Now Cameron, let's discuss Hollywood's fast fix to losing weight. And when I say fast, well, I mean fasting.
This is something that you and I know a little bit about. Stars like Jennifer Aniston and J.Lo have supposedly done this diet at one time or another. It's called intermittent fasting, but lots of questions like, is it good for you and does it work? Well, I had to find out.
For me, intermittent fasting is probably the most effective technique I've ever ever discovered, and it's the hottest thing in Hollywood where everyone from Hugh Jackman to J.Lo are doing this. Who are some of the celebrities that you train and you work with? I've been working with Steve Harvey, been working with Brooke Burke. She's in better shape now at 46 than she was in her 20s. I've had the privilege of even working with Khloe Kardashian for Revenge Body, and my career started with Oprah 20 years ago.
People hear the word fasting and they just freak out. So what is intermittent fasting?
Intermittent fasting is where you eat for an 8-hour window and you fast Uh, for 16 hours. It's the most effective way. You can drop up to a pound a day if you do this right.
Celebrity trainer Jorge Cruise says if the first meal of the day is eaten around 11 AM, then the last bite should be around 7 PM. He says that during those 16 food-free hours, your body burns stored-up fat and has a chance to repair itself.
Sometimes they shut down the freeway. Why? To do repair work. Well, you have to stop eating to let your body repair itself.
When it is time to eat, Jorge recommends a diet that consists of whole foods and healthy fats.
About 50% fat, about 40% protein, and the rest in carbs.
Think deviled eggs, cauliflower crust pizza, sweet potatoes, fresh vegetables, and as a treat, avocado cupcakes. If you do get hungry during that fasting zone, Cruise suggests you can drink hot coffee or tea spiked with fat.
This is just a cup of coffee— Okay. —with a teaspoon of, uh, butter, or you can use coconut oil, and a pinch of Himalayan sea salt.
Cruise also suggests incorporating short bursts of high-intensity interval training, or HIIT. Hit for maximum results. But intermittent fasting is not for everyone. Dr. Travis Stork from The Doctors has a word of caution.
Anyone with a pre-existing medical condition, it's, it's not worth it. If you're going to do it, make sure you're healthy, run it by your doctor, and do it smartly.
