I am so excited because I have my dear friend Ronnie Gildryer here and we're going to be talking about something really exciting because Ronnie, I gotta say she is so knowledgeable. She was one of the teachers back in the day when I first started going to these conferences and I was always admiring her because she was so intelligent. She had, I mean the way she did astrology, I really love the way she does astrology. It's really a lot like the way I do astrology. Always comment that we, we do astrology very similar. And you know, she started with Western astrologer astrology back in the day because we didn't even know that there was such a thing as Vedic astrology back and Ronnie and I started like when we calculated charts all by hand, you know, in the 70s and all of that. So, so we go way back. But she is so dedicated. She is one of the first women really that was teaching at the conferences. And you have to know there weren't that many women teachers back in the day. Ronnie was a trailblazer. She wrote one of the first books from a Westerner about Vedic astrology. And being a woman, I think that is spectacular. And she, I am such an admirer of Ronnie and she, and she is so much fun.
But we have so much fun together. She is a trip. She is so much fun. And mainly she's fun because you can really pick her brain. She knows so much. Let me tell you just a few things. She went to India and studied, I mean stayed there and studied with a master in India.
Unheard of, I think it was in the 70s. And on top of that now she's got a master's in Sanskrit. So I want to open the floor up and give a warm welcome to Ronnie. But before I do, let me say that she is the speaker at the conference here. Futureofastrology.com and that's why I'm conducting these interviews so that she can tell you a little bit about herself, her story and also talk about the conference and her talk because she's going to be giving this information that you know, really it's, it's one of a kind information when it comes from Rami. She's a fabulous, incredible teacher. I was, you know, at the, at her feet many years ago watching you, you know, it just. Yeah, I mean you are, I'm definitely an admirer of you, Ronnie. You were one of the trailblazers, the forefront people that paved the way for the rest of us. So for those of you that don't know about the conference. It's October 5th through the 7th, so it's coming up here really soon. If you want to come on, you know, now's the time. And the prices of the hotel are about to increase after this weekend. So if you're thinking about coming, you know, don't think anymore because the price is going to go up, and we would love to have you here. So it's October 5th through the 7th. Check out the website. It's down here with the channel, but it's futureofastrology.com now. With that, I want Ronnie to come on board here. And, Ronnie, tell us all about how you got started in this. What? You know, give us all this juicy information. Go ahead.
Okay. Can you see me on the YouTube?
Very perfect.
Okay, so. Okay. Because I don't know how I'm doing this with YouTube. You can. You can see me and everything like that. Okay, great.
Yeah. Whenever I talk, it. It switches back and forth.
Ah, okay. Okay. Because I'm not used to doing this. Anyway, I have to tell you all that I have the same wonderful, wonderful feelings about Joni. So, Joanie, as you all know, that's why you're here, because she's a great teacher and we've learned from each other. And one of the things we noticed when we first met, of course, is that our sun signs are exactly 180 degrees from each other. And as a lot of, you know, going from western to eastern, in Western, we call that like an opposition. But Joni and I immediately clicked when we met at this conference in Sedona. We went to all the Vedic conferences in Sedona, and we were always the ones that were going out and having dinner out and meeting in the bar after instead of drinking tea and going to sleep early. So I have to confess that. But in Vedic astrology, what's great is that when you have what we call in the west, an opposition is really considered to be a full aspect, or drishti. So, in fact, Joni and I don't have an opposition of our sons. We actually have a full aspect, you know, or drishti, meaning we're looking at each other and learning from each other, because, you know, that's really the whole idea with the meaning of the word drishti is, you know, to see, to learn, to know, to take in the knowledge. So I always like that, that we. We have that in common. So it also means that, you know, why we both got into eclipses, which we both talk about a lot of, because, in fact, if we have an eclipse. It means, you know, anywhere, let's say around our birthdays, it means it's hitting my son and it's also hitting Joni's son. So we both also know that when we have aspects that are going around our sun signs, you know, we know that they're kind of in sync with each other's chart. So that's the first thing. And one of the reasons I love Vedic astrology is also that that is not considered the opposition. You know, it's considered to be the full aspect between our charts. So that was why we clicked. And I think just to start with this conference is it's going to be a really fun conference, but also a good conference to learn from each other, because it's going to be all plenaries, and it's going to be everybody really taking the time to be able to talk to one another and meet each other and pick each other's brains and things like that. So I'm really looking forward to it. Makes me feel a little bit old, you know, when I hear about all these, like, you know, great things. But, I mean, my background is like, Joni's in Western astrology because that was what was available. I mean, I loved astrology, astronomy. I really loved astronomy when I was younger. And when I was a teenager, my father used to take me to the planetarium in New York City. And he knew that that's what I loved, that I loved looking at the sky, stars. And he worked in publishing. It's a really great, great story because my dad worked in publishing, and he was the marketing manager of McGraw Hill, which is a really big publishing company. And, yeah, he used to bring books home, you know, so we had a lot of books. Hill. And one day he brought home this beautiful, big coffee table book of astrology called the Complete Astrologer and by Derek and Julia Parker.
