Jonny Miller explains that raw emotions naturally peak and fade in 20 to 30 seconds. When you hit your limit, you can either use regulation tools like breathing and grounding, or in safe spaces, let yourself cry or shout it out. The key is knowing which move fits the moment.

I think there is a choice point when we're kind of on the edge of our capacity. Either do some form of self regulation, just like a simple sympathetic sigh. It could be a just grounding, could be like looking at a wide horizon, doing some breathing affirmations. Or if it's a suitable environment, it's feel the thing. It's allow this emotion that I'm resisting to just flow through me. Maybe you just like, shout at a wall. Maybe you let a couple of tears come through, you know, that can last like 20, 30 seconds, and then you're like, oh, oh my God, I feel so much better. The skill here is learning the tools and practices for emotional fluidity and self regulation and then being able to apply them at a relevant time or context.
