The Critical 1st Step to Achieving Any Goal

John Assaraf says the first step to any goal is clarity: write down exactly what you want in health, finances, relationships, business, and other areas. His mentor Alan Brown taught him to write goals by hand, laminate them, and read them aloud daily to engage both conscious and unconscious mind. The brain's unconscious drives action, not the conscious part.

Hey, this is John. And today I want to discuss something with you that I know is going to have an impact on your success. And that is the critical first step to achieve any goal that you have. And that critical first step is gaining clarity. And let me divert for just a second and share a bold statement with you that I truly believe if you haven't yet achieved some of your life's goals and dreams, the big ones, okay. Or you haven't seen the amount of progress that you'd like to make, whether it's this year or in your life, I'm going to go on to say, and this is my big bold statement, it's probably not your fault. I'll explain why. In this video I'd like to share with you a little short story that changed my life and pretty much guaranteed my life success and financial success and health success. And I know that it can guarantee years when you learn it and you apply it. Now in the last video I shared with you that I used to watch Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous when I was younger with my sister and brother and mother and father. And that was the beginning of me wanting to become a millionaire, even though I had no idea how to do that. Now at that time, my father was a cab driver who loved to go to the horse races at the end of each day and sometimes even in the middle of the day. And unfortunately for my mom and for me and my brother and sister, he would blow all the money that he made driving a cab. And as you can imagine, my hard working mom who worked at the local department store sewing all day long used to get so mad at him. And that was the cause of many verbal fights between them in our home later on. They did end up getting divorced after the kids were gone, but this was a tension spot in our lives and it was also because of these fights about the lack of money due to my father's gambling that caused me as a young man to tell myself to think and to feel that I would never ever, ever allow that to happen in my life. And I made a commitment to myself that I would do whatever it takes to always have more than enough for myself and my family when I had one. As you may recall from the last video, I was introduced to a wonderful man, Alan Brown, who was successful in every area of his life, including being a millionaire. And he agreed to become my first mentor. And what he taught me changed my life for the better as I hope to change yours. Now let me begin with a couple of simple lessons he taught me that will begin our journey together. Number one. Allen Brown taught me the importance of setting very specific goals in each area of my life. And I know that you've probably heard this before, but what he taught me me to do with my goals, once I made them and wrote them down, made all the difference in the world. And I'll share that with you in just a minute. He also taught me that there were two parts of my brain that were responsible for achieving my goals. The first part was my conscious mind and it was used to choose what I wanted to achieve. And the second part was my unconscious mind and it was responsible for, for getting me to take action to achieve my goals. Now, since I learned very early on in my life to use both conscious and unconscious parts of my brain, my results started to skyrocket. And I've written two New York Times best selling books, I've been in eight movies, I've traveled the world on yachts and have lived a pretty nice lifestyle. And I'm sharing this with you because I know what's possible when you learn how to use both parts of your brain, okay, in synchronicity. And if you think of your brain in terms of a flea and an elephant for just a moment, you'll agree that although the flea can make demands and commands like your conscious mind can, the elephant is just like your unconscious mind and it is really in charge and decides where to go and, and decides what it wants to do. So for today's lesson, I want you to really get back to dreaming again and to get back to focusing on what you really want to have and what you really want to achieve and who you really want to become. And that is totally different than thinking about and dreaming, okay, of what you don't want to achieve. Every single day, you're trading your life for what you're doing and for what you're achieving. And I want to help you trade your life for the biggest, most wonderful things that you will feel proud of and excited about that will give your life the purpose and meaning that we all want. For now, don't do what most people do, and that's worrying about how you will achieve it. The most important part, when you understand the neuroscience, which I'll share with you in a moment, is that everything starts with clarity of what you want to achieve. So when John F. Kennedy wanted to send a rocket to the moon, okay, with a human on it, he didn't know how. When Bill Gates decided that he wanted a computer on every desk in every home, he didn't know how to do it yet. When Steve Jobs wanted to put a thousand songs in your pocket so you can listen to any music you want at any moment, he didn't know exactly how to achieve it first, but he had a clear vision. They all had a clear vision on what they wanted to achieve. And so for this lesson, I want you to start with getting clear on exactly what is it that you would love to achieve in the areas of health? What about your financial wealth and net worth? What about the relationships that you want to have or that you do have? What would they be like if they were really amazing? What about business? What about spiritual goals? What about charity? What about the fun and experiences you want to have? What do you want to achieve in the form of contribution to to your neighborhood, to your family, to mankind? What books or courses do you want to complete that will help you become the person that you want to become? The reason I want to have you do this inner size, focusing on the clarity is because once you do that, you're going to get your brain to work for you. Now, do you remember I shared with you that Allen Brown had me do something unique that really helped me achieve my goals once I wrote them down? Here's what he did. In addition to making sure that all of my goals were clear and precise with dates of when I would achieve them by, every day he had me read them because I wrote them down by hand and then I laminated them. And every day he had me run my fingers along the words. And the reason he did that was so that while I was seeing it, while I was reading it and hearing myself, because I'd read them out loud, I would also be using my hand, my right hand and left hand to send a signal to my brain every single day, which reinforced the neural patterns in my brain. And the big reason that he did that was because he wanted me to get fully associated with the goals and dreams that I wanted to achieve. And I'll explain more about the science behind this little trick that very few people know in the next video. But what I want you to do is get the goals written before the next video. Just take 10 minutes and write them down. Because in the next video I'm going to discuss the few critical brain based factors that have stopped you dead in the tracks before and sabotage your success. And chances are they've sabotaged your goal achievement plans in the past. And when that happens to most people, they start wondering whether they're good enough or smart enough or deserving enough. And if they start to think too much about that, they start to create doubts and fears and anxieties. So get clear on your goals, and what I'd love you to do is to be able to start working together a little bit. Why don't you share one of your top goals with me down below and then click on the share button so we can spread the love around and get other people involved in this. So look out for my next video in the next couple days. For today, get one or two or three goals written down clearly and precisely. Share one of them with me, click on the Share button, and I'll send you another video in the next couple of days to help you achieve your goals faster and easier than ever before so you can have it all.