Oh, I remember that.
Yeah. And they were British astrologers who went on to do a lot of media work and sun sign work. And it was this beautiful, beautiful book. And he looked at me and he said, I brought this home for you because you like astronomy. So he didn't really realize it was astrology or he didn't even know the difference, you know. And I must have been about 17, and I started reading this book, and that was it, you know, that was like, wow. We had to do everything by hand, and they had all these tables and, you know, I started doing my chart, doing everybody's chart, and learning about my sun sign and my moon sign. So, you Know, actually, my dad kind of, you know, unwittingly got me into astrology, you know, so. And years later, I must say that at a British astrology conference, I went up to the Parkers because they were there, and I sort of told them this story.
And what happened, I mean, an addendum to that story is that they. They actually, after a year, the book wasn't selling that great, and they sold the rights to this book. They sold the rights to Macmillan in America, and the book became a bestseller when McGraw Hill, his company, got rid of it.
But. But that's how I got into astrology, you know, and I got into Western astrology. And just, you know, every time I met people, I would always ask them their signs. And then I traveled. After college, I went to Europe, and a lot of people were going to India, and I thought, well, you know, I can go back home to the States, but I'm never going to have this chance again. So I stayed in Europe, I went to Greece, I went to Turkey. We got on a bus and went to India. And those days, you could do that, you know. I mean, we went through Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan. Yeah, I was. I. You know, I did it myself. I mean, I. Because you met people, you know. I mean, to think what we did in those days is really unbelievable, you know. But that whole story actually is in my book. I'm just gonna hold it up. Vedic astrology, if I can be a little bit obnoxious. But it's in the introduction to my book, the Whole Story of India. And when I went to India, everybody was either going to the beach and doing drugs or they were going to an ashram to learn, you know, some kind of meditation, or they were going to study Indian music, you know. And I thought to myself, well, now that I'm in India, why don't I try to learn astrology? Because, you know, it's. It's such an ancient topic, and it kind of began here. And that's what I did. I mean, I started asking around for different teachers, and I went to Varanasi, which has universities, and I met a professor at one of these universities who gave me lessons. And that's really how I started learning Indian astrology. And they were also trying to teach me Sanskrit at the time, but I couldn't really do both at the same time. So I did learn how to pronounce everything. I had to learn the Nakshatras before I learned anything else, I had to memorize the Nakshatras. And that was the first lesson Go home, memorize the Nakshatras, and then we can go on. So it was quite interesting. And I studied. You know, I was in India for about six months at that time. I studied every day. And then when I came back to the West, I didn't know anybody else who was doing this. You know, it was really. You kind of, like, were. And then suddenly James Braha's book came out, and Tom Hopkins book came out, and suddenly all these books started coming out. And this publisher asked me to do this book. So, you know, I did a book called Indian Astrology. And then in the States, I started finally, like, connecting with all of these people who did astrology, Indian astrology. And Dennis Harness, who does the Sedona conferences now. He did conferences in California, and then when they moved to Arizona, they went out to Sedona. And that's how we met. And that's how we met so many of the masters. I mean, people came from India. Chakrapani Ulal was at these conferences, and KN Rao and Dr. Charak. So, so many people who we met, really. Raman Gayatri. Gayatri Vasudeva. She's Dr. Raman's daughter. And that's how it started, you know. And, you know, then after that, I just started doing. I still did Western astrology, but I also did Indian astrology side by side until I found Western groups that were interested in, you know, learning it. So. And that's how it came. And then it just snowballed, and there were conferences. Dennis's conference helped out a lot. You did a conference. And then, of course, the Internet made it explode even more. So now we have, like, you know, I mean, it's everywhere, you know, and, yeah, so