Ways to Build a Stronger Business in a Post-Covid World

John Assaraf presents a live session (part of a short series) giving practical advice for small business owners to strengthen and grow in the post-Covid environment. He emphasizes (1) hyper-targeted marketing using a 5/15/80 model—focus on the 5% who want/need your offering now and the 15% who can be educated; (2) track core KPIs—primarily leads and conversion rates—to create predictability and identify leverage points; (3) play the right role in your business and delegate or barter for tasks you are not strong at; and (4) focus on the critical few activities that move revenue rather than many trivial tasks. He promotes a free two-hour training on building a six- or seven-figure business.

To make sure that you are growing your business in a post Covid world right now. We know Covid has affected a lot of business owners. And did Covid affect your business? We're going to be talking about some ways that you can, I guess, covidize your business. All right, if you can hear me and see me, just let me know. Give me a thumbs up with a little love button. Let me know what kind of business you have. All right, I'm doing a session today on some tips, tools and techniques to solidify your positioning in the marketplace now so that regardless of what happens, you can grow your business. So tell me where you're from. Where are you from? And I'm going live on a couple of different channels right now. And let me get my glasses on so I can see some of the names here. Hey there. Jamie Morales. How are you? Hey. Hey, Sasan. Sasan, I'm going to see you a little bit later. Right. Andreas. Sharon. Hello. So question for you. How do you protect your business in a post Covid era? A lot of businesses went under. About 25, 30% of businesses are closed for good now because of what's happened in the last year. 25 to 30%. Can you imagine the families at that that's affected, the, the workers, the cash flow, the stores? There's a lot of companies that, that went out of business. So what do you do if you want to start a business now, but what do you do if you really want to protect your business? There are a couple things that not a lot of people are talking about. But business is like sports, isn't it? It's survival of the fittest, the strongest, the more adaptable. And a lot of people, even when Covid hit back in January, February of last year, they did not adapt or change fast enough. They didn't scale down. Everybody wants to scale up, but a lot of people didn't scale down, whether it's their manpower, whether it's their expenses. And so a question for you is what are you doing to position your company in 2021? Like, what are you doing to position your company in 2021? So give me one technique. Type in the chat, one thing that you're doing all right, to position your company in 2021. I'm going to share with you some of the things that we are doing at my company. And this is for business owners only. And it's the I'm getting people ready for my free training tomorrow that many of you have already signed up for. And I promised you I would Do a session today before tomorrow's free two hour training on how to build a six or seven figure a year business. And my team put a link up in Instagram, in my bio and also on the different social media channels I've been on for the last couple of days. So if you want to join the training, you're more than welcome to tomorrow. But I promised everybody I would do a training today as well. So what are you doing right now? Okay. To position yourself to win in business in 2021, right. We have to be here in the times. Hey, Doron, you own a real estate company in Israel. So real estate's booming in the United States and I know in Israel as well. Right. So here is something that is critical. I'm working with every one of my clients on this right now. Okay? So there's four things that you have to know in business, right? I don't care whether you're a real estate agent. I don't care if you're an engineering company. I don't care if you're a coach or consultant. I don't care if you're selling, you know, little plastic rocket ships. It doesn't make a difference. One of the things that we're doing right now is we're helping every one of our clients identify who are or who is the. What we call as the ideal client profile that wants or needs what they have right now. So in the old days of marketing. I'm going get a pen. Hold on one second. Hold on one second. Andrea, I need a marker. In the old days of marketing, when we used to do marketing, we would try and get as wide of a net as possible, Right? As wide of a net as possible. But let me show you something. I'm going to show you a little chart that I use. I'm going to write down on this little chart. 5, 15, 80. All right, I'm going to show this to you. Just let me know if you can. If you can see this. Can you see this? 5, 15 and 80. When we used to do marketing in the past, you would do general marketing, hoping to get somebody, you know, into your orbit. But right now, with people being so stressed out, they're paying attention to so many different things, that if you just focus on the 5% of the people who want or need what you have right now, and you focus on the 15% that may have an interest, and you create marketing and branding and positioning for these 5 and 15 only, not only will you save the money of going after people that are not even interested, but you also are not in the convincing business. So when you take a look at your product or your service right now, who is your 5% that wants and needs what you have right now? Then who's the 15% that with a little bit of education, you can move them into the 5% over a period of time? So many people are trying to focus on marketing their products or services to everybody that they're getting too dry or they're getting too washed out. And so when we're talking about marketing, I was teaching last week a business breakthrough challenge. Some of you were in it and I was talking about how our brains are working right now. So when we're in a high state of stress, worry, anxiety, whether