Nakshatras Explained: The ANCIENT Secret Behind Vedic Predictions

YouTube lecture by Joni Patry introducing the 27 Nakshatras (Vedic lunar asterisms), their role in Vedic astrology and prediction, and how the moon's placement in a Nakshatra governs personality and life-timing via the Dasha system. The speaker connects Nakshatras to fixed stars, mythological deities, and the lunar calendar, gives Bharani as a detailed example, and contrasts Vedic (‘star-true’) with Western (tropical) astrology.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about the Nakshatras, what they are and of course how they're going to affect you personally, what it's all about, because you've heard me talk about the Nakshatras many times with probably no inkling of what they actually are. And what I always tell all of my students is that the Nakshatras are the pure essence of Vedic astrology. And these Nakshatras, actually the oldest reference to astrology has been cited in the Vedas. And that's actually why we call Vedic astrology Vedic because of its old references in the ancient Indian scriptures called the Vedas, which date back at least 3000 BC. So it goes way, way, way back. And in these Vedas there's references they note some of the Nakshatras. Now before I continue on, I want to remind everyone once again to sign up for my free newsletter. You will want to get all of my predictions delivered free to your email once a week. And also while you're there@ GalacticCenter.org I want you to notice my Patreon page. It's self paced, you can join anytime. So let's get going with what I want you to know about the 27 Nakshatra. So if you take the 360 degree Zodiac, the wheel of the horoscope, the zodiac and divide it up into 27 portions, each portion would be 13 degrees, 20 minutes. And the reason why this is so significant is because this is the daily motion of of the moon every day. So the moon stays in one Nakshatra per day. And this is actually what puts together.
The lunar calendar in India. So the 27, 28 day cycle of the lunar calendar and the lunar calendar is so significant. I mean it's Even the cycle that a woman's body goes through every month. And this is so deep and meaningful. And to me, this has more validity and reference, the lunar calendar than the Julian calendar that we use in the West. I mean, the Julian calendar has been put together and the months of July and August were fought over by Julius and Augustus Caesar. And they wanted to have months with 31 days. That's why you get July and August next to each other and they're both 31 days. The lunar calendar is more organic and works with the world the way it really is. And I always say that Vedic astrology is a lunar based system based on the nakshatras, because these 27 nakshatras, it depends on where your moon is, what Nakshatra your moon is in. This determines not only so much about who you are in your personality, but it actually determines when everything in your life will unfold. That is why I stress how important your moon is in your chart and in Vedic astrology. Because the Dasha system that is the most powerful, amazing, predictive tool that we have in Vedic astrology is actually based on what Nakshatra your moon is in.
Because all of the 27 Nakshatras are actually ruled by a planet, such as the first nakshatra, Ashwini, which is 0 degrees of Aries to 13 degrees, 20 minutes of Aries and ruled by Ketu. And then you go to the next Nakshatra, which is Bharani, the next 13 degrees, 20 minutes and it's ruled by Venus. So each of these Nakshatras have a planet that rules them. So depending on where your moon is in your chart, what Nakshatra, the planet that rules your moon's Nakshatra begins your whole life life cycle of your life. So therefore, this determines when everything unfolds in your life. The whole Dasha scheme is based on the Nakshatras. And another thing that I absolutely love about the Nakshatras is not only their symbology and the mythology behind them, all all the Indian myths that give them richness and meaning.
But the stars that are in Those groupings of 13 degrees, 20 minutes are what actually give the Nakshatras their meanings. So you see, this is star based. And actually a Nakshatra is called an asterism. And asterism simply means star. So this takes the whole Vedic system system to the point of how rich and deep it is in terms of it brings in the true meanings of the stars. And this is universal. This is one of the reasons why I believe Vedic Astrology is so much more specific when it comes to prediction. Because when you're taking in the stars, this is so deep, rich and powerful. And not only that the stars are moving, but they move so slow. And this is actually the movement of the stars are what depict the whole procession of the equinoxes. You've heard the whole cycles of humanity that go through this.
26,000 year cycle of when we go through all these different signs.
It takes about 26,000 years for us to go through all of these.
Signs. And the relevance of the meanings of the stars here, what give the Nakshatras their meanings. So another thing is Vedic astrology is true to the stars. In other words, as the stars are moving and they move backwards in the Zodiac 1 degree every 72 years. So in the totality of it going through all 12 of the signs, this is what takes 26,000 years. And this is the whole cyclic process of precession. You probably heard of the procession of the equinoxes. That's what this is about. And this really, really dictates the consciousness of humanity. This is how deep this goes. And this is the relevance to the 27 nakshatras. And actually Nakshatra means that which never decays.