it's great. But, you know, we've been on this journey for so many years. It's great to see Vedic astrology become really popular now, you know, and palatable. I think that's what both of us, as Westerners really try to do, you know, not to demystify it, you know, to. Not to. Not to say it doesn't have mystical qualities. Not to say it is magical. In fact, the title of my talk is Magical Vargas, you know, but also to demystify it and to put it into language that everybody can understand, you know, And I think that's what a lot of us have accomplished in the west is showing people that it's not so crazy. It's not, you know, so black and white as people would have you believe. There's a lot of gray areas and, you know, Ways you can, you know, like Rose was talking about yesterday, mitigating your karma or helping it out. So there's all these ways to, you know, work with your chart. Very, very definite ways. Healing and upayas and mantras and service. So I think that's what's beautiful about Indian astrology, is that there are definite ways that were prescribed in texts that were written years and years ago that really tell you how to work with your chart, which is, you know, I think what, what we like to do.
And that's really taking the astrology of the past into the future, where we, where you, you know, you really do understand how to use this in our life today.
Yeah, but another thing I want everyone to know about you, Ronnie, is you've got your master's in Sanskrit and you're able to decipher and translate some of the ancient texts. That's phenomenal. You're taking it to the next level. Tell us about that.
Well, I mean, I can't. I mean, my translation skills still need a lot, a lot of work. But one of the things that, you know, after so many years of doing Indian astrology, I always wanted to go back for a master's degree degree, and I always wanted to do it and I wanted to learn the Sanskrit language. And, you know, you get busy with your life and it's not like every school teaches it. And at a certain point, I wanted to write another book on yoga. I wanted to write a book on yoga's. That's what happened. I still haven't written it, but I have some chapters and I started to do the research and I started looking into a lot of the scriptures because so much the nice thing about Indian astrology is that it really does still come from the ancient scriptures. I mean, there hasn't been a time in the history of India that astrology stopped or people put it down or forbid it. Not like, you know, in the Western tradition. So you really have an unbroken tradition. You have different elements coming in, you know, so like when the Muslims took over, we had a lot of Arabic astrology influencing Indian astrology. I mean, that's when things like solar returns, Varsha fall came into existence. And of course, as the modern era goes on, you want to change some of those, you know, ancient symbols. You know, like instead of getting bit by a snake and dying of venom, which is like the nodes, you know, a lot of times that could indicate that you're doing drugs or you're, you know, doing things that are poisonous to your system, like substance abuse. So I always find it interesting to try to take that and make it modern. So when I was doing the yogas, I really wanted to first look at what all the classical texts said about them and then do a modern, you know, a modern sort of reworking of it. But what I found was in some of those texts, like they disagreed with each other. And I thought that a lot of the disagreement is not, I mean, there are of course different techniques. Not like all Vedic astrology is the same. But I also thought that maybe some of it was because some of the Sanskrit was not being translated perfectly. So I really thought, you know what, now I want to go back and really learn how to pronounce things, what things mean. And I went back to school first. I had to take beginning like one class a semester just to catch up. Because when you do a master's, you have to start with the third year. So for two years I took one, you know, each year. And then I actually got into the full time master's program at Columbia. It was one of the best things I ever did and I never worked so hard in my life. Oh my God, it's so hard.
Congratulations for achieving that and completing.
But, but yeah, so it really has helped me in a lot of ways going back to the texts, you know, I mean, still I have to look up a lot of stuff. When I do the translations, I still have to go back to the dictionary. So I mean, I mean, it's not perfect by any means, but it's definitely changed the way I look at some things.
