. I wanted to understand what's really involved the whole thing. Radical honesty and radical transparency for myself. When I started to get on this health decision, I didn't go off the deep end quickly. I wanted to understand the neuromechanics of, and the biology of what was happening. And so when we talk about permanent fat loss, or weight loss, as most people like to call it, the question you have to start with is why do so many people who make a decision, usually around this time of year to lose weight, lose weight? I mean, they do, 99% of people lose weight, but then 99% of people gain it all back. And so that doesn't make sense, does it? So I want to understand, is there more at play than just making a decision to lose weight and keep it off? And let me share with you what I've discovered and you can. What I'd like you to do is get a copy of this and then check off what it might be for you. So here are all of the different things that could get in your way if you're serious about losing weight and keeping it off. So if, for example, you'll see when I do, when I show you this part pieces, the three pieces of the fat loss and weight loss puzzle. If your self image that you have right now with the weight that you have right now and the set point in your brain of what you should weigh and how much fat you should have and how you should look and how you should feel, which are all automatic circuits that activate. If your self image today doesn't match the self image of your new weight and energy and vitality and healthy lifestyle, then what your brain will do is it'll help you lose weight using willpower and persistence and deductive reason or decision making. But within one week, two weeks, three weeks, six weeks, if you don't recalibrate your self image, chances are you're going to revert back to all of the old behaviors. Why? Because the internal processes in your brain that are in your subconscious override your decision making process, overrides the Einstein part of your brain that can choose what you want to achieve and that can imagine what you want to achieve. If your self worth doesn't match, let me just. It's always backwards. Doesn't match the new vision you have. If you have food addictions, you know that are going to be causing these cravings, then it's almost impossible. Almost. It's not impossible, but almost impossible. If you don't burn more calories than you put in, then it's hard to release weight. If you don't manage your portion control, if you eat emotionally because you're either, you know, bored, you're in some kind of trauma or you're stressed, it doesn't help you in your weight loss. If you have a hormone imbalance for some reason because of medication, because of lack of sleep, if you don't have an understanding of hormones and their effect on weight loss. There are two specific hormones that affect weight loss. One is sugar. Not sugar, but leptin. And when your leptin levels are off, it can cause your ability to lose fat and keep it off, to be whacked. If your ghrelin hormones are active, then it causes, it makes it harder for you to lose weight and keep it off. Now I keep saying losing weight or losing fat and keeping it off. And the reason I do this is because most people can lose weight, but when they go on a diet, let's say a low carb diet, you're depleting your glucose levels in your cells and your glycogen levels in your liver. And every gram of carbohydrate usually carries with it 2 to 3 grams of water. So if you're reducing your carb intake over the course of, let's say three or four or five days and you're increasing your protein intake or you're on a keto diet, of course you're going to lose weight, but most of that weight is water. Like you need water. Why not focus on losing fat? And for those of you just joined, we're going to get into solving the permanent weight loss puzzle and there's a little manual for you. And so this cheat sheet that I've put together for you is worthwhile for you to at least take this cheat sheet and check out, do you have one or two or three or five or six things that you really need to focus on? Because if you just think it's diet and exercise, look at all the people that have been to the gym for the last three or four weeks. Chances are they've lost weight if they're also dieting. But the statistics is that 99% of them, this is a true statistic, will gain the weight back. And so instead of yo yo dieting, instead of going through this process over and over and over again like I did, and as I mentioned, you know, I've kept this weight now for 10 years. I am just getting healthier and healthier and healthier because I started to recalibrate what was happening in my mind. On the second page over here, I am going to show you the three things that you really need to focus on for permanent weight and fat loss. So scientists have discovered that we all have set points in our brain, just like a thermostat, okay, in your car or in your home. And when you have a setting, whether it's a weight setting, a fat setting, an energy setting, financial setting, relationship setting, whatever the setting is at the subconscious level, any deviation up or down from that setting or causes automatic circuits to trigger and causes you to behave in ways that will make that setting the comfort zone. Does that make sense? I'm trying to simplify some processes, all right, that are happening in your brain. And if you don't learn how to recalibrate the settings, which takes between 66 days and 365 days, it doesn't take 21 days, it doesn't take 7 days, it doesn't take 30 days for the most part. It takes between 66 days and 365 days to recalibrate and reset some of your self image set points, some of your fat set points, some of your weight set points. So if you're going to go on a diet, you're going to fight against your subconscious mind, which is the 800 pound gorilla. Does that make sense? Right. So you want to be able to start utilizing, all right, some tools to body to reset your body Set point, okay? And this is why you may eat well for a day or two, exercise for four or five or six days, and then you start to hear