Moon in Cancer the Most Sensitive and Feeling of the Zodiac

This is a YouTube lecture by astrologer Joni Patry describing the meaning of having the natal Moon in Cancer. The video emphasizes extreme emotional sensitivity, strong memory, attachment to family/home, and difficulty letting go of the past. Patry then breaks Cancer into three Nakshatras (Poorna Vasu 0°–3°20', Pusha 3°20'–16°40', Aslesha 16°40'–30°) and explains each Nakshatra’s symbol, ruling planet, and the early-life Maha Dasha influences (Jupiter, Saturn/Brihaspati, Mercury) and related personality tendencies.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie, and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about the moon when you have it. Natalie, in your chart in the sign of cancer. Now, there's three segments in the sign of cancer that are going to be totally different. And they deal with what nakshatras are there in cancer. So cancer is ruled by the crab. And I think that's very significant because the crab is so sensitive, you think it's hard as a shell. It isn't affected by anything emotionally. But nothing could be further from the truth because they're hypersensitive. When a moon is in cancer, people feel intensely. As a matter of fact, I always tell people, if you have a moon or rising in cancer, you absorb people's energies because you are so sensitive. And by absorbing people's energies, I mean, you go out crowded places, you come home and you're exhausted. Why? Because you've absorbed all the negative emotion that people have. And yes, they may feel better, but you feel drained. And because it's a water sign, I always tell people you need to take baths to cleanse your auric field of all the negative energy that you just absorbed, like a big sponge. So cancer is that sensitive. But they never let people know you think they're tough as nails, but they are not. So that's a moon in cancer. Now, cancer, of course, if you have the moon in cancer, cancer is ruled by the moon. So this is a very powerful position to have your moon in because it's strong and it gives great abilities. One of the things I've noticed about people with the moon in cancer, or even when the moon is in exchange with mercury, somehow cancer that people are.
They have incredible memories because the moon is also, I say, the mind. And if you have a strong moon, which it is when it's in cancer, you have an incredible mind and you remember everything. So people sometimes have, like, a photographic memory, especially if mercury is involved with the moon. But the moon in cancer has great capabilities of memory. And sometimes that's to their disadvantage because they remember things that they stay, well, pretty much stuck on because they can't let go of the past.
And I always say, years ago, when I would talk to my students about the sign cancer, I would say, you know, if you go fishing and a crab gets a hold of your bait, it will not let go of that bait, even though you're pulling it over to its death. So they stay attached to things and they can't let go. That is emotional things, because don't forget cancer is a water sign. Very, very attached to the past. Now I want to go over the certain degrees. Now one other thing that I think is so vitally important to remember about these Nakshatras and where your moon is, that wherever your natal moon is in terms of its Nakshatra that starts your whole life cycles of your life. So when we talk about the three Nakshatras that are contained in the sign of cancer, I want to make reference to what planet rules that Nakshatra because that means that's the whole cycle that you start your entire life out in. And what Nakshatra you start your entire life out in really does set the tone for your life because that's where your beginning is. That's your perception right off the bat. Sort of like sets the line up for your for your whole life. So let's start with first of all the sign cancer being so hypersensitive and emotional. Cancer is the sign of family.
And people with a moon in Cancer are definitely family people. Now not always does that mean family matters go smoothly, but it does mean they are attached to their mother, their family, their home. That is so important when you have a moon in Cancer. But because cancer rules the moon, sometimes it's over the top to a point of an extreme.
The attachment to others, sensitivity, home feelings, the past. Remember the fourth house is relative to the fourth sign, cancer. And the fourth house is a house that does deal with the past and a sense of security. So. So people with the moon in cancer really need to feel a sense of security. And because it's such an intense sign for your moon to be in, sometimes they don't feel it or they're over the top. Extremists in terms of needing a sense of responsibility or security is what I really meant. Not responsibility, but a sense of security. They have to feel secure to be happy. And many times they're not secure because cancer is a sign that's over the top with feeling. And they can obsess about how they feel about things and of course not letting go of the past in certain memories. So let's talk about if you were born with your moon and the very first part of Cancer with which will be to 3 degrees 20 minutes. If your moon is from 0 to 3 degrees 20 minutes of cancer, then your moon sits in the Nakshatra. Poorna Vasu that Nakshatra is beautiful. It's return of the light, cast no shadows. This is probably one of the most powerful positions for the moon to be in because.
It has no judgment. It's a pure, clean Nakshatra, and it's ruled by Jupiter. So that means you start your whole life out in Jupiter's Maha Dasha, very significant and powerful. And it means generally, regardless of how Jupiter is placed in your chart, does mean that the early onset of your life's experience were pretty positive because Jupiter's expansion, Jupiter is knowledge, information. So life didn't start out on a bad note. But if your moon sits between 3 degrees, 20 minutes and 16 degrees, 40 minutes of the sign of cancer, that means your moon sits in the Nakshatra Pusha. And Pusha symbol is the cow's udder. So it represents nourishment. It represents feeling like you are being nourished and fed. That comes with a deep sense of security. And that will definitely give somebody a sense of who they are, secure and proud and nourished and able to nourish other people as well. So to provide other people with what they need, especially in the limelight of security. And I want to say that in this particular Nakshatra, you have to know that it is ruled by Briyashpati. Briashpati is the God of the gods. This is like the king of the kings. So this is a very powerful placement for your moon. As a matter of fact, they say when you have your moon in Pusha, you are a spiritual leader or you're a priest or you're a preacher, very knowledgeable and very much attuned to spirituality and truth, because Brihaspati actually the God, it's Jupiter. So it's like the king of the kings and the God of the gods. But I will say this, that at many points in time, Brihaspati and a moon in Pusha and very strong planets here can make someone a bit of a major teacher preacher. But remember when I say preacher that they can sometimes be over the top with their message and their rules and knowing it all.
