Stop Self Sabotaging! Use Your Brain To Create Your Ideal Identity

John Assaraf breaks down procrastination as self-sabotage rooted in three things: fear of failure or judgment, a self-image that makes your goals feel impossible, and limiting beliefs about what you're capable of. Changing these subconscious patterns removes the blocks between you and action.

When you don't take action, you're procrastinating. That in itself is a behavior, right? In essence, it's a form of self sabotage where you have a vision, you have a goal, you want it, but you still don't take action on it. Or you take a little bit of action and then you stop. Hey, I hope you're having a great day. Have you ever considered that procrastination a behavior when you choose, either by your own decision making or because of automatic decision making patterns, not to take action on either a goal that you have, a business achievement you want to create, writing a book, or anything that you have the goal or vision or dream to achieve. When you don't take action and you're procrastinating, that in itself is, is a behavior, right? In essence, it's a form of self sabotage where you have a vision, you have a goal, you want it, but you still don't take action on it, or you take a little bit of action and then you stop. The question is why? Why do we procrastinate? Why do we self sabotage? And the answer must be something in your brain, right? And the obvious solution is to find out, well, what's triggering procrastination, what's triggering the self sabotaging behavior? And usually it's going to come down to one of three things. All right, Number one is fear. Fear of not doing it well enough, fear of being judged, fear of being embarrassed, the work that you've done, fear of failing. Those are, you know, just a few of the fears that may be holding you back. The other thing that it could be is that the achievement of the goal that you have, the thing that you want maybe just outside of your hidden self image. And so when your hidden self image sees that the thing that you want is bigger than your current comfort zone, your current comfort is all based on your hidden self image, then you're going to procrastinate and self sabotage. These are just automatic circuits and mechanisms in your brain. And then there's, you know, the third one that everybody knows about and that's limiting beliefs is we could have limited beliefs that, you know, we're not smart enough, we don't have the skill, we're too young or too old. And so any one of those three things, limiting beliefs, fears or self image challenges that are hidden in the subconscious mind is really what you have to go to work at to change those. And when you change those, you're in essence removing the obstacles that are impeding you from actually taking inspired action. Hey, this is John.