these rationalizations. And what is rationalizations? It is nothing more than your subconscious mind telling yourself. It's the Frankenstein part of the brain telling yourself, you know what? Today you don't need to pay attention to your diet. You can have that pizza. You can, you know, don't exercise today. You know, watch a little bit of TV. You've been really good for three or four or five or six or seven or 12 or 15 days. It's not getting started that's the hard part for people. When you want to get healthy, right? Losing weight is just, you know, a portion of getting healthy and having vitality and energy and looking and feeling great. But it also affects your self confidence, your certainty. It also affects the positive or negative disempowering habits or empowering habits that you have. And so when you focus on your body weight, set point at the subconscious level, now you're resetting that thermostat. Does that make sense? All right. And Rosie, if that's you, that makes sense. Hey there, Keith, buddy. So the second part of this I know all too well, because I had two issues. For me, I don't know whether it was my Jewish mother always putting so much food on my plate and always saying, eat all of it. But, mom, I'm full. Doesn't matter. You don't know when your next meal is going to come from. Eat all of it. I spent all day cooking in the kitchen. I go, I appreciate it. Tastes great, but I'm full. She goes, I know. Eat more. Anyway, I developed this overeating portion control habit, not even because I was hungry. It was because I was conditioned by my mother. Two, I, for most of my life, was addicted to sugar. Now, when you're addicted to sugar and there's three things you want to be aware of that are major addictive properties. So sugar is seven to eight times more addictive than cocaine. And when you eat too much sugar, it affects your insulin levels. When you affect your insulin levels, you become insulin resistance. You activate a hormone called leptin, and that causes it or it makes it really hard for you to lose fat. So all of these circuits, sugar is a chemical, right? It's a chemical. And so when you have food addictions like sugar, salt, flour, and in that combination, it is one of the most highly addictive combinations. You know, potato chips, pizza, when there is sometimes there's, you know, dairy involved with Cheese and the salt. And cheese. So sugar, flour, salt. When you get addicted to those types of elements, then your brain is seeking that anticipatory release of dopamine. That's the feel good chemical. So when we have a trauma, when we're bored, when we have an addiction, our brain says, you know what? I want to grab something that's easy in order to feel that pleasure. And the anticipation of eating that food or combination of food creates this neural circuit activation of dopamine. And that causes us to feel good. And then we want to keep doing it over and over and over again. But what we don't understand is when we get addicted to those low sugar carbohydrates, flour, white bread, salts and sugars, we are developing this addictive brain that wants to keep going to that as a way to feel good and as a way to give the brain some of the glucose that it needs, a very, very simple sugar. And so if we exercise and we diet, but we don't take care of our food addictions, and guess what happens? It works against us, and we put in a lot of work, and then we lose the battle. And so that's in the second part, is that makes sense to you. And hi there, Cheryl. And hi there, Shelley. Thyroid problems. Yeah, Hormonal thyroid problems, you know, hyper hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism. Absolutely. Hey there, Holly. Hi there, Pre. And Shane. Hello. Hi there, Maceo. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. So, you know, I'm gonna. For those of you just joined, you know, I'm going through, you know, some of the things on this list that you can get and check off, because here's what I can tell you for anything that you might be going through. The solution is there. But one of the things I want to make sure that we're on the same page with is most people go on a diet for a reason. They want to fit into a nice new dress or an old dress or jeans. Some people go and do a diet or exercise for a season. It's bikini season. But the people who release the weight and the fat and keep it off, okay, this is one of the greatest distinctions, is they make a decision about their life and how they want to look and feel and what they want to do and accomplish for the rest of their life. So they're prepared to take the slower and steady path versus the fast path of a pill, a potion, you know, a new fad diet. All of the research is showing that it really doesn't make difference what diet you go on, you know, ketogenic, high fat, a little bit of protein, very little carbohydrates, or go, you know, high, complex carb, lower fat, they all can help you lose weight based on the quality of the calories that you put in. So if you put in 2,000 calories of a keto diet or 2,000 calories of another diet, if you don't use up more than those 2,000 calories on either one of those diets, you will not lose weight. It's like a bank account. If you put in $100, you can't take out 200, right? You have to use up the calories that you put in. So that's number two. So body weight set point is what your brain has been wired and set to because of your weight for the last three months, six months, 12 months, two years, three years. And for us adults in our 40s, 50s, 60s, it becomes really hard to recalibrate that set point unless you understand some of the neuroscience and neuropsychology tools to access that subconscious mind. By the way, when you get this document, I just did a training here in my office on how to win the game of weight loss by retraining your brain. So it's about an hour video training that goes a lot deeper into this. The third part is your hidden self image. Now, by the way, I'm going to talk about this GOOP workbook for you next and a couple of things you can do with it. So what is your hidden self image, which is different than your