Meet Graham Cochrane
9 Oct 2020 · 8 min
Jordan Raynor promotes a course he co-created with entrepreneur Graham Cochrane called "From Knowledge to Income." He recounts Graham’s origin story (lost jobs in 2008, began blogging about niche music-recording gear, earned $60,000 after two years, six figures the next year, and now runs a multimillion-dollar business while working about five hours per week). The course (~6–7 hours across ~20+ modules) teaches four areas: creating content, building simple websites, launching digital products, and automated email sales. Raynor frames passive income through a Christian lens—arguing it should enable service, generosity, and kingdom work—and directs listeners to a free preview at jordanraynor.com/knowledge.

If you've been listening since the beginning of this podcast, you might remember our very first episode with my good friend Graham Cochran. By the way, if you haven't heard that episode, I would highly encourage you to go listen to it. Episode number one. It's one of my favorites still to this day. Why? Well, number one, Graham's just one of my favorite people in the world, but he's also one of the most impressive entrepreneurs I know. If you guys remember Graham's story, after the Great Recession in 2008, Graham lost two jobs. He and his family were living on food stamps. And that's when Graham really started blogging and youtubing about this really obscure knowledge he had about music recording equipment. It doesn't get more niche and more obscure than that. Well, after blogging about it for a couple years, two years later, Graham made $60,000 off that blog. The year after that, he earned six figures. And today, that business is a multimillion dollar annual revenue stream. And here's the catch. He only spends five hours a week managing that business. Now, I know a lot of you guys are hurting right now, right? These economic times are tough, to say the least. And I also know, based on previous survey data that we've collected, even more of you are interested in finding an income stream like. Like the one that Graham has created. One that's predictable, flexible, one that you can manage from home in just a few hours a week. Not so you can kick back on the beach and, you know, take an early retirement, but so that you can be more efficient for the sake of the gospel. You can be more efficient as you pursue mastery of your craft for the glory of God and the good of others. And you pursue excellence at home and at work. That's why I partnered with Graham to bring you a brand new course from Jordan Rayner and company, which will walk you through the step by step process that Graham has taught hundreds of people who have replicated his results. The course is called From Knowledge to income. How to build your online presence, sell your knowledge, and create an automated income stream. Guys, the content on this thing is gold. My team and I have watched all six, almost seven hours of the course, and it is truly exceptional. It's exceptional. The course covers four main areas. Number one, creating powerful content that people want. Number two, building a really simple website. Even if you've never touched a line of code in your life, Graham's going to show you how to build a simple website that captures new prospective customers every single day. Graham talks about, number three, launching irresistible digital products, whether it's a YouTube channel or a podcast or an online course or a membership site or whatever. And finally, number four, Graham teaches you how to set up automated email systems that sell those products while you focus on other things, whatever you want to focus on. In between each of the lessons in the course, I think there's a total of, I don't know, something like 20 something modules in this course. I come on camera and join Graham for a series of short connection conversations where I remind you and Graham reminds you of our shared why as believers, namely the Gospel and how the gospel shapes the process of building this type of business. And hey guys, you can actually watch that first connection conversation and the first super valuable how to lesson of the course absolutely free right now@jordanraynor.com knowledge. That's jordanraynor.com knowledge. And of course that link is right here in the show notes. And no, we're not going to ask you to give us your email address. We're not going to ask you to create an account so that you can watch that video. It's freely available. Literally, it's just embedded right there on the page. Click play and you can watch it right now. By the way, the topic of that first connection conversation is one of my all time favorites you guys have heard me talk about on the podcast before. It's me ranting against the four Hour Work Week, which if you've been listening to this so far, you're probably thinking, huh, this sounds a lot like the four Hour Work Week. You know, I mentioned this in Master of One in my previous book. I've always had a love hate relationship with this book, the four Hour Work Week. This book that's been responsible for making this, you know, quote unquote passive income business model really famous. You know, I love the four Hour Workweek because I think the book's author, Tim Ferriss offers some really brilliant, really practical tips for how we can be exponentially more productive. Right? But I strongly disagree with the reasons why so many people subscribe to Ferriss's Life Hacks, Right? Most of Tim Ferriss disciples that I've met over the last decade are just desperately trying to figure out how they can work less, how they can do the bare minimum amount of work they need to support their luxury lifestyle and jet set around the world and spend their days kicking back on a hammock on the beach. And that is not the opposite of what Scripture calls us to as Christ followers. Sure, the Bible is clear. We should enjoy the good gifts God has given us. But as the life of Christ so beautifully demonstrates, we are not here on this earth primarily to maximize our pleasure. Our purpose isn't to use the world, but to be of the utmost use to the world and extend the rule and the reign of King Jesus. Our purpose is to glorify God and love others through our work, through our families, through our lives, thereby reflecting the life of Christ. Let me be crystal clear. The secular story of passive income is a false gospel. It's about focusing on yourself and gaining elusive freedom and living your best life now. And as Christians, we know that true freedom is found in Christ alone. Period. Full stop, and working to advance his mission in the world. But can we leverage the principles of the four hour work week and the information that Graham is sharing in this course to be more efficient in doing good works for others? Absolutely. And we should. Can we use an automatic income stream to provide more career opportunities, opportunities for more people, and do more ministry within the four walls of our businesses? Absolutely. Can we use these crazy profitable income streams as vehicles for radical generosity for the gospel? Yes, of course we can. Graham is a prime example that all of those things can be true. He hasn't built his automatic income stream as a path to an early retirement. He's building great wealth to advance kingdom causes. And now he's teaching you to do the exact same thing. So again, if you're interested in hearing more about Graham's and my perspective on passive income businesses and how to build one of these things, you can watch the first connection conversation in the first lesson of the course right now, absolutely free at jordanraynier.com knowledge that's jordanraynor.com knowledge.
