Hey, this is John Assraf, CEO of NeuroGym. And in today's little mini video, I want to talk with you about what I believe is one of the most fatal mistakes that people make around achieving their health goals, wealth goals, their business goals, their relationship goals, their spiritual goals, their charitable goals, their fun and experience goals. And here is what the mistake is. They really don't know how to set goals properly. Now, let me explain to you what I mean. Many years ago, when I was in my 19 or 20 years old, somewhere around that time frame, one of my mentors asked me, what is it that I would like my life to look like? And I go, what do you mean? He says, well, what kind of home would you like? What kind of charitable contributions would you like to make? What kind of trips would you like to take? What kind of car would you like to drive? What kind of clothes would you like to wear? What kind of relationship would you want to have? And I was like, well, I'm really not certain about that. He says, well, rule number one is if you don't have clarity on what it is that you want, how is it that you expect your brain to. To help you do what you need to do to achieve it? And so I said, okay, well, what should I do? He says, the first thing you've got to do is set some goals. But I don't want you to set goals the way everybody else in the world sets goals. And I said, well, how does everybody else in the world set goals? And he said to me something that was so profound, it transformed, changed my life forever when I was 19 years old. Here's what he said to me. When most people set goals, they look at their current circumstances, and it then controls their thinking. So they look at their education, they look at their bank account, they look at their body, they look at their knowledge, they look at their skills, and they set goals based on the current circumstances. And he said to me, and I believe now that your current circumstances and current results are nothing more than a reflection or an effect of what has happened in the past. So, in essence, your current results are history. He said, what I want you to do is I want you to set goals that you don't have any idea how to achieve yet. You don't have any idea what skills you need yet. You don't have any idea what knowledge or people or tools or resources you need yet. He said, I want you to set goals based on this one criteria. You ready? The criteria was this. What do you want to trade your life for, wow, what do you want to trade your life for? Well, up until that time, I didn't really think that my life was worth very much. I had some low self esteem, I didn't think I was smart enough, I didn't think I was good enough. And what he said to me, when he said to me, you know, what do you want to trade your life for? I really didn't think that I could set really big goals. And what he told me was this. He said, write down goals that are worthy of your life. Instead of asking yourself, is your life worthy of your goals? Write down goals that you feel are worthy of your very essence and your life. He says, once you do that, then go to a higher level of thinking. Ask yourself, who do I need to become in order to achieve those goals? What do I need to learn? What do I need to read? Who do I need to connect with? What skills do I need to upgrade? What knowledge do I need to assemble so that I could fill in the gap between who I felt I was and who I needed to become in order to be worthy, able of achieving those goals? And once I set those goals and I wrote out the beliefs that I needed to achieve those goals, the skills that I needed to upgrade in order to achieve those goals, the knowledge, the people, the tools and the resources started to magically appear. And what I learned many, many years ago was that our brain, your brain, my brain is like a radio station. And when you tune in the radio station to a certain music station that you love, that music comes out of the speakers. And if you turn the dial to another station, maybe rock and roll or classical or jazz or punk rock for that matter, whatever station you tune into is what comes out and you hear. And so what he said to me when he gave me that analogy was that when you set your goals and you focus on those goals, you are taking the most powerful receiver in the world, your brain and transporter, the emitter of thought, back out into the universe. And that combination of receiving and sending information that resonates with your goals that you don't yet know how to achieve will start to cause an attraction factor with other people, tools, resources that are required in order to achieve those goals. And what I didn't know then, that I know now was basically this. He was helping me create resonance within myself first for the goals and dreams that I wanted to achieve. And in doing that, I started to think differently. I started to read different things, I started to hang out with different people, and slowly but surely I start to upgrade my knowledge and my skills and my expectations. And in doing that, I was able to get healthier, augment my income, get into relationships of my dreams, build businesses. I've been able to use this one little technique and tool to get my brain to operate efficiently, to get all of my brain, body and emotions and spirit aligned, to achieve goals that I didn't know how to achieve. So the mistake that most people make is they set goals that they think they can achieve and sometimes they add a little bit of extra, you know, goal setting for risk. And I'm saying set goals you don't know how to achieve and then vibrate, resonate, rise to the occasion of who you need to become to achieve your goals and dreams. And what I can promise you, even though that may sound scary, even though you may not understand how it works yet, everybody starts off as a clumsy beginner. That maybe goes from being unconsciously incompetent to being consciously competent. That then you move into what we call is unconscious competence. And that's when you just are able to achieve one goal after another. So I hope you've enjoyed this. I hope you've learned a couple of good lessons in this little video.
