World Lesson; Unity or Separation

Joni Patry argues that global fear and polarization come from feeling separated from each other, and that unity is the answer. People seek belonging through family, friendship, religion, and community, but turn to gangs and extremism when positive connection is missing. She draws on her book Awaken to the Power within you.

Hi, I'm Joni Petrie, and welcome to my YouTube channel. Well, today I'd like to create a series. This is the first of a series where I'm going to be talking about different tools and techniques and realizations from my newly released book, Awaken to the Power within you. And today's lesson, I want to be about the most important thing that is really happening today, globally, in the world. And it involves a sense of feeling separate, feeling so polarized, isolated from one another, because now is the time that we are to learn unity.
And let me explain a little bit about where we are right now. Because we feel like we are so separate from everyone else, but in the reality of things, we are actually all one. You've heard this many times, but it doesn't really have that sense till you really consider the fact that when we are all spirit, when we're not in these bodies, we are all one. It's pretty hard to conceive of because being here in these bodies, in this world, we all feel so separate.
But the thing that is going to cure the sense of fear in isolation in this world comes from a sense of unity. Now, the way that we feel connected to other people, feel this sense of unity, is that we come together in groups, we have families, we have a sense of connectedness to other people. And for those people that don't have that sense of connectedness in any way, through family, through friends, through marriage.
They'Re going to find a way to feel connected. And sometimes these are not the most positive ways because it's the only way that they feel like they can be connected. That can come through.
Sort of gangs, mafia, negative ways where people really do feel a sense of togetherness that even comes through the sense of. Of isis, these, these terrorist organizations that give people a sense of unity. Now, I'm not saying that that's the way to go. I'm just saying this is what causes people to connect in such a way, because everyone needs to feel a sense of unity. And.
And this is our desire, our ultimate desire is to feel connected, to feel understood, to feel heard by other people. This makes us feel validated. So we need to feel a sense of validation through others. And if you think you can live your life all alone without other people, you're wrong. Because we came here in this world to, to work and be together and learn through each other. That's a part of this dimension with humanity. Now here's something interesting. One of the things that brings us together is holidays or religion. Whether they're religious birthdays, national holidays, depending on where you are in the world, you will have different days that we will honor. And in a way, they're ritualistic ways that we honor to make things that are not so special, special. So holidays, they give meaning to life. So what would we do without birthdays? It's a day that we get to feel special, we get to honor everyone comes together in your honor. It's fun. We have to have these, these days that bring people together. And what about religious holidays such as Christmas, Ramadan, Any of these special days that we feel connected in a belief system that brings us together so we don't feel so separate. But always remember in holidays, the fourth of July in the United States, the French Independence Day, Bastille Day, all these give us a reason to make the things in our life meaningful. It gives life meaning and it brings us together with others in a positive connection. So this is another thing that we do that is a part of bringing people together. Now the other thing that I think is so relevant right now is the issue around religion. Now, religion, every place in the world has a certain religion and some places other religions are incorporated, whatever, but religion was meant to unite one another. It was to bring people together. Now I know that during these critical times, it seems like religion is the thing that tears us apart the very most. But that wasn't the intention originally. It was to bring people together with the sense of goodness, to help people be their best spiritually. I mean, that's the core essence. But realize that when you force your beliefs on other people, this is not truly the unity that religion was meant originally to put into the world. So during these critical times, the message that I want for you to come together with from all of these different variables that I mention in the chapter on unity, which involves separation, validation through others, which gives a sense of unity. Holidays and rituals, how that brings us together with a sense of unity, how religion was meant to unite but somehow has caused separation in the world. I want this message to be that you have to realize that everything we do is really to come together with a sense of unity. And if you feel disconnected or separate from others, find way to totally unite yourself and feel validated with other people of like mindedness that are trying to change and make the world a better place. With this you're going to create, you're going to eliminate the fears that you've had in your life. So this is the lesson which I believe is unity. And I want to give a quote from one of my long standing favorite authors, and it is Kahil Gibran, and this was one of his quotes talking about religion. He says, the truly religious man does not embrace religion, and he who embraces one has no religion. So I don't think that that is like putting religion down, really talking about what religion was meant to be, to unite and bring people together with a commonality that brings unity of humanity together. So with that, I'd like to close.