I want you to finish that book on the yogas because I know your class on the yogas, I swear it must have been 20 years ago, maybe 15 was one of the best on the yoga. So you've got to do that book. Promise.
I love yogas. I love yogas. I think they are like the most like the hidden gem. Not they're not hidden, but some of them are. There's so many of them. But I think to me that's a lot of times the key to your chart. You know, you can look at your chart and you say, I don't get it. You know, I'm a certain way. My moon isn't showing me that, my lagna is not showing me that this is not showing me. But when you then interpret the yogas, then you see why you, you know, are a certain way. So I think those are great.
Well, tell us a little bit about the class that you're going to be teaching with the divisional charts because you know, I really Feel like that's something that's my weakest area. So I'm so glad that you're going to be speaking on this so I can learn from you as I always love to do. But to learn more about the way that you do this and just give us a little teaser on what this class is going to help us learn.
So this class is, you know, I mean, it's two hours, so it's obviously not going to be about all the varga charts. So what we did was we chose two. So the two charts that we're going to look at. One is what's called what I used to call the Drekana and now I call the drekhana or dreshkana, which is more the way I pronounce it.
He corrected me. I already said it wrong earlier.
I still say it wrong, trust me. I still have to get it in my head. But. So one of the them is going to be the Drushkhana and then the other is the trim Shamsha, which is a very. Not even that it's misunderstood, but that a lot of people don't use it. And the. The droskhana chart is used a lot, but I feel that it's also not used to its fullest. It is the chart that is like the Western decanate. So a lot of people will actually be able to understand it pretty easily. And it is even calculated the same way as deck in a chart. So if you have the sign of Aries, you're going to divide it into three divisions of 10. And the first 10 degrees is. Is the dracona of Aries. The second one is going to be the next fire element. So the second decade or dracona is Leo and the third is Sagittarius. So it's really the same as in the west, except that you're doing it with the sidereal, you know, zodiac. And the charts are the division, the that they are calculated from. So the drekana is done by dividing the rasi chart into threes. So they say that it rules brothers and sisters and siblings. But there's a lot of other things that drekanas rule. Like it rules health. You can get a lot of very strong things about your health. And that's because we have what's called, let's say, sarpa drekinas, which are certain divisions of the water signs that weaken your chart. If you have weaken a planet, if it's for found, let's say in a sarpa drekana. Also what it will do is Strengthen your birth chart. If, let's say you take the lagna of your birth chart and it's very well, well aspected or well situated in the drekhana chart. So the drekana other than the navamsha and the rasi chart in a lot of the scriptures say that those three that you really look at, the Rasi, the drekhana and the Navamsha, to sort of get a much better idea, the planetary strength. And then we also have what's called the 22nd Drekina and the 64th Navamsha, which are degrees which are signs that will also tell you if certain planetary periods are stronger or weaker. And then we have descriptions of each drekina. So you can divide the whole Zodiac into 36 Drekina. So that's three times 12. But I think the interesting thing is that you're right, there's not that much written about these in the, in the classics they tell you all about the. They tell you all about how to calculate them, but they don't really tell you as much. So I really thought that it would be nice with a two hour lecture to do like the first hour on the drakana chart and then the second hour on the trim shamsa. The Truman Shamsha is a chart I love. And I'll tell you why I love it. I did my master's thesis. What I did for my master's thesis was I took five chapters in an old text. The whole text has not been translated into English. It's been translated into Hindi actually, and it's called Vridhaya Vanajataka and it has five chapters on women's astrology. So what I did was with my advisor, I translated. And that was the other thing about Indian astrology that was so great because you can. Because in India astrology is so accepted. You know, my advisor at Columbia, you know, he said to me, I don't really believe in astrology, he said, but I love Sanskrit. And if you're studying Sanskrit and you want to translate a Sanskrit text, then I'll work with you on it. So it was great. I didn't have to hide the fact that I was doing astrology. So there were five chapters on women's astrology. And I translated them and analyzed them. And then I realized that in many of the texts, books in the scriptures, the trim shamsa chart is used in women's astrology. So in fact.
