Joseph Casciani asks how to help someone with severe knee pain who avoids walking. Staying still weakens the muscles supporting the knee, accelerating joint degeneration. The key is finding comfortable ways to move and strengthen the muscles around the joint, not avoiding activity altogether.
What would you say to someone who's avoiding walking because of their terrible knee pain? What do you, how would you advise them? Buy a Nemo. Buy a Nemo. Okay, quick answer. Yeah.
I mean, I think for me, I understand the instinct, right? You feel like you're protecting yourself, but all the research is showing that the inactivity is actually working against you, right? It's weakening the muscles. It's putting you into this cycle, right? The cycle of less activity, which weakens the structures around the knee and eventually leads to more joint degeneration. So I think finding ways to stay comfortable and stay moving is really important. And, you know, you look for solutions that work for you. Yeah.
Yeah, you're right. Yeah, I mean, the person who says, well, it's just too painful. I'd rather stay at home and sit on my sofa and I can avoid that unbearable knee pain.
