Your Internal GPS System

John Assaraf presents a short motivational talk describing an "internal GPS system"—a subconscious/intuitive mechanism that helps people navigate toward goals when those goals are clearly set and repeatedly focused on. He advises embedding goals into the subconscious, doing conscious work (research, learning, networking), then following intuition and hunches as guidance from this internal system.

Hey, friends, it's John Astroff, New York Times best selling author of Having it all and the Answer. And I want you to think about something for just a moment. Have you ever thought about the fact that we have a physical body, we have organs in our body, and we've got this just amazing, miraculous brain that's been developing for billions of years and different components of the brain and if we make the correlation towards, let's say, the animal kingdom, how is it that birds know where to fly in the winter thousands of miles? How is it that bees know exactly what to do and how to pollinate from plant to plant? How is it that ants have this intelligence of doing their work so meticulously and so perfectly? And how is it that human beings have this intuitive sense that they just know something before they really even know it? Your intuition? Well, something that I believe we all have access to is an internal GPS system. Just like your navigation system in a car, once you put an address in, you know, there's a GPS system that works between your car and a satellite. I personally believe that everybody has their own internal GPS system that once you set a goal and you really embed that into the subconscious mind, not your conscious mind, because your conscious mind's got 50, 60,000 thoughts a day, but when you embed a location, something you want to achieve, a target, a goal, my personal belief is that your brain's GPS system at an unconscious level, starts to figure out ways to help you get to that goal. Now, the key with this GPS system is not to just keep changing the target. So it's not to set one goal and change it and change it and change it. The key with your GPS system, with your brain, is to set a goal and then look at it and think about it every day and ask yourself this question. What could I be doing today to achieve that? What could I be learning? Who could I be talking to? What could I look for online? Who's already done this? That way you give your brain clues so that it could develop the map for you to achieve that goal. And while you're doing some conscious work on it, what we do know is that your unconscious mind is so powerful and is tied to this quantum field of intelligence that it'll be working 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help you navigate towards your ultimate destination. The key, pick the destination. The second key is to do what you can consciously by finding out much information, strategies, tactics, people, resources, and become resourceful. And third, allow your internal GPS to guide you by following your intuition. When you have a hunch, go for it and don't ask whether it's right or wrong. Feel and go towards your feelings and your emotions.