In one of the books, Vriyajataka, there's one chapter on the trim shamsha and then there's another chapter on the trim Shamsha in women's astrology. So the trim Shamsha is based on 30 degrees. But it's not that you divide the whole sign into 1 degree each. Each planet has a different number division. So some are 5 degrees, some are 2 degrees. And it's different ways of dividing the sign. But it's not as. It's not complicated, I promise. It is. It is so easy to look on a chart and just see what trim shamsha your planet is in. So your trim shamsha would be in a planetary ruler. It wouldn't be creating a new chart like some of the Vargas, you know. So let's say if you had a planet in, let's say the trim shamsa that was the same as your birth planet, that would be very strong. So if I look at Donald Trump, for instance, he has Mars in his birth chart in the trim shamsha of Mars. He has Venus in the trim shamsha of Venus. So it would really make that Mars, Venus.
Situation in his chart or combination come out to be really, really, really powerful. So that's one of the ways you're looking at it. Jfk, for instance, had a majority of his birth planets in the trim shamsha of Venus, which makes sense in terms of his womanizing, you know, so these are the things that. And the other thing that I really have to say, I've been talking too much. I know, I'm sorry. But I'm so excited about this. I love Vedic astrology. I love working with Joni. The trim Shamsa chart, if you look at it in terms of the computer programs, it will often say it's the chart of disasters or obstacles. And it's not at all. It's so not that at all. Every.
Can I ask you something? Does it have something to do with vehicles and cars?
Not the trim shamsa chart at all. It just has to really do with that. If you have a planet now, your. Your rashi is divided into five segments according to the trim shamsa, and it has nothing to do with the sun or moon. So, you know, like the horror chart, you either have your planets in the hora of sun or hora of moon, not the others. Well, in the trim shamsha, you either have a planet in the trim shamsha of Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter or Saturn, not sun or moon. So really, all it means is that each planet is going to be amplified by the planet that rules the trim shamsha. And that's all it is. And if you have a planet in its own trim shamsha, it just amplifies the.
Qualities of that planet. And for women's charts, they just have very, very different meanings. If you read the scriptures, it'll tell you, oh, if a woman has this, it means this about her or, you know, this and that. So I'm gonna give everybody like the. The whole, you know, my handouts will show all of those descriptions, you know, and you can take it and you can work with it in terms of modern language. And I think the reason, one of the reasons I really wanted to work with those two to varga charts is those are the Varga charts that are part of the Shadballa system or the six Vargas that they say are most important. So just having room for two, I think we'll really. I think we'll learn a lot that a lot of people aren't aware of, you know. So I've learned a lot by working with the Vargas. And I agree there's not that much written about them, so it's going to be interesting.
And I remember my teacher always telling me, like, you can't use aspects in it. You can't use yoga, spinning, you know, it's just so confusing. I never knew what I could do or not do with them. Limiting. And yeah, it would be so nice, refreshing to be able to feel like we understand them better and what to do with them. Once you understand the birth chart, then you're going, what? I have to now delineate all these 60 other charts.
I think that. I think the key is in the most, most of the time, in most of them, the area of the chart that it represents, you know, is like the number. So, you know, dragon dracana is divided by three, so it rules third house issues. The Dashamsa is divided by 10, so it rules career issues. But. And a lot of them are just limited to that. But that's the nice thing about, let's say Navamsha and Drakana. Those two also have other qualities. So it's not just brothers and sisters. It has to do with strength of body and mind. It's, you know, and that's what's really nice about, I think that chart that you'll see how it works, you know, so it'll complete something, you know.
Yeah, and I think that's true because, you know, I remember in Western astrology always talking about the decans, right? I was like, you know, if you're born in the first, the middle or the last one, it's. You're totally different person of that sign. So. Right, right.
They're done the same way. I mean, you're so already. Everybody is kind of pretty much aware of how they're. I mean, if you've studied Western astrology, it's pretty easy, like I said, to figure out how they're calculated, because they're calculated the same as the decadence, you know, so.
