Brian Tracy explains a recruitment technique for life-insurance sales: ask prospects if they want to stay a salesperson forever or build their own agency. Once they're open to growth, ask if they know anyone else interested in learning the business. This low-pressure approach lets you mentor while recruiting, positioning yourself as a guide rather than a hard seller.

One of my favorite questions to ask people when they're coming in is, do you want to be a sales— a life insurance salesperson for the rest of time, or do you have any interest in one day building an agency? And I word it that way super specifically because if you don't build, you will sell forever. So I say it that way, but then I like take some burden off. I go, do you one day have any interest in building an agency? Every time I go, do you want to sell or do you want to build? Well, one day I want to build. I just want to figure it out first and learn what I'm doing. So I just take the burden off right away. So if they go, one day, I'm like, cool. Well, do you know anybody that might have any interest in learning the business now? Because I can teach them while I teach you. Takes all the burden off of you. And shit, no one expects you to be able to know anything now anyway. It's a golden opportunity for you to hire people now because they know you don't know shit. So I'll train them. And then when you're ready, I'll teach you how to do it too. Just really simple. And I just always plant that seed. I don't beat them up. I don't ask them every day. I'm not telling them, give me friends and family. I'm not wearing people out. I just plant the seed.