it's about our jobs, about cash flow, about COVID or anything like that, our brain is hyper focused on the things that we need to solve our problems and our pains and our fears and our frustrations. And so if your marketing is not specific enough, then you are diffusing your energy. But more importantly, you're not going to get somebody's attention to pay attention to your product or service. So in your marketing, how can you be very, very, very, very targeted with specific products or services that meet very specific needs right now? Does that make sense? Does that make sense? The more specific you are, the easier it is to get somebody's brain to pay attention. That's the neuromarketing and neuro selling that I teach. And so what happens, what happens in the marketplace is if you think about this, I mean, pay attention to for just a moment, we have 50,000 of our own thoughts every day. Thought, thought, thought, thought, thought, thought, thought, right? We also have social media, Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Twitter, TikTok. Every one of the social media challenge people are on there exchanging messages. Radio, television, billboards, there's an incoming flood of messages as well as there's our own messages in our own head that are just popping like popcorn in our brain. So what does our brain do? It actually deletes and distorts 99% of all of the incoming information. And so if you really want to get people's attention in what is a post Covid era in the United States, not around the world, in India. It's like they're deep in Covid right now. Please, everybody, say a few prayers today, you know, for our brothers and sisters in India and anywhere else in the world that is being ravaged by Covid. So please say some prayers, some energy and some healing words and actions if you can. But when we Are talking about positioning your company again. I'm doing a session today that I promised all of you, if you were on yesterday and the day before, I would do the next one today before tomorrow's training. When we are dealing with creating the positioning for your company or product or service, it doesn't matter what you're selling, whether it's tiles or coaching, it doesn't make a difference. You. You have to clear through the clutter of all the noise right now. And the only way to clear through the clutter with all the noise right now is by being a laser. Okay? For these, 5% of the people actually want or need what you have right now. Why? Because our brains are always paying attention to the things that are gonna move us away from any pain or discomfort first before it seeks to gain pleasure. So we have to be even more targeted. So if you noticed, you know, when I came on today, you know, I said, this is for business owners, specifically small business owners who have a business that wants to grow. This isn't about people who want to learn how to cut diamonds. So very, very specific immediately lets people know, am I in the right place? Should I even pay attention? The greatest commodity right now, and the hardest thing to get is people's attention because they are flooded, all right? Flooded with information that's coming into their consciousness. So if you don't know how to get their attention, you certainly can't move them along to know more about your products or services and how it could help them. Does that make sense? So every one of my clients right now, I was just on with a private client right now saying, okay, let's build very, very specific marketing for the three different avatars that they have. And an avatar is a person. So, for example, they are in the network marketing business, and they go after companies that need training. They go after people who are new in network marketing that need training, and they go after the leaders who want to help their downline increase their revenues and profits. So we started to work on what's the message for the companies, which is going to be different than the message for somebody who's new. Does that make sense? Why? Because the companies, you know, the people working in the companies, they're focusing on eliminating the things that are challenging them, which is different than the challenges that are facing somebody, for example, who's new in network marketing. Right? So an avatar is a person. It could be a company as well. Holly, nice to see you. Holly, does that make sense? So instead of being general sunlight, I want you to focus like a Laser on exactly who you're going after. So you're going to go after this person or people or company right here. You're going to then create some marketing for that next layer and you're going to leave the 80% of the people on. Hi there. Kerry Koenig. Nice to see you all. Hi, Stacy Frank and hi there. Let me see who else you want me to say hello to you on Instagram. Does that make sense? So focus versus general, you know, general marketing. That. That's part number one. Part number two is every single business. Would you agree? Hi, Lou Taylor. Every single business there's. Do you know what a key performance indicator is? A key performance indicator is. Does anybody know what a key performance indicator is? What's a key performance indicator? Anybody know? If you know, type in the answer. What's a key performance indicator? High. Astrid Schiller, nice to have you on. And I'm doing my usual Tuesday morning session and today is all about business growth. If you're a small business owner. Right. If you're a small business owner, entrepreneur, CEO of me.com. all right. Hey, Terrence, nice to have you on. So, Lee, a key performance indicator. Carrie, It's a metric to evaluate success. A key performance indicator. So let me give you an example. Do you think the number of people who come to your website is a key performance indicator of how much revenue you might be able to make? Right. So do you think that the number of people that go to your website to look at your products or services, do you think that might be an indicator of how much money you might be able to make? Right. So, Laura, most important