Yeah, well, I thought that we'd spend a little bit of time here, Ronnie, and look at some of the questions that people are asking. So, you guys, I know everybody's been saying hello, ask some questions. I mean, here you have Ronnie, Gil Dreyer, she's got so much information, you know, you can ask her some questions about some of these divisional charts.
Can you see any of them, Ronnie?
I can see them. Most people are just, like, giving comments. I'm not seeing any tins. That's okay.
Let's see.
Okay, so let me see. Yeah, one is.
Okay. Magical. Varga, Drekina and trim Sumsha in a nutshell. How are they magical?
Oh, okay.
How are they magical?
Should I. Should I say how they're. How they. That's a good. That's a good question. Sometimes you title a lecture something that sounds really good.
The reason I say ma. I mean, I don't look at. When I say magic, I'm not looking at it as sort of like alchemical or anything like that, but in a way, I am, you know, because I think that, you know, when you're. When you talk about alchemy or magic, you know, a lot of it has to do with sort of, you know, chemical reactions and just combining things. So I think that for me, you know, when I use the word magical, to me, it sort of implies that there's something very, very alchemical about these that you combine with the birth chart. And when you combine them with the birth chart, you coming up with something a little bit different. So you're coming up with, like a hybrid or some kind of new, you know, new answer or new aspect of yourself that you hadn't necessarily, you know, thought about or realized. So I think it just gives another element. So I could have entitled everything, anything, really. And the reason I also call it magical is because it just gives me that feeling, you know, I just. When I talk about the Vargas, you know, it's like, you know, something magical or mystical or wonderful. So I'm using magical in that sense. You know what I mean? Rather than like abracadabra or something like that, you know, in that. In that aspect of it, one person.
Wants to know about using the outer planets. Do you use the outer I mean, I know I use the outer planets because we. But we both came from Western astrology. So what's your take on the outer planets?
Well, you know, I mean, I also very honestly will look at the Western chart. When I do chart readings, I drop the Western chart as well, because I. I do know that those outer planets work in your chart. I think Rahu Ketu, though, fill in a lot of the same qualities as the outer planets. And I use the outer planets mostly a lot for transits, you know, because I think if you're looking in the sky and you're looking at the transits, if you don't use the outer planets, you're definitely missing something. And in India today, a lot of.
Modern astrologers, they're using them now.
They use them. But I. When I drop a birth chart, I'm not actually putting the outer planets in the divisionals. I'm not telling people they can't or shouldn't. I'm just saying that that's. That's what I do. I mean, I just find that I. If I do that, it starts kind of getting in the way of the actual Vedic chart and the description of it. And also, there are no dashas at all related to the outer planets. So then they're missing that element. But, you know, I tell people they should do their own experimentation. I would never say to somebody, don't do this or don't do that. I'm not. I'm not that kind of dogmatic astrologer. But if I'm doing the lecture, for instance, I'm. I'm not going to show you charts with the Uranus, Neptune, Pluto. I'll just say that much.
Yeah, here's a. Here's a good question. Good. Good vibe said. What. What is in. What is the importance of the D9? Do the transits affect the D9 or the divisional charts in general? A great question.
