Saturn transits into Capricorn

Joni Patry explains Saturn as the karmic enforcer of discipline and responsibility in Vedic astrology, with a roughly 28-year cycle. Saturn's transit into Capricorn from January 2020 brings structural reform, generational change, and focus on elder care, favoring consolidation over expansion during this period of strong Saturnian influence.

I'm Joni Petrie and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I want to talk about the significance of Saturn and also relative to the fact that it will be changing signs January 24 from Sagittarius into the sign of Capricorn. And remember, I am talking about the Vedic sidereal chart, not the tropical western astrology. But Saturn in and of itself is this powerful, powerful planet of what Karma. Saturn is the planet that teaches us our most hardest lessons. And I've always said that Saturn is never all that fun. Whereas Jupiter is about abundance and expansion and parties, Saturn is about getting serious. Saturn is the time when we grow up. Because when we have our Saturn return, when Saturn returns back to the sign that it was when we were born, it takes approximately 20, 28 to 30 years. So the cycle of Saturn takes through all 12 signs, 28 to 30 years, depending on where you're born. If it was going retrograde or direct, it could fill in to a year and a half difference. But let's talk about the cycle of Saturn and what Saturn really means for all of us, because so many people, you know, we don't like Saturn. But I want to say that Saturn will give you your greatest rewards because Saturn concerns the things that we work for. Now, when things are given to you and you don't have to work for them, generally we don't appreciate them as much. But when we put in the hard work, the labor, the responsibility, the discipline that it takes the to achieve things, to acquire things, this is going to involve Saturn. And Saturn gives us our just rewards. And once again, we appreciate it more. We feel like we've achieved something great when we put in the effort and the work to get there. This is what Saturn is all about. Saturn is the taskmaster, where we really have to be number one, disciplined, focused, organized. And most of all, if you don't have the responsibility, the sense of responsibility, you will not put into force the discipline, the focus, everything that it takes to achieve, to grow in this world. Saturn's really about our growth as we evolve and grow in our awareness, our consciousness, and as we mature. Saturn is maturity. And through maturity, that's where we come to really know things. Because it is experience that really teaches us. I mean, you could tell somebody of the younger generation what it's like, what, what you had to do to get to where you're going, but they will never truly understand it till they've done it themselves. So it's about experience and maturity. And as you live and learn these lessons, that's where it has the biggest impact and it's more meaningful and it has its effect on you. Yes, we can try to teach people about the lessons that we've gone through, but. But they'll never truly get it till they've been there and done it themselves. So Saturn is that power. And Saturn, as I said, it gives you your just rewards. So if you have worked hard and you have put in the hours and you've put in the effort, you will be rewarded. Because what you put out, you're going to get back. But if you've blown off things, you weren't responsible, guess what? Saturn will give you your rewards again, which will be in not achieving and getting there. So what? Saturn is the physical reality of this world. It is the physical manifestation of things and it deals with our sense of doing, responsibility, our discipline. You know, if we didn't have Saturn, we wouldn't have anything because we need all of these things for achievement and hard work, to build things. Think about all the buildings, all the skylines, all the roads, all the things that have been built in this world. It's because of Saturn, not because of Jupiter. Jupiter is like, you know, Jupiter does give opportunities, but Jupiter doesn't give you that experience that Saturn does. Therefore, the knowledge, the wisdom, remember this. Saturn is wisdom. And Jupiter just gives opportunities, expansion. Jupiter's a big party going on. Yeah, we have fun with Jupiter, but we don't get as much done. We need the structure of Saturn. So the structure is what builds things. And you know, they say that Saturn even rules our skeleton. That gives our body form and structure. It rules the bones, it also rules the skin that keeps everything together because that's what gives form and structure. That's what Saturn is. So don't go around talking bad about Saturn because we absolutely have to have it. It's just sometimes it does wear us out. It deals with work and sometimes we feel overwhelmed with too much Saturn. Saturn also rules restrictions, pulling back.
Making it so that we restrict, we consolidate when we have a Saturn transit. Whereas with the Jupiter transit, yes, it's time to expand, make things bigger. But that's not always what we need to be doing. It is a time to consolidate and restrict, pull back, slow down. And that's another thing. As we get older, Saturn rules the elderly. But it also deals the wise, inexperienced soul in person and deep karmic realizations because it deals with the karmas that we're here to learn. That's what Saturn will teach us and tell us where it's placed, what house and what sign it's in in our chart. That's where our karmas come from. If it's in the seventh house, you're going to learn through relationships. And if it is in your seventh house, it is extraordinarily strong. Why? Because it gets digbala. That means directional strength. It's most powerful in the seventh house. In the first house you're going to feel like responsibility is always heavy on you. You always have to make others feel like you're taking care of them. You are the disciplined one and you take care of others. With Saturn in the first, when it's in the second, it's going to be about financial matters that you're serious about and childhood experiences are difficult. Since the second house deals with childhood experience experiences. In the third house, Saturn's going to deal with the limitations or problems you may have or that you don't have any siblings.
And you may have trouble in school or you try really hard those efforts. That's Saturn in the third, Saturn in the fourth. The mother is not normally very warm, loving. They can be detached. They can be a little intellectual at times, but detached, not that warm fuzzy feeling.
