Dara Karaka: Who Is Your Marriage Partner?

YouTube talk by Joni Patry explaining the Vedic/Jaimini concept of Darakaraka (darakaraka) — the planet at the lowest sidereal degree in a natal chart — as an indicator of one’s marriage/serious partner. Patry contrasts Atma Karaka (highest sidereal degree) with Darakaraka, describes how transits/dashas to the darakaraka can time meetings/marriage, and gives planet-by-planet sketches (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn) of likely partner traits. The video includes brief product promotion for Patry’s jewelry and a plug for her online Vedic astrology school.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about the Karakas, as I spoke before about the Atma Karaka. The Atma Karaka tells you who you are.
And it's according to the planet in your chart that is at the highest siderical degree. Of course, we exclude the three outer planets. They're not part of this system of Karakas. And I don't use Rahu and Ketu, although some do. But I only use the planets. So before I start, I wanted to point out that I do have a new jewelry line, and this is my favorite piece I wanted everyone to see. It is a turquoise mala, and at the end of the mala is a gold medallion with a beautiful lotus and all seven of the chakras relative to the planets, the seven planets and their stones and colors. What we do with these beautiful malas is we. We empower them with our words are affirmations, and that holds the energy to manifest healing in our life, whatever that may be. I also have another one of the beautiful malas that I use as a bracelet as well. So we empower those with our affirmations and energy to heal. Also notice I do have the seven chakras and the earrings as well. So let's talk about the Karakas. I'm talking about the Atma Karaka. We've already talked about that. So I thought I'd point out another important variable that I always look for in a chart, and that's called the darakaraka. So it's easy to spot the Atma Karaka because you're looking for the planet that's in highest satirical degree. Of course, I'm talking about the Vedic sidereal chart, not the Western tropical chart. This doesn't apply to that. And this is a part of Gemini astrology, which is another whole segment of one of the seers, such as Parashara. Jaimini was another. And it's a different system, works beautifully. So I always look at the Atma Karka and I always look at the Darakaraka because the Darakaraka is the planet that is lowest in siderical degrees. So it's easy to spot, right? You're looking for planets that you know are early degrees. And what is the darakaraka? Everyone needs to be looking for the darakaraka because it is your spouse, your partner, whether. Whether it's in serious relationships, dating. But that's going to be, basically, yes, the serious partnership. The. That's the Dara Karaka. So depending on what sign it's in, depending on what house it's in, will give you so much information about your partner, especially where you may even meet them. This is really relative. And when we start looking at the transiting planets, such as when Jupiter aspects the darakaraka, I know that could be an opportunity when you're going to meet someone, fall in love, that's the darakara, always looking for that. So not only when I'm looking at relationship charts am I looking at Rahu, Ketu, Jupiter, Saturn, aspecting the seventh house of marriage, or even the fifth house of dating and meeting people. But I'm also looking at is the darakaraka being aspected either by dasha by transit? This is important. This will tell you when somebody could meet someone or get married. Looking at the darakaraka. Now, if you're darakaraka, let's go through the different planets. Let's say that your darakaraka is the sun. That would represent that your partner is going to be a leader in charge. They're the boss. They're the ones that call the shots in the relationship. Let me just say that the sun is the masculine, masculine energy in the force, where the moon is the feminine energy. So it can also represent the sun is this powerful giver and takes charge and is in control. Whereas if your darakaraka is the moon, that would mean that your partner is more sensitive, more feeling, absorbs and is the nurturer in the relationship, takes care of you and always concerned on how you feel. Whereas the sun is going to be the great provider, but not necessarily so concerned about how you feel.
What are you thinking? What are you feeling? No, the sun is going to be this great provider, hard worker leader, whereas the moon is the more sensitive partner. That really reflects some of what you're saying and has deep feelings and can get their feelings hurt very, very easily. So be careful with that. Now, if your dara karka is Mercury, means your partner is going to be very intellectual and you appreciate somebody who's got great wit, great humor, someone who thinks fast, on top of everything, a great traveler to travel with because they're adventuresome, but they're always, always thinking. As a matter of fact, if your darakaraka's mercury, your partner, you may find, say many times, I think I like this. I think I want to go here. I think. Whereas if your darakaraka is the moon, they're going to say, well, I feel I want this. I feel I want to go there. So it's like the sense of thinking versus feeling. But the Mercury darakaraka, the means you appreciate the intellect in your partner and that's the kind of partner that you look for and someone that's open minded, someone that has a great sense of humor, that's very mercurial. And Mercury is a very fun planet for the kind of partner that you're going to attract. Someone that's always open and learning new things.
So if your Darakaraka is Venus, then you look for somebody that is charming, graceful, beautiful. Venus is very charming, full of social skills, full of the way that they approach relationships. They know how to behave, they've got great charm. So they could also be a field of art in some way, self expression. Whether a poet, a writer, a musician.
An entertainer. And you know, Venus could represent that they're extremely wealthy, they have great wealth and they know the finer quality things in life. That's the kind of partner that you're drawn to with Venus being the darakaraka. So if Mars is the dark Orika, you are drawn to that raw energy of fire. Someone that's very expressive, can even be an athlete at some point, but loves action, exercise, fights for what they believe in, no wishy washy way about them. And another thing is with Mars being the dark Horika.
They can be apt to anger quickly. But sometimes that's a good thing because they blow up, get over it. They're not going to hang on to being angry. But sometimes if Mars is retrograde Dara koraka, you'll find they can be passive aggressive or they don't know how to handle their anger because they try to push it away. But what happens is it becomes explosive. So they have anger issues. But Mars being the dark Harka means your partner is a go getter, ambitious, driven to the max. Because that's what Mars energy is all about. Ambition and drive and courage. So a very courageous partner that can protect you in many ways. So if you're Jarakaraka.
Is Jupiter, then this means you love the kind of person that is learned, highly educated, truthful, coming from a place of information, learning higher information can even be someone that may be involved in in the law or the legal system. Even Mars being the darakaraka going back to Mars. Then you could even be involved with somebody that's in the police force or has something to do with the armed services. That would be Mars as your darakaraka. But while Jupiter is darakaraka, you're looking for Someone that really aspires to the higher things in life. Yes, they could even be involved in legal process, such as a lawyer, but they can also be a spiritual teacher, a philosopher, a professor. That's what you're really looking for in terms of a marriage partner. Somebody with great wisdom that you can look up to almost as a father figure or a teacher. With Jupiter being the darakaraka. So if Saturn's a darakaraka, you look for somebody that is wise beyond their years. And sometimes, yes, you will look for somebody that, that's older because you want somebody that's going to take charge in a way that they're in control of a situation because they have so much more maturity and knowledge and information. Someone that is organized. Someone that works really hard, pays attention to the sense of duty and cares about everything to do with how they their work ethic, being in charge, organized, structured, disciplined. You're looking for someone with great discipline in your relationships. That's what you will be attracted to and appreciate the best. And as life goes on, the relationship gets stronger and better because things get better with Saturn as you get older. So as I said, Saturn being the Darakaraka, you could be attracted to someone that is older, but Mercury as the Darakaraka, you could be attracted to someone who is younger. So you see when you look at these karakas, they give so much information. And I'll have another series on these karakas as they relate to specific houses because that can even represent how you meet your partner. Such as what if you have the darakaraka in the third house, you could meet them through what classes, learning, educational, maybe in school. So that's how this works.