But at the same time, they do know a lot. But they shouldn't have to push themselves on others, which I have seen can be when the moon in the sign or Jupiter even in the sign or this Nakshatra is over the top with. With pushing their knowledge and what they know. So, but still, all in all, they are the teacher. They are the teacher of the gods. They are well versed in everything. They just need to be a little bit more humble with their knowledge and information. But, you know, traditionally in Vedic astrology, to have the moon in Pusha, you are incredibly blessed. But what's interesting, Pusha is Ruled by Saturn. So Saturn is the planet that rules. What responsibility? And yes, the moon being in this portion of Cancer, you will be mega responsible. And you expect everyone else to be responsible just as you are responsible. Good abiding by the rules, virtues and all of the truth. But at the same time, you can't be too hard on others that aren't following the exact rules. But for the most part, you don't have any patience for those that are screwing up and don't want to follow the rules as you so diligently do.
You know, it kind of makes me think of people that are in the passing lane here in the United States. Y' all will get it chuckle out of this. You know, there's a passing lane. I've been many times to Europe and I appreciate that. The far left lane is where cars go in to pass other people. And let me remind you, they are going over the speed limit when they do so. But people with this rule consciousness in the United States, this never happens in Europe. In the United States, they will go in that passing lane and they will just sit there and go the speed limit. Not ever getting out of the way for the people that want to go forward. Because you know what? They think I'm going the speed limit. Everyone should go the speed limit. Why would they want to pass me? So that's kind of what I'm talking about. That lane is for passing. It is not for people just sitting there. But this happens all the time in the United States. It drives me crazy. Especially, especially Texas.
And once I go to Europe and on the autobahn, everyone, you know, is so appreciative of this particular rule where, you know. Anyway, I think you get my drift here. It's pretty funny. So brihaspati and pusha is like that very, very rigid rule consciousness. Because what is right is what is right. And there's no black and white with that. So the next. The next Nakshatra, if Your moon sits 16 degrees, 40 minutes and to the end of cancer to 30 degrees, then your moon sits in the Nakshatra. Aslatia. And aslaisha is the symbol, is the snake, the serpent. And that's a little scary. People kind of go, oh my God, you know, what do I do? I don't. I don't feel. Feel like this is part of who I am. But I find people that have their moon in Cancer in a Slatia are really brilliant. And they're actually extremely good business people because they have business smarts. Remember, a Slatia is ruled By Mercury. And Mercury is an intellectual, thinking mind. They're smart, but if it takes to the negative side, they can be devious and they can be controlling and they could possibly be very sneaky. But for the most part, I feel like people that have the moon in a Slatia are mesmerizing. They have that gaze, that look that they can put people into a trance. And actually this does mean people with the moon and Slacia are extremely, extremely metaphysical. They can be, they can hypnotize people, and they do. But don't forget the snake has very metaphysical connotations. Remember, the snake as it curves around is actually the symbol, the medical symbol for healing. And the snake can also represent the Kundalini energy as it rises and makes people awaken. So people with this Nakshatra on the positive level can be extraordinarily metaphysical and spiritual and awakened beings. This is the true power of a Slatia. But the darker side could be that they want to manipulate and control people. And people here with the moon here cannot take criticism. And through criticism, if you look at it as constructive and it helps you improve and get better. But they get really resistant when they have a moon in a Slatia and they're not evolved spiritually.
But going back one step to when your moon is in Pusha, Pusha is ruled by Saturn. Therefore, when you start your life out and your moon is in Pusha, you start out in Saturn's Maha Dasha. And that can mean that life is a little bit more restrictive. It's not so easy flowing. It can be difficult. Of course, it depends on how your Saturn's place. But overall, Saturn is restrictive and it can cause some setbacks and delays. And sometimes people with the moon and Pusha as children, that is what they will experience. But going on to a Slatia, if your moon is in a Slatia, then you start out your whole life cycle and in Mercury's Maha dasha. And that would probably mean because Mercury deals with intellect and mind, thinking, intelligence, that however long you're in Mercury, your mind is so active and you probably do extremely well in school, in education, and maybe even learn to speak early, because Mercury is all about communications. And that would be quite a different child that starts life out in Mercury's Maha Dasha rather than in Saturn's or in Jupiter's, but Jupiter being the first three degrees. 20 minutes of first three degrees. Excuse me. Yes, 20 minutes of the sign of cancer. Okay. So very different when you're. When your moon sits in one of these different Nakshatras. But Islatia can be the Nakshatra of awakening. That's what the snake represents. It represents metaphysical knowledge beyond this world and a waking up with the Kundalini energy. It is profound. So sometimes, as I said initially, a Slaya people can be phenomenal business people and, and I guarantee you they're very successful people that are in business and have their moon in a slatia. But overall, all three Nakshatras are going to be hypersensitive. Deep, deep feelings, connection to home and family and the difficulty that they may have to let go of the past. This is all relative to the sign of cancer. Cancer. To have the Moon in Cancer is very powerful. Emotionally strong feelings, strong emotions. Cancer is a cardinal sign. It's very action oriented. This is somebody that's going to get a lot done with the Moon in Cancer, but in a way that's very feeling and sensitive to others. Yes, they are. They get that feeling. So I want you to realize that this is a profound placement for the Moon and to never forget that your feelings are truly, truly important. And you can make a huge difference on the world with recognizing how you feel and others. Because one thing I always say is never deny how someone feels. Because when you do, you give them a great injustice. Because people, it's very important to not.
Tell someone their feelings are not valid. That is not the way to go. Especially with someone with the Moon in cancer. So with that, I'd like to close.