If it's in the fifth, there's a responsibility towards children and you may wait till you're a little bit older to have children with Saturn in the fifth. As Saturn's in the sixth house, there is this discipline and focus around work. You would never consider being late to work. You're ultra mega responsible and it can also have its effects on your health. You could be serious about health matters and with it in the seventh, the karma does resolve and revolve around being responsible for your partner. And many times you stay in a relationship longer than you should. If it's in the eighth house, they say many times it can extend life. You live a long time, but it may not be quality. Saturn in the eighth house means inheritances may not come through as you expect. If Saturn's in the ninth, there's this just separation or coldness with the father. Maybe the father was really strict and hard on you, or maybe he represented something that you want to follow and be like. Saturn in the 10th house means you are very serious about your career. You work hard, you put in the hours, and sometimes it means you work for others or the government. If Saturn's in the 11th, you limit the amount of friends or people you hang out with. But the friends you do have, you've known for a very long time. Old friends, few friends, but important friends are important to you. If Saturn's in the 12th, you have a hard time letting go of the past. And that's exactly what you have to do. And you may even have some issues with sleep. So you see, as Saturn goes through all the houses and it will have its effects on you. Let me talk a little bit about Saturn as it goes into the sign of Capricorn, as Saturn goes into the sign of Capricorn. Capricorn is all about government responsibilities. Saturn will be in its own sign in Capricorn. This makes it incredibly strong. The last time Saturn was in Capricorn was in the year of 1961. So Saturn, because it stays in a sign for two and a half years, I get that. Saturn will enter into the sign of Capricorn January 24th of 2020, and it will remain there till the year of 2023. January 18th of 2020,23. So that looks like it's there for approximately three years, give and take. It's about two and a half years that it stays in a sign.
So during this time, as it transits through your different houses, depending on what your ascendant sign will be very, very important for you to better understand this cycle of Saturn. But let me talk about what it means for the world at large and globally. Because Saturn being in Capricorn will change government affairs just as it did in 1961. That was the beginning of the 60s of revolution. Change, breakdown of the old, making way for the new, in what area? Government. Government is what this is all about. And let me just say Saturn really does indicate something to do with new generations, especially in Capricorn, the breakaway from the old generations that wanted to control and do things. And Saturn being the elderly, I believe while it's in Capricorn, it will have something to do with taking care of elderly. Something will change in terms of longevity and long in terms of how we deal with the elderly and how we take care of the elderly. And plus it will have something to do with extending life, longevity, while Saturn is strong in the sign of Capricorn. So.
So going back to the myths, let me give you a little sense of what Saturn's about. And Saturn does have a lot to do with fear because in Vedic astrology, Saturn is Shani and Shani.
Father was Surya and mother was Chaya. Chaya was the shadow.
So this deals with a little bit of the darkness and the heaviness that Saturn can be about. Saturn, let me put it this way, can rule depression. And when people have Saturn conjunct the moon, they will have bouts throughout their life. Of what depression the Moon is the mind, how we think Saturn with Mercury will deal with, how we learn, being serious, being focused. People with Saturn with Mercury can be authors because that takes a serious focus. So Saturn being with any planets makes it contract and serious and focus.
And sometimes it's heavy and shadowy. Now, going to the Greek mythology, Saturn is Kronos. And Kronos was the one that was overthrown by their son, which was actually Jupiter, Zeus. So Saturn being Kronos, as in the effect, the symbology of the sun overthrowing the father can represent the issues that the sun has with measuring up to being with the father. But I think what that really symbolizes is the differences of generations and how generations are different. And they have problems trying to understand each other because they, they're in a different time dealing with different things. So there's this breakaway or problem with the father son that is part of the symbology of Saturn, the old versus the new. And the old can't usually understand the new or the young, the youthful. So there's going to be this big transition with Saturn going into Capricorn, the breaking away of the old, the way government affairs were conducted before, and the birth of the new. And because it's society and government, this is what is about to transform. As Saturn goes into Capricorn, just as it did in the year of 1961, there was a huge breakaway and break away from the old people that were older in government, giving birth to younger generations in government. So that's something to think about as well.
Saturn will be there for quite some time. But let's talk a little bit about Capricorn in terms of. Saturn will be for the first part, while it enters Capricorn, there is a new Moon on that day on January 24th, representing this is a new awakening into a new era with Saturn coming into Capricorn. And I want to say it's going to be in the Nakshatra when it enters into Capricorn, Uttara Ashata. Uttara Ashata's Nakshatra extends from 26 degrees, 40 minutes of Sagittarius to 10 degrees of Capricorn. And so while Saturn is In the first 10 degrees of Capricorn, it is in Uttara Ashata, which always means bringing forth the. And so the truth is going to prevail throughout this coming year of 2020 and on into 2021. There is going to be a magnificent transition with Saturn being in the sign of Capricorn and the old dies out in order to be reborn to the new. And there's going to be all sorts of new things built out of this Saturn in Capricorn and organization, power in an organization and structure and change. And Capricorn is the sign of money and.
Success in terms of career. So things will be built around finding new career positions for the world and work. This is what Capricorn is all about, responsibility and work. And so therefore new jobs will be built, there'll be opportunities for everyone. Things are going to change, governments are going to change and take into account the masses and the people that need help. So with that I'd like to close. That's a lot. Saturn's heavy, heavy, heavy. And a lot of heavy things and change are about to transform. But they are necessary things that we all need. Saturn is what we need. So with that I'd like to close.
