Why Worrying is a Wasted Emotion

John Assaraf and JR Badian argue that worrying accomplishes nothing. Instead, use "Take Six" (six deep breaths), "AYA" (notice what you're feeling, decide what you want, take one action), and "Flip the Switch" to shift from worry to either accepting what you can't change or solving what you can.

Hey, I hope you're having an awesome day. I was just in a discussion with a friend of mine who works with us, JR Badian, and he's our senior VP of marketing and sales. And we were talking about a technology issue that we have. And he said to me, john, don't worry about it. And I said, JR, I don't worry about it. I don't very often worry. And he said to me, says, what do you mean you don't very often worry? I said, well, worrying is a useless emotion. And if worrying is a useless emotion, why engage in it? He says, what do you mean? I don't understand. I said, well, if you can focus on how to solve whatever the problem is or the issue is, and you want to focus all of your attention on that, then that's where you have to direct your focus and attention. He said, if there's nothing you can do. I said, if there's nothing you can do, then focus all your attention on acceptance. Either way, you win. Because worrying, taking the energy and the focus, you have the ability to channel right now and place it where you want it. So when you worry, you're thinking about and allowing what might happen in half an hour or an hour or a day or a week or a month, what might happen to control your energy and your focus and your attention units. And so why not quickly discover, is this something that is real or imagined? That's number one. Is it something that I'm projecting from my memory bank onto the future and how it may impact me negatively, whether it's emotionally, physically, financially, spiritually, whatever the case might be. And so if you catch yourself worrying, number one, take six. That's the first inner size we teach. Take six. Six deep breaths, in and out in a rhythmic pattern, just like the ebb and flow of the ocean rhythms. Six deep breaths. Number one is how you calm the circuits from stress and fear to relax and respond. That's number one. Number two, Aya. Awareness. What am I thinking? What are my feelings? What are my sensations? How am I behaving with this worry? That's the A awareness. The I bing is for intention. What do I want? And then focus your attention on your intention. Intention. I want to let go of the worry. I want to let go of the fear. And then A is action. One action away from worrying, one action away from the fear. So you have inner size number one, which is take six. Calm the circuits. Number two, Aya. And then number three is called flip the switch. You flip the switch from doubt and fear and worry. And stress and anxiety to calmness and responding and taking all of your energy. And either you accept it if you can't change it, or you do everything you can to make sure that whatever it is that you are worrying about that has a potential negative consequence or result, you. You make sure that you do everything to make the opposite a reality. There is a great little inner size strategy stack for you.
