Ask Joni #4: Questions and Answers to Your Questions About Astrology!

This is a transcript of Joni Patry's YouTube Q&A (Ask Joni #4) about Vedic astrology. Joni answers audience questions on whether near-death experiences are self-created versus destined (advocating a mix of free will and destined events), illustrates how incorrect birth-time/daylight-savings handling can change chart interpretation and outcomes, explains why Vedic and Western astrology can produce similar timing (same planetary aspects/transits despite a ~24° sign shift), and discusses asteroids (notably Chiron) as cultural markers for healing modalities.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about questions and answers. So this is the next Ask Joni. I have so many questions that I'm having to break this up into different segments. But wow, what incredible, incredible people that are asking such great questions. I have to go through them all. This is like so important to me that there's so much, so much quest for knowledge, especially about Vedic astrology. So let me begin again now here is from Steffi, ksm My question is, wants to know about near death experiences. Now Steffi had said that from my app I had mentioned something about a near death experience on a particular day which she said she had. And.
Is it just that she read that that made it happen or are there things that just seem to happen without us thinking about it? So are we creating this experience is what she I think is trying to say.
Or can we avoid these things if we know about them? And my answer to you is absolutely. I believe in free will and I believe we make choices now. I absolutely believe there's some things that are destined to happen. We have no. We determined that these particular things had to happen and in order for us to grow. So certain things were set up to happen, especially meeting certain people and our parents. Of course, maybe we choose them, but after we're here, there's no choice in changing that. But my point is there are so many things we can change. Such as? Here's what I think many people would not be here today if we didn't have the advent of modern medicine such as chemotherapy, open heart surgery. I believe the Vedic chart sometimes tells us when we're supposed to die, but we outlive it. Why? Because of modern medicine. If we didn't have these things, we wouldn't be able to live beyond the scope of sometimes what the chart says. So I believe that and I do believe through the power of positive thinking and believing and knowing, we can create things in our life. But sometimes in our chart it creates certain characteristics where we may be a little bit more negative and have to overcome that, or maybe we just have a lot of fear that we have to overcome. And maybe some of the events are so much. I mean this is all multi dimensional in different layers. But I do think we can change things and I do think that we can also create things through our constant belief in something as well. So I think it goes both ways. Yes, maybe we can bring things on by knowing them. But I'll tell you a story. I had a Client who her chart said.
Her life was going to change and it was going to be so fast fabulous that the astrologer, it wasn't. She was my student. But astrologer before this said she was going to have to wear sunglasses. Her life was going to be so bright and wonderful. So she was expecting that totally. Guess what? She lost everything.
And she. She came to me and goes, how can this be? I was supposed to be going into the best dasha. Everything was perfect. It was a new beginning. And I looked at her chart. She was born in Chicago during the time that they didn't record the birth times in daylight savings time, even though it was daylight savings time. So in other words, the astrological program, because it was daylight savings time, keyed that in. But you had to know this to take daylight savings out of the chart because it shifted her ascendant. And my teacher told me many years ago, always if you have someone born in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, who said the states that begin with an I around the late 50s and early 60s, that they will record it in standard time, even though there was daylight savings time. So you got to manually take it off. But going back to the whole scenario, you she was expecting her life to take off. Well, if the power of thought in telling her how great her life was going to be would work, then this should have worked. But she lost everything. And I mean everything. It was a nightmare. And she even lost her life eventually. But it turned out that the astrologer was seeing everything was happening in the first house. So that's a new beginning. And it's like greatness. But when I shifted it to the daylight savings time, taking it out, all the planets were in the 12th House of Loss. So that's a good example to prove that theory. Okay, let's take another question. So.
All right, this is great, Sylvia. New Age says, how can you make predictions using Vedic astrology and be so accurate? And how a western astrologer can make predictions and be accurate too. Tell you why, because the aspects are the same. People don't realize that. Like, it's like if you're looking at a birth chart and you see Venus's.
Trine or oppose the moon or conjunct Jupiter or all these aspects that planets make. Jupiter trining Mars, Jupiter trining Rahu. All these aspects in the Vedic chart are also in the western chart. The aspects are identical. So let's say you're looking at the transits. The transits hit the same time in both Western and Vedic as well. Why is that? And I Thought when I first came over to Vedic, I could escape some of the transits. But you absolutely cannot. Because if you take the whole zodiac and you shift it back 24 degrees because that's what the Vedic chart does, all your western planetary placements are shifted back 24 degrees in the Zodiac. Now realize that when you're talking about the transiting planets, they're shifted back 24 degrees as well. So all of your transits will be hitting the same days, whether you're looking at the Vedic chart or the Western chart. The difference is the signs are different. Their signs are different, but the aspects are the same. And of course the house rulers are different. So when you're looking at a certain Ascendant, let's say that you think you're Cancer Ascendant in western, but it falls back into Gemini and Vedic. You have all the planets ruling according to what houses? Different houses. And I have to say once again, I didn't get the results from western astrology. So that I did with Vedic once I shifted all the signs. So it's because the aspects are the same. Okay, so let's take another one.
This is from Amy Myers. What is going on with the asteroid passing by Earth this month? The the latter 1988 or RO2. And there was another one someone else mentioned, I think it was Adonis or something, which I actually didn't know about. But let me say this. Asteroids are huge signs. If they come into our atmosphere, they're signaling something very, very important. And I've always looked at that. For example, Chiron was an asteroid that came into the Earth's atmosphere in 1977. And what it brought was amazing things. Chiron is the wounded healer. It deals with healing. And guess what came out of the late 70s? Chiropracty. That's same name for healing. Another thing about Chiron, I love this story, got to give this story. Think about this. Chiron was the wounded healer. Well, in mythology, Chiron gave the poison arrow to Hercules to kill the, you know, the great enemies and the monsters. But accidentally, Hercules wounded Chiron and Chiron was in immense pain. But Chiron was an immortal God. Meanwhile, Prometheus gives fire to the people and the gods are enraged. So what do they do? They chain him to the top of a mountain. And they said, there'll be a vulture that eats out your liver during the day, but it'll grow back at night. And the only way you can escape this suffering is if an immortal God gives up their immortality for you. So guess what? Chiron was in so much pain from this wound. All he wanted to do was die. He didn't want to take the pain anymore. So he gave up his immortality to Hercules and he was released. But I think the whole symbology with Chiron is the fact that Chiron represents deep healing and what is eating away the liver and growing back alcoholism. And in the late 70s is when the first rehab center, the Betty Ford center came out and was popularized. So that is the essence of Chiron coming into the atmosphere. All the healing modalities with addictions in chiropractic medicine that came about. So I'll close with that.