That's good. I don't know what you do, Joni, because I'm. You know, this is a. It's a good question because it's not something that I'm a hundred. I don't know. A hundred percent. Always the answer. So the d9 is the navamsha, and the Navamshire chart has kind of like the drek in a lot of ways, has two meanings. One, because it's a D9 chart, it does have to do with Dharma, and it has to do with, really, your calling in life. So you look at the birth chart, and in India, for instance, they would never look at your birth chart and make a pronouncement without looking at the navamshire, because that navamshire really can tell you whether the promise of the birth chart is going to be easily expressed and reached in life, or is it going to mean that what you have in the birth chart, you got to try a little harder because the planet is weakened in the navamshire. So it's really something. It's a very, very important subchart or varga chart, I'm sure, however you want to call it. But the other meaning of the navamsha, interestingly enough, is the seventh house. It has to. I mean, it has to do with marriage. Of course, the septamtra, which is divided by seven, is children. But that's also because the. The purpose of marriage in classical times was to have children. So that makes sense. And dharma has a lot to do also with marriage. I mean, you know, in. In classical times, even still now, in. In more ancient cultures, you know, that are still very religious, the marriage was of two families. And you really couldn't have a dharma or you couldn't have a path in life unless it had to do with bringing somebody into your life. So having a partnership, marrying two families, being a householder, this was very, very important. Even men who kind of went out and became ascetics, they did the family thing first, and then they went out and went into the. You know, went into the forest to seek enlightenment because they knew they left children behind to take care of their wives. That was just that very, very classical kind of way of looking at things. And marriage was part of the dharma. So. So I think that the D9 has those two meanings, marriage. And also your dharmic path transits to the navamshire. Again, I'm not necessarily. I'm not always convinced they work, but I know a lot of astrologers that work with them and swear by transits to the navam shot. I mean, the. The varga charts are not the actual chart of the heavens. Transits are the actual position of the planets. And at the present time. So somehow I'm not really sure it fits. To take an actual planet and use it as a transit with a divisional chart. I don't know. Do you use it, Joni? Do you look at it?
There's two different techniques. And I remember. You remember who? R.G. krishnam. Yeah, he lived here in Dallas. And I would go talk to him, and he says the only way that you should use transits is in the navamsha, is if you convert the transit into its navamsha and then place it into the navamsha. Now that makes sense. But I know people that just put the transits in the navamsha without converting them to their navamshire position. And sometimes it works like on the money, but sometimes it doesn't. So I'm not like you. I'm not sold completely on either way I look.
I actually do look at it, you know, and I see if it, if it matter, it makes a difference for me. So I wouldn't say no. I wouldn't say yes. And I. I know people that swear by doing that technique. So.
Yeah, me too.
I think you just have to try it for yourself and see how it works.
Yeah, let's see if there's any other questions that are good.
Let's see.
Well, I think that's exactly what Good Vibe said. Do you use the Nakshatra. Do you use the Nakshatras during transits as well in the birth chart for prediction?
Well, there are very definite techniques. I mean, that is actually written about in the scriptures that if you read the transit chapters, the Gochara chapters, I can't off the top of my head tell you they do definitely say that if you have a transit. And I will do that if you have a transit through a certain sign. To also look at the Nakshatra that it's affecting. That's. That's. Yeah, for sure. And there are definite meanings to that.
It's kind of like the KP system. You know what I'm talking about?
You know, everything's in a trine because the Nakshatras are trying each other, the ones who ruled by the same planet. That is right.
And there are some very. I remember Dr. Charak was at the Arshavidya Gurukulam, which is an ashram where we have a conference every May or June. And I believe it was during the year before 911 happened. And.
I hope I'm not getting this wrong, but I think it was Saturn going through Roini and when Saturn was going through Rohini, he said there was some ancient, ancient a scripture where it actually said that the. The transit of Saturn through the Nakshatra of Rowini was going to be very destructive. And at that time when he said that, you know, we were sort of like, you know. Well, I don't know. Rowani is supposed to be such a nice Nakshatra, you know, but what happened was 911 took place and he said that was actually that particular transit. I'd have to, you Know, you'd have to really go back and see every time, you know, Saturn transits Rohini, Taurus, if that happens. But there are definite. And you have to always, of course you're looking. And I also remember that during that. I had said that myself during, right before Hurricane Katrina, I remember that Saturn was going through push. Yeah, he was going through the sign of cancer. And I remember I said something like. And, you know, sometimes because Saturn or a planet retrogrades, it will stay in a certain area of a sign for a long time. So it could stay in one Nakshatra for a while. And I remember I said to my class, I said, I'm not liking this transit because push it is ruled by Saturn. So because. And. And it's in Cancer, which is Saturn's enemy. The moon is Saturn's enemy. So I said I wasn't. I didn't really like that transit. And I remember somebody said to me, but push you is supposed to be such a wonderful Nakshatra. And I said, well, it is wonderful for electional astrology, for Malhorta, you know, to set things up. I said, but I wasn't. I just didn't like it. And then when Katrina happened, I was like, oh, yeah. I mean, I thought that a lot of that had to do with Saturn's transit through a Nakshatra ruled by Saturn, you know, so. So you have to look at those kind of things as well. I mean, even now, you could look at, you know, some of those transits and see.