body set point, but they're closely aligned? All right, so what is your hidden self image? Well, if you were to write down how do you see yourself right now, do you see yourself as vibrant, healthy, energetic, slim, overweight, or obese? What's the secret way that you see yourself, that if nobody could see it, or only your very, very best friend could see yourself, how do you see yourself? Okay. How would you describe yourself? Okay, to yourself? You know, I'm mega, healthy, energetic, vibrant. I'm lean. You know, I have 10% body fat. Or would you say, you know, I'm lethargic, I'm tired, I'm overweight, I don't like really looking at myself in the mirror. I don't feel sexy or attractive. You know, I'm overweight, I feel fat, I feel ugly, or I feel beautiful. Whatever it is, there is a hidden self image of you that you must change, which is part of your identity right now. You must change your hidden self image to match the new weight, energy, health, vitality, and the fun and experiences that you want to have hidden. If there's a mismatch, I want you to understand what's happening. Let's say you have a goal of letting go of 20 or 30 or 40 or 50 pounds. Doesn't matter the amount. And that's your conscious goals and desires. Get some new headphones. Your conscious goals or desires. Well, if your conscious goal and desires and how you'd like to see yourself doesn't match your hidden current. Hidden current self image of yourself, you have one part of your brain saying, this is what I want. That's the Einstein part of your brain, the left prefrontal cortex, imagining, seeing what you want. But then you have the right part of your brain, your right prefrontal cortex that accesses the occipital lobe and the memory center in your body, in your brain. And it says there's a mismatch between what you want and what there is in there. So again, you have to match the vision, the goals, the weight loss, the energy, the vitality, the health with a subconscious pattern. If you don't do that, it's like having one foot on the gas and one foot on the brake. And many of you know that my passion is all around strengthening your mindset and emotional skills, reprogramming your subconscious mind so that there's coherence instead of chaos. Does that make sense? So. So one of the things that I want you to do, and this document will help you, there's a group exercise that we teach all of our clients in our Winning the Game of Weight Loss program, in every one of our programs, and it's called the GOOP workbook. Okay? And with the GOOP workbook, there's also something called a pre commitment worksheet. All right, so here's how this goes. Number one, I want you to take this document, okay? And I want you to write out what's the. What's the goal? And the vision that you have for yourself that activates your left prefrontal cortex and the motivational circuit in your brain. Then I want you to write out what's the outcome you'd like to have? Not short term, what's the outcome you'd like to have a year from now? So a year from now, I want to weigh this, my body fat, this, my energy level, this, my health and vitality, this. I want to get off of certain medications. I want to feel sexy and alive again. So I want to know what. What those are. But then I want you to take this other sheet, okay? This one right over here. And I want you to write down the obstacles. What obstacles are either in your way or you aren't certain of. We're going to use a lot of logical thinking here instead of an emotional decision to lose weight and keep it off. So you get the obstacles written down here and then I want you to create what we call our counter strategies. What is your plan? Okay. To overcome food addictions. What is your systematic process applied? To overcome food addictions or to disrupt or to regain a proper circadian rhythm, which is your ability for your brain and your hormones to calibrate with the earth's circadian rhythm. Okay. And the rise and setting of the sun that activates certain hormones in your body. Whatever the obstacle is, here's what I can share with you. Whatever your obstacle is, I don't care if it's 2 or 10 or 25 of them. There's a way that we know today for you to have a logical, smart, systematic plan to overcome one of them or 10 of them. Will it take some time? Of course it will. But it's either you're going to invest some time to really commit to being healthy and vibrant and energetic and looking and feeling great and aging younger every year, or you're going to keep going downhill, getting fatter and less self worth and less self esteem. So when you start using, okay, the goop plan, and there's a couple other things I'm going to share with you, and here's how you fill it out. I'm going to show you exactly how to fill it out as well. That's one of the instructions that comes with the free download. Then you're going to start to understand a little bit more of how you can do this right? Lose the weight and fat you deserve, regain your self esteem and self control and start living a life of health. If you don't take a logical, methodical approach, using the best in neuroscience, the best in neuropsychology, the best in understanding biology, then what you're basically saying is, well, I hope and pray this works. You don't have to just hope and pray. I like hope and prayer, but I also like to have a process that makes more sense, that's doable, that's sustainable, that's logical, and will make you feel great because of who you become doing it right. And so if you want access to this thing, I'll give you, you know, all of this stuff. It's, I don't know, about 10, 12 pages. I like to create these little things that's There's a couple of other ways you can keep track of what I'm doing. And if you want to win the game of weight loss once and for all so that you look and feel your best, I can help you do it. And if you want a deeper training on how to retrain your brain and really put this into fast gear when you sign up, on the last page. Hold on a second. On the last page of this document, there's. Oh, yeah, right over here. Hold on. On the last page of the document. Okay. If you