Super Smoothie Recipe

John Assaraf presents a personal "super smoothie" recipe aimed at improving mental focus, energy, and body composition. He describes base liquids (unsweetened almond or hemp milk, 12–16 oz), leafy greens, mixed berries, 1–2 scoops of plant-based protein (prefers Vega 1), and additional supplements (maca, Amazing Greens, hemp seed, Beyond Fiber, cacao, chia seeds, avocado oil, coconut butter, Udo's Choice). He notes personal metrics (6'2", ~200 lb) and aims for 70–100 g protein/day; the smoothie purportedly provides sustained energy for 4–5 hours and supports focus and recovery. He also mentions traveling with powdered components.

Hey, it's John. And one of the things I wanted to share with you is something that's been really an amazing help to my mental focus, my clarity, my energy level, and my ability to release 35 pounds of fat and gain muscle. Over the last several years, I've really made a commitment to my health. And one of the things that's really helped me is a little concoction that I have over here. It's my super duper smoothie. And you will see the end result over here. And what I do to get this end result, which is how I start almost every morning, regardless of whether I'm at home or traveling, is I start with some almond milk that's unsweetened, zero sugar, and about 45 calories for every eight ounces. And so I'll have somewhere between 12 and 16 ounces in my smoothie. And I may mix it up with hemp milk or almond milk or anything that's one of the plant based or nut based seeds. And what I add to it is a plant based protein. And the one that I like to use is called Vega 1. And what I did for you is I had my assistant Kim go into my pantry over there and take pictures of everything that I put into my smoothie in the different combinations. And so if you want access to this, just, you know, look below on this page somewhere and I'll give this to you, but I'm going to go through it with you and then you can go make your own smoothie. So I start off with my almond milk and then I have some amazing different leafy greens, whether it's kale or spinach or arugula, which I love. And I put a little bit inside the smoothie so I have some really good fiber and antioxidants. I use beautiful blueberries and mmm, so, so, so good. High in antioxidant, great flavor. I happen to like blackberries as well as raspberries, so I use raspberries also. And then once I put that in here, I then put one to two scoops of protein, depending on how many calories I want, how much protein I want. And I like to get somewhere around 70 to 100 grams of protein a day for my height and weight, which is about 6 foot 2, 200 pounds. I put macaw, which is a Peruvian or South American antioxidant powder in there for energy and vitality. And they say it's really good for your libido. Also, I take a beautiful little scoop of greens that are already blended and I Love a company called Amazing Greens. And I have a chocolate flavored one that is so good, my kids actually even like it. And then I have this tray over here with four different items in here that I put in my smoothie. One is hemp seed. And hemp is just a really great protein source. I also have two types of, actually a few different types of fiber. This product is called Beyond Fiber and it's got soluble fiber and non soluble fiber, which is really good for your digestion. It's really good for getting everything through the system, if you know what I mean. I also have some cacao over here. So I like either the powdered cacao or I like the chunky cacao. I like crunchy. And then I have chia seeds and these swell up. And I happen to love the effect of chia seeds in the omega 3 and the omega 6 fatty acids. But I also couple all this with a couple different things. A teaspoon of avocado oil. This is one of my favorites. This is coconut butter, not coconut oil. It's coconut butter low in sugar. The flavor is so good. I put about a tablespoon in there. And then this one. This is called Udo's Choice. And this is a Omega 3, 6 and 9 plant based blend of oils that's really, really great for cognitive function and overall health. So I put all of that in here. I may put in some ice and then I just blend it. I end up with a great, amazing shake that lasts me about four to five hours. I get an incredible, you know, focused mind. My body feels like I put the best feel fuel in the world. And with all of this combination so that my cells are oxygenated, my cells are rejuvenated, I've got the fruits and the vegetables. That has been really a great combination to give me immediate energy and sustained energy because of the fiber and the oil. So this is what I drink just about every day. No matter where I travel in the world, I package up any of the powders with me. And then wherever I am, I can order, you know, any of the other concoctions or bring them in bags and travel with me. So I hope you like this. I want you to be healthy. I want you to have lots of energy. And that way we can do lots of things together over the next 10 years. Bye now.