tasks. It's not tasks. Right. So a key performance indicator is something that helps you measure the success. Okay. Of any chain of action. So, for example, if you have 100 people land on your website, that's a key performance indicator of what? How well, maybe some of your marketing is working or not working. If people end up on your website but don't buy your product or service, is a key performance indicator. Important to know. How many people do you need to get to your website and in order to make, let's say, money? If you're offering something online or if somebody lands on your website and you're asking them to call you for an appointment or to book an appointment on a calendar that you have? Right. So one of the things that very few people are focusing on, they're busy doing things, but they're not focusing on what are the key performance indicators that can create predictability in my business. Right. So what are the key things that will predict whether I make money and help more people? So, number one, for every business, pay close attention. Because if you have a business and you don't do this, I guarantee you, you are not going to be making a lot of money, you're not going to be able to do the things that you want to do, and you're not going to be able to maybe live the lifestyle you want if you're relying on your business to help you live the lifestyle of your dreams and do the things you want to do. So the number one thing, assuming you have a product or a service, assuming you have a product or service, you want to help people. So assuming that you have a product or a service, the number one thing you need to focus on is how am I going to get prospects or leads or people to look at my, whether it's my, you know, my mask, my, my pen, my Rubik's Cube, or the brain that I want to sell, how am I going to get people to that? Right? So, so a key performance indicator is how many leads am I going to get, Right? Because leads means people are looking at your product, service, whether it's in a store or online or face to face. A number two key performance indicator is what are my conversions? If 100 people see my product or service, how many actually buy? If 100 people see your product or service as a business owner, whether they come into your store or they come into your online store, or you talk to them face to face or they go to your website. If a hundred people get in front of your product or service, are three people buying? Is one person buying? Is 10? Are 10 people buying now? Why is it important to know the number of leads and the number of conversions? And the answer is, well, sometimes you don't need more leads. Sometimes you need a better process for converting people who see your products or services into paying customers. So sometimes, you know, if you just double the conversion, you double your income. If you double the conversion, you then you double your income, okay? Assuming all things are equal. So if you have a business, I don't care if you take, you know, just a sheet of paper or your cell phone or a computer. If you don't know how many leads, prospects people came to see what you have every day, every week, every month, you're going to miss out on an enormous amount of intelligence that can help you get better. Because if you just focus on more leads, a lot of times your income goes up. And then if you focus on, well, how do I Get more people who see my product or services to buy my product or services. Income goes up whenever I go into companies. I've seen, I've worked with over 10,000 small business owners. One or two out of a hundred can tell me those numbers. One or two out of a hundred could tell me, here's how many leads we got today or this week, here's how many we converted. A lot of people said, teach me, you know, teach me how to sell more. I said, well, let's teach you how to get more leads and let's teach you how to have better offers and conversions and you'll make more money, right? So if, if 100 people are looking at your product or services and to buy and you can move that to four, your energy should be invested on how do I convert from 2 to 4 or from 2 to 6 or from 2 to 8. Does that make sense? Fundamentally, it's really simple stuff that very few people do. There's something called the little hinges that swing the big doors, right? We don't need big hinges to swing big doors. We need little hinges to swing big, big doors. These are called leverage points. So instead of focusing on so many things, why not focus on the few things that actually are going to give you the biggest results, right? So why not focus, as I mentioned before, on finding the 5% who want and need what you have to offer instead of trying to focus on the 80% that you have to be in the convincing business? Get out of the convincing business. People don't pay attention. Their brains do not pay attention to stuff that they don't want or need or have an interest in. So stop talking to these people and certainly stop trying to convert and convince those people, all right? You're wasting your time, your energy, your money. So focus. This is what I call focusing on the critical few instead of the trivial many. Focusing on the critical few instead of the trivial many. And for those of you that just joined me, I'm doing this as a part of a series training. I did some training yesterday and the day before and then tomorrow I'm doing a two hour training on how to build a six or seven figure a year business. I'll give you a whole bunch of things to think about, to learn and to do. If you want to build at least $100,000 a year business or a million dollar a year business, all right? And my team will put up a link, it's in my bio on Instagram and it'll be in a link in the chat over here on several of the other social media channels that I'm streaming from right now. And it's free. I'm just gonna do it for free. I do free sessions every week. Of course I have paid programs, you all know that. I've got best selling books and programs and you know that. But this is free. I want to help. I want to help. 10,000 business owners this year