That which never decays, the stars. These are the universe. This is what keeps not just humanity going, but the universe. This is a part of the universe which really takes us to a much deeper, profound level. And, and as I said, it's true to the stars. So therefore the fixed stars that are so meaningful in these Nakshatras will always stay in these Nakshatras. What I mean by that, these are the stars are moving. So the heart of the lion, which is Regulus, will always be in Leo. How can you say it's in Virgo? But Western astrologers say that they move the stars as they move. They don't keep them true to their constellations. And therefore they would say that Regulus, which is the heart of the lion, is in Virgo. That just doesn't fit as well as Antares, which is the tail of the scorpion. It cannot be in Sagittarius, nor can the eye of the bull, which is Aldebaran, means the red one, the red eye of the bull, it's got to be in Taurus, not in Gemini. So this is where I really resonate to the deep meanings of what Vedic astrology is, is all about where it comes from. It's about the Nakshatras. And what's interesting is a lot of people Say, oh, my sun sign can't be in the sign that Vedic puts it in, or any of my planets, because it falls backwards right now because of procession. The beginning of the Zodiac is in Pisces. And this is the, this is what pushes all the planets into the signs that fall backwards in the Vedic chart. So this is the true placements in accordance to the stars. That's what this is based on, the stars. This is star based. And the stars are the universe, the universal deep soul of a person. This is going to relate to your soul on the deepest core level of who you really are, not just the personality that you think you are from lifetime to lifetime. This is talking about your soul, essence, who you truly are. That's what Vedic astrology points to and reveals. This is how it resonates. But people that say I don't resonate with my signs in the Vedic aren't looking at the nakshatras because there's three nakshatras in each sign. They overlap the 13 degree, 20 minutes. So you may have a moon in Aries, but it might be in a Sweeney. Then it might be in Bahraini, which is the next one. And then when you get to other signs, sometimes you can have other Nakshatras, three of them within a sign. So, for example, Bharani goes from 13 degrees 20 minutes to 26 degrees, 40 minutes of Aries. So the very last part of Aries, 26 degrees, 40 minutes till the end of the sign of Aries. And actually it flanks into Taurus. 10 degrees is Kritica. So your sun could be an Aries, but it could be an Ashwini or Baharani or Kritika. And that gives it a complete, completely different feeling and meaning. When you look at what Nakshatras your planets are in, not just the sign. Remember, there's 30 degrees to a sign and each sign will have a portion of three Nakshatras.
So this is what really gives astrology its true meaning and depth, the meanings. And each Nakshatra, by the way, has a symbol, and each Nakshatra has a myth behind it. And each Nakshatra has stars that give them the meaning within that portion of the Zodiac as well as you're even going to find the planet that rules that Nakshatra gives it meaning. But there's the mythology, the deity, the star. So there's also a deity. So, for example, just taking the Nakshatra, Bharani. Bharani means the bearer of new life, because that Nakshatra, which sits between 13 degrees 20 minutes of Aries to 26 degrees, 40 minutes. And of Aries, it's all. This Nakshatra is all completely in the sign of Aries. Some of them flank from a sign.
But it's simple. Its symbol is called the Yoni, which is the uterus, the woman's uterus, and the organ for reproduction. And this Nakshatra deals with birth, the birthing process, because of its symbol. It means new births are born. But it's kind of a difficult Nakshatra in many respects. And what I surmise with that is to be born is painful. We go through this birthing process that is not easy painful, but it brings us to a brand new beginning. And that's symbolic of this Nakshatra. Its deity is Yama, which is actually the God of death. So this deals with birth and death. And that's one of the reasons why this is not an easy Nakshatra. But the stars that are in it are Almak, which is a binary star which is in. In the left foot of Andromeda. And its symbolic meaning is honors and artistic ability. So you see, there's also the stars that come in, but it's also the mythology. And the mythology goes through Yama, and that Yama was.
A God, but he decided he wanted to experience the death process that humans go through. And he went through that death process. And therefore, this is about rebirth. And that's what this whole mythology with.
Yama going into being a man to experience that. But here's another symbolic reason with that.
Because he was the first God to do such a thing. This Nakshatra actually equates to being the first to do something.
If you have this Nakshatra strong in your chart, that means you are the first to do something in your family of origin, or whether it means the first to move to a new country, whether it means the first to graduate from college, whether the first to do something substantial in your life that no one in your family of origin has done. That's what it means. And it's actually called the Star of Restraint because it is difficult and can deal with the struggles of birthing something new. And it also means that when you're in a position.
Where you feel like you've outgrown it, then you got to go through this process and break free into a new world. But this is just an idea. This is just one Nakshatra. And Bharani is ruled by Venus, which gives it the artistic ability that they have. But all of this is in the sign of Aries. You don't think of all these things initially with Aries. Yes, I think of Aries as a sign of new beginnings, fresh starts, pioneers, the first to do something many times. But all these Aries meanings actually come from the stars and the Nakshatras. So I gave you just a little taste of this. Now, if you want to know about all the 27 nakshatras I actually have in my YouTube channel, if you go down and you search, I have all 27 nakshatras that I filmed a while ago that are in the in this YouTube channel. You can go watch them all. And we study the Nakshatras profoundly and deeply in the universe. And as a matter of fact, I was taking notes from my book on Eastern astrology for Western minds. It is actually the textbook for my university. And it goes through the mythology, the stars.
What the saying is, what the symbol is, what the God or goddess that rules that Nakshatra is all about. This is astrology.
Going profound and deep. This is the true essence of the stars. This is what astrology means to me. Going profound and going deep and realizing that Vedic astrology is true to the stars. And that's where I want to leave you. And I want you to know the 27 nakshatras, that which never decays, represents our soul, essence and humanity. So with that, I think I'll close. If you would like more information on me or anything I was talking about, go to my website, go to Galactic Center.org. thank you.