Let's take one more question, and I think this one's a good one.
Do you look at transits from the moon or the ascendant more? You know, in India, they say the transit, we should look at transits from the moon. What are your thoughts on that?
I do both. Yeah, I do both. When I look at transits here as what I do, I do it three ways. I look at it from the lagna, I look at it from the moon, and I look at it from the dasha Lord. So, yeah, that was something that I learned in India from my teacher. He said, whenever you have a dasha, set your chart up, which I. I talk about in my book, I call it the dasha as lavina chart. And I will always then look and see for that particular dasha how it appears for the dasha Lord to be the lagna of the chart. And then I look at the transit. So then I'm looking at it three different ways. But, yeah, in the classical text, they tell you to look at it from the moon. But you can really substitute moon and lagna, I think interchangeably. I mean, any yoga that they say from lagna, you also look at from the moon. And I think when you do it that way, it's. It's good because it will. It could strengthen what you're seeing because it can work. You can see from different aspects, you know, if it has similar influences. But yeah, so I do lugna and moon and I add dasha Lord.
So, yeah, and to go back to the one question about using the transits and the dashas, I generally use the dasha, the dasha Lord and the sub Lord, and I always look at them in the divisional charts. Is that what you do as well?
Definitely. Yeah, definitely. Because if you're going to look at what a dasha brings, let's say you want to look at marriage, you know, you can look at the dasha Lord and what house it rules in the navamsha or in the drekana. Those are definitely the kind of things I look after. Sure, definitely.
Well, wonderful. Well, good. Well, I am so glad we had this talk today. This has been a blast. Ronnie, we should do this more because you have such a wealth of knowledge. It would be really fun just to do this at, you know, just you can talk more.
I talked a little too much.
Yeah, definitely whack me and, you know.
I'll just keep going.
No, I want to hear what you have to say. And everything you said was fascinating and I know everyone else felt that way too. So we're going to close. Ronnie, I'll let you get back to whatever you were doing. Thank you for taking your time out in the day. I know your time's precious and let me just remind everyone, please take note. Take look at our conference. It's coming up October 5th through the 7th in only about a week.
So we're all going to converge here to Dallas, Texas. Easy to get to inexpensive plane rides. The hotel. We've got a cut rate price going at the hotel right now. It's about to go up after the end of this weekend. So it's time for you guys that are on the fence to make a decision because time is of essence here and it's here in Dallas October 5th through the 7th. The website is futureofastrology.com I just want.
To say one thing, that I got a very good flight from New York to Dallas. So you really can get good prices even now.
It's not like it used to be. It's like last minute. It used to cost so much in airlines. Oh, my God. Now, it's like, I don't know how they make money, to be honest with you.
I mean, Southwest is a really good airline because they don't really always work like the others, where, like, three weeks out they change their rates, or two weeks out, you find that you can actually get good fares, you know, depending, of course, you know, if they. And sometimes you have to do a stopover. I mean, that's the thing with Southwest. But sometimes it's really still worth it. They don't charge you for luggage. You know, it's really a great airline, so.
Well, I have to say that.
For those of you who don't know, I worked for Southwest for many years.
I'm very partial to that sweet airline. And one more thing, I might add, that's comical. Ronnie is excited to go to the State Fair of Texas.
I am.
We have the State Fair of Texas going on right now for those of you that are interested. Now, I. I don't know if I'll go. My husband loves it. He said he and Ronnie, I'll have a ball together. I. I guess I'll have to go this year.
Ronnie, you have to go, because I'm coming to see you.
Okay, guys. Well, please, I hope we get to meet everyone here in Dallas. So y' all stay tuned, and we will have more interviews. The next one I'll probably have Austin on talking about cryptocurrency. So thank you for watching, and we will be back, and I hope to see you in Dallas.
Bye.
Bye.
Thank you, Joanie, for having me.
My pleasure. Thank you for coming. Bye. Bye.