want more training, like about an hour, an hour and 15 minutes more training. The training is free. I'll also introduce you to our win the game of weight loss brain training program that is blow your mind. We've helped thousands of people lose weight and keep it off. If that's for you, great. If not, then you'll still learn a lot of stuff and you'll be able to release the weight you hit. If you like this, will you do me a favor? Would you share this? My passion, as you can tell, is I can't stand all the airy, fairy, fluffy bullshit that I see out there. Let's deal with the truth. Let's deal with the real science, let's deal with the real problems that we're having, and then let's come up with a real smart path that anyone can follow that is going to give you the results you want. But more importantly, it's going to give you the ability to sustain the results you want. And what that does is then you start to be in control. You say, well, if I could do this for my health, well, maybe I could do something like this for my relationships, more money, my finances. When you get your mindset right and you learn how to manage your emotions better and you have a plan to follow. Our brain needs what I want to achieve, why I want to achieve it, when am I going to do it and how am I going to do it? When you can activate those four parts of your brain. The logical brain, the emotional brain, the motor cortex, behavioral part of your brain, and the limbic system. When you activate the different parts of your brain now you can basically say, hey, Frankenstein, that left or the right brain part of you that's critical self judging, the little voice that says, okay, don't do it anymore. You don't need to do it anymore. You're not good enough, you're not smart enough. What if you fail? What if it doesn't work? You have to learn how to quiet that inner critic. You've got to activate the Einstein part of your brain that can imagine and see and also also come up with options for how to achieve your goal. Your brain is the most powerful organism in the whole universe. You are a genius, my friend. You have inherent abilities within you that with a little bit of understanding and maybe a little bit of coaching, you can unlock the hidden wisdom and genius within you and achieve your health goals. But then what else do you achieve from that? All right. Hope you enjoyed this. If you enjoy my work, please share it. This is part of my Achieve even More Tuesday morning show right over here. I also do a lot of stuff on Instagram, follow me there. Twitter. I have my Achieve even More private community here on Facebook. Also if you go to Facebook, type in Achieve even more. I do some other training in there as well. So if you enjoy this, please share, follow my work, get involved with some of the stuff that I do, read my books, have some fun with me, and more importantly, achieve the results that you're capable of achieving. That's the biggest win for me is when you take a little bit or a lot of what I teach you and apply it and you win. There's nothing that makes me happier than what I hear of people winning. Yesterday I was talking with a new private client who is 30 years old now. Six years ago, he bought one of my programs and in six years he built a company from scratch, a trucking company, to $27 million a year. And he said to me, you know, I had to thank you because I was lost. I had no idea what to do. And I just followed your process. So have a great day, give yourself a big hug, be grateful, be in a state of gratitude as much as you can. And just remember, you can do whatever set your mind to do. And when you follow the right process, then it becomes easier. Not easy, but easier. Have an awesome day and thank you in advance for sharing it. If you like this, share it and hit the like or the love button. And as you do that, I will say hello to a few of you. Cheryl. Hi there, Cheryl. Always great to see you. Cheryl Barber Parker. You are awesome too, my dear. Hi there, Millie. Hi there. Mara Diego from Buenos Aires. Hello there, my friend. Hi, Rossi. Hi there, Patricia. Deborah Barton, Jolanda, Debbie Sweetser from Alaska. Hey there, Debbie. Nice to have you on. Shirlene. Hello, hello, hello. Let me see, we got Lori Mayo Chatel. Hello. Susie Fordyce. Fordyce. Awesome, awesome, awesome. Yes. It's time, Susie, for you to regain your life. Hey there, Tanya Allen. Nice to see you on, I guess I see you're on. Hey there, Aaron. BJ but listen, the other thing I want to just leave you with is this. You're either going to be interested in achieving your health goals and life goals or you're going to be committed. And many of you have heard me tell the story a million times. I'm going to tell them a million more. When you're interested, you do what's convenient, you do what's easy and you say, I'll do it later. When you're committed, you do whatever it takes. So if you're not committed to your health, one of my friends, Dr. Barnett Meltzer, said either you're going to pay. No, he says either you're going to make time for your health or your illness will make time for you. And I was with one of my friends the other day and I said, listen, everybody is on a train and on a certain track. The question I want to ask you is if you were to think of your, let's say, just health, ok, if you were on a health train right now, are you on the right train, on the right track, going in the right direction, or are you on the wrong train, on the wrong track, going in the wrong direction? Are you moving towards greater and greater health and vitality and energy and abilities, or are you moving away from that where you're getting either heavier, more lethargic, less energy and less abilities to do what you, you want to do as you get older? There isn't an in between, right? It is one way or the other. So you want to get healthy, Let me help you do it. Pick up the manual, watch the video training, see if some of our programs might be for you and let's rock and roll and be healthy together. Have an awesome day and thank you and thanks for sharing this video with your tribe. Hi there, Dana. And edit or edit. Bye now.