hit at least $100,000 in revenue and many up to a million. So if you want some free training, join me for this free training tomorrow. All right? So focusing on the critical few versus the trivial many. So another critical piece that you have to ask yourself is this. What position are you supposed to play in your business? Imagine if your business was a sports team. Okay, what do we know about a sports team? Well, a sports team has offensive players, they have defensive players, they have left right quarterbacks, centers, right wing, left wing, you know, goalies, etc. Do you know what position you are supposed to be playing? Do you know what position you are supposed to be playing? Just so you know, you're not supposed to be playing every position, you're not supposed to be playing every position. But okay, you are in most cases playing too many positions that you're not good at. So imagine if somebody asked you to perform brain surgery right now, even though you've studied the brain, if you haven't performed brain surgery and that's not your specialty, you may not be best suited to do brain surgery, right? So what position are you supposed to be playing? So let me give you some positions to consider. Are you the head of marketing? Are you the salesperson? Are you the manager? Are you the visionary? Are you, are you the person that puts together all the systems and processes so that everything runs smoothly? Are you the technologist? Are you the client service rep? Like which position are you supposed to be playing? And there are people that are really good, you know, at marketing is branding their company, getting leads, making offers. There's certain people are really good at selling, helping other, you know, people do it. There are certain people are good at programming websites. I'm not that person. I'm terrible at most of those things, right? So the first thing that you have to understand if you have a business, I don't care if you're one person or three people or five, what is it that you play at? What is it that you love to do that you play at? Now what if your job is to play at what you love and do more of that? And then what if your job as the CEO, the entrepreneur of Your own business is to find out how you can get all those other things done by people who play at those things. I learned many, many years ago to hire people who play at things I have to work at, hire people who play at things I have to work at. I know some of you are saying, but John, I don't have the money to hire people. I said, okay, barter with people who play at things you have to work at. Barter. I'll do this for you or I'll give you this. You do that for me. Partner with people who play at things you have to work at. Defer payment, pay them later based on profits. Not everybody needs money right now. Some people want to participate and be part of your vision and your goals. And so your job is to be resourceful in the absence of resources. Did you get that? Your job is to be resourceful in the absence of resources. You cannot allow your present circumstances to control your thinking. You have a hundred billion dollar brain that can work for you if you use it really, really well. But if you're saying, I can't because I can't hire somebody, I can't find somebody to do that, I don't know how to do that. As soon as you use those language patterns, your brain says, okay, let's make that your reality, right? So those are just a couple of things, you know, that I want you to consider is as I mentioned earlier, all of your marketing should be focused on the 5% who want, need what you have right now, and then the 15% that you could educate into there. You need to be focusing on what role you should be playing and figuring out the rest. And you should be focusing on your key performance indicators, two of which are generating more leads, qualified leads, and creating a process offers that I call it irresistible for people to be able to say yes to you. So if you can go from 2 out of 100 to yes to 4 out of 100, you've just increased your business by 100%. If you go from 2 to 8, okay, that's an exponential growth curve. So you have to focus on the critical few instead of the trivial many. And in business, let me, let me show you something. There are so many things to do, right? It's like, it's like solving a Rubik's cube. There's so many different things to do, right? I love Rubik's cubes, right? There's so many different things to do. But if you focused on the simple stuff first, then you can move, you know, from all the basics and simple stuff to the more complex to the more complex after. But if you don't get the fundamentals right, you will never get the complex stuff right. Does that help? So there's your little session for today. I promised you all I'd come back today and do this before tomorrow's free two hour training. If you like what I'm sharing with you, if you want to grow your business, I'll do a two hour training for free tomorrow. I'll also show you how you can go deeper if you're committed to your business growth. And my team will put up a link on social media, my team will put up a link on Instagram in my bio. If you like this, share it with others. If you don't. Thanks for joining me today. Anyway, have an awesome, epic day. I want you to remember you have a hundred billion dollar brain. You have to learn how to use it better. You need to learn how to be aware, how to focus on the right things in the right order at the right time so that you can achieve success faster and easier than ever before. Everything you want to achieve has already been achieved for the most part. So why not just learn the right things to do? So you'd have to figure it out. Have a great day. I appreciate you and thank you for sharing this. If you choose to. I'll see you many of you tomorrow on the training. And the training tomorrow is how to build a six or seven figure a year business that gives you predictable leads and revenues and profits so you can live an amazing lifestyle. Bye. How about a high five? Boom. Boom boom boom. Have a great day. Appreciate you.
