John Wetmore argues that six-minute interviews can't reveal whether someone will actually work out. He compares interviewing to sales: you need to dig into the why behind someone's behavior, spot friction points that might annoy a future manager, and adjust your own approach to address them early.
A lot of people are like, 6-minute interview and they're hired. I'm like, what? You don't know shit about them. No different than like, we go sales standpoint, right? We can get a big deep fucking why, or we can assume the shit out of it and hope they pay. I just know when I don't weed out the things that annoy me, the odds of me being annoyed is really fucking high. So all the things that I see that are friction, maybe they bother me, maybe they bother the agent, could be either one, but there's some kind of friction. I'm paying attention to that and going, how can I fix my presentation up front to deal with that earlier, no matter what the situation is?
