In this brief excerpt from Jeff Bezos’s talk, he observes that people tend to overestimate risks and underestimate opportunities. He advises entrepreneurs to counteract this natural bias, noting that perceived risks are often smaller and potential opportunities larger than they appear. Bezos also warns that thinking small creates a self‑fulfilling prophecy, limiting growth and success.

I think it's generally human nature to overestimate risk and underestimate opportunity. And so I think entrepreneurs in general would be well advised to try and bias against that piece of human nature. The risks are probably not as big as you perceive, and the opportunities may be bigger than you perceive. The second thing I would point out is that, you know, thinking small is a self-fulfilling prophecy.
