Brothers and Sisters in a Chart

This is a short instructional YouTube talk by Vedic astrologer Joni Patry explaining how to read sibling relationships in a birth chart. Core claims: Mars is the karaka (primary indicator) for brothers and sisters; the 3rd house generally represents siblings (11th for elder, 3rd often younger); specific planets in the 3rd (Mars, Jupiter, Rahu, Ketu, Saturn) and aspects to the 3rd-house ruler influence sibling dynamics; the D3 (Drekina) divisional chart gives further detail about sibling relationships. The speaker mentions Virgo ascendant and Mars/Rahu/Ketu combinations as common trouble indicators and closes with links to her teaching and reading services.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie, and welcome to my YouTube channel. Today, I'd like to give some more specific tools, techniques, my secrets, and how you can blow people's mind with looking at a birth chart. So today I want to talk about brothers and sisters, and I want to talk specifically about the third house, brothers and sisters, and how you can assess.
What'S going to happen concerning siblings. So with that, Mars is the karika, meaning indicator of brothers and sisters. Even though we think of Mars as male, it definitely will be relative to sisters, not only brothers. Now, traditionally we say the third house is the younger sibling and the 11th house is the elder sibling. But generally the third house is all siblings. So regardless if they're younger or older, even though it can be more specifically for younger, it does represent all of our siblings. And Mars all by itself, regardless of where it is in the chart, will be the indicator of siblings.
I guess Mars being that planet of war and disruption, courage, fighting, you know, brothers and sisters are the first individuals we come in contact that we are in.
A fight for the attention of our parents. You know, it is that way. So there's this conflict of.
Many times jealousy, because, you know, when a new baby's born, the older sibling becomes jealous because all of a sudden their undivided attention is taken. So you can see the camaraderie and, and why. We have this conflict many times with brothers and sisters, but as we grow older, we grow to appreciate and love them many times. But here is where you can find problems with brothers and sisters. If Mars is in the third house, that is when a karaka, indicator of individual in a chart is in the house that they represent, it is not good for that person that house represents. So in other words, Mars in the third house.
Even if you get along really well with your sibling, guarantee you there's going to be some split separation, there's going to be some contention, and a lot of it at some point, this is a given. Now, people that have Virgo as their ascendant sign generally have problems with siblings. Why? Because Mars, which is siblings all by itself, rules the third house of siblings, and it also rules the eighth house, which is the most difficult house of all. So generally, as a whole, if Virgo is your ascendant, and remember, I'm talking the sidereal zodiac, not western tropical astrology, talking Vedic. If you have Virgo as your lagna, your ascendant, generally, not always there is. There are some issues or problems with siblings. Maybe you get along with them great, but your sibling in and of themselves. And their life is very, very difficult with Virgo ascendant. And if Mars is in the third house and if you have Virgo ascendant, if it's in the third or the eighth, definitely are going to have problems. And those that have Mars simply conjunct Rahu, their siblings will have problems. Because as it being the karaka for siblings, it is really difficult for that sibling. They will have problems in their life as well as Ketu, with Mars simply being that Mars is the karaka for siblings.
Now there is a divisional chart that can give further reference as to our relationship with our siblings. And it is the D3, which is the Drekina chart because it defines our relationships with our siblings. And wherever Mars is in that chart will reflect our relationship or the problems our siblings may have in life. But going back to the original birth chart.
Of course, planets in the third house are going to indicate siblings. And many times when you have Jupiter in the third house, not all the time, but Jupiter in the third house, that can many times mean you are the youngest one. And many times when you have rahu in the 11th House, that can mean you are the oldest one in your family.
But Mars is so specific in depicting our relationships and our experiences with our siblings. Mars in the 12th house can represent losses around siblings all by itself, simply knowing it's the Karaka. Taking it a step further, planets in the third house will depict our relationship with our siblings. Ketu there will represent that there's always something missing in the relationship with your brother or sister. You never feel like you get to know them. You never feel like things are resolved with them. You never feel like you understand them. There's something missing with your relationship with your sibling.
And Saturn there can mean distance. So different planets in the third house will give indications of our relationship and the experiences our siblings have.
Now the planet that rules the third house, of course, is going to depict our relationship with our siblings or our siblings actual experiences throughout their life. And when benefics aspect the ruler of the third, this will be good. But when malefics aspect the ruler of the third and mounting, if you've got a malefic in the third and the planet that rules the third and, and when I say rulership of the third, if you have, let's say you have Aries as your ascendant, that would mean Gemini would be the sign on the third house. And because Mercury rules Gemini, that means that Mercury is the ruler of the third house.
So if malefics are aspecting Mercury anywhere in the chart it reflects things going on with your sibling and then again planets aspecting or in the third house do as well.
So this is how you can understand better specific variables in your chart definitely by knowing the karakas of things in the chart definitely by knowing planets in the houses relative to what you're doing trying to understand and in this case siblings and the planet that rules the third house and taking it a step further when we start to look at divisional charts the drekina chart will give clues to the relationship and experiences of your brothers and sisters your siblings.
