Bhadra Yoga: When Mercury Is Your Most Powerful Planet in Astrology

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about the Puncha Mahapurusha yogas. And what is a Pancha Mahapurusha yoga anyway? What it is is when you have a planet in its own sign or exalted and it sits in an angular house. So Pancha first of all means five. Maha means great and Purusha actually means men. So it means the five yogas of great men or the five great men and yogas is what it is. Yoga just simply means union, bringing things together. So there are five of these and they are composed of the five planets. In other words, this excludes the sun, the Moon and Rahu and Ketu. So it's Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. Whenever you have one of these planets.

In an angle and it's in its sign of rulership or exalted, that planet becomes who you are. Essentially every quality of that planet will be stamped on your forehead. So I wanted to talk about each one. So, so the one I'm going to talk about today is going to be Mercury. When you have Mercury in the Mah Purusha Yoga, what is that? That's called a Bhadra Yoga. So you see each of them have a specific name. So a Badra yoga is when you have Mercury in its sign of rulership, exalted and in an angular houses. So what are the signs of exaltation and rulership? So Mercury exalted in Virgo and its sign of rulership is Gemini. And also Mercury's sign of rulership is also Virgo. So there's only two signs for Mercury. It could be in to have the Mahapurushi yoga, in other words the Bhadra Yoga. So what houses are the angles or as we call them in Vedic astrology, the Kendras, These are houses 1, 4, 7 or 10. We call these the angles. But Kendra actually means the center. It's the center of the chart. And when you look at the North Indian style charts, you've got that diamond in the middle. These will be the Kendras because they're the most powerful houses. They make things happen. When you have planets in these houses, that planet and its energy will dominate your life. But let's talk about Mercury. What does it mean if you have it in the first, if you have it in the fourth house, if you have it in the seventh house or you have it in the tenth house and it is in either of the signs Gemini or Virgo, you've got a Badri Yoga that is a powerful, powerful yoga that will expand everything that Mercury is about. So what is Mercury about? Communications? Yes. It's about how we communicate, how we get our message across to the world. And Mercury is also about learning and intelligence. People with the Badri yoga are extremely, extremely intelligent. And I often say people that have Mercury in Gemini can be very funny, but because in order to be funny, seriously, you have to think fast. And that's the kind of mind that has Mercury in either Gemini. Gemini can be slapstick funny, but they're really funny. And when Mercury is in Virgo, they can be very cynical, intelligent, but witty. It's sort of like a dry sense of humor when Mercury is in Virgo, but both these placements are so highly intelligent, and they know how to communicate so well. Mercury in the first house, that's who they are. Highly intelligent. Mercury and Virgo in the first house are going to be extremely smart and witty and focused when it comes to any intellectual endeavor. If you have Mercury in the fourth house, this is the soul. This is the essence of the chart. This is the deep side. Highly intelligent, somebody who thinks methodically, powerfully. Remember, can be in either Gemini or Virgo if you have it in the seventh house. The seventh house reflects back to the first. So it's like this is a reflection of who you are. Plus, you'll be very drawn to highlight intelligent partners. In other words, you can't be with someone unless you have great communications and you understand each other. And most of all, with Mercury being in the seventh house, you're going to find that your partner is very smart. Very, very, very smart. So that's one thing. Now, Mercury being in the 10th house, this is profound because it's going to reflect your intelligence around your work and your reputation and how you appear to the world. But let me just say, well, for one thing, somebody that has Bhadra yoga is Bill Gates. He has Mercury exalted in Virgo in the fourth house. And he created what one of the biggest ways that we communicate in the world, the Internet. So you can see how Badri Yoga really presents itself through the intelligence of this individual. And another thing Mercury deals with is travel. So these will be people that travel extensively throughout their life, communicate well, high intelligence, always thinking ahead, futuristic. But they learn quick and they love to learn. Always reading, always writing, always communicating, always, always spreading information.

That's what Mercury Bhadra Yoga will do for you. It is extraordinary. And anyone that has this is extremely lucky because they have the gift of intelligence, the gift of gab communications. And the mind and they travel the world. So with that, I'd like to close. I hope that you can see things more clearly through looking at your chart and seeing if you have any of the Mahapurushi yogas, especially from the Badra Yoga vantage point.
