Two speakers question why stimulant medications like Adderall are prescribed to children as young as six or seven, often for parental convenience rather than medical need. They argue that diet, exercise, screen time, and outdoor play should be tried first, since many behavioral problems stem from environment, not brain chemistry.
Medication is thrown out so easily now, more than ever. I see it with children especially. I have friends who have kids that are 6, 7 years old, and half the kids are on Adderall because they're like, oh, they're, you know, they have ADD, they have this. And I'm just like, they're boys, let them run outside for an hour. See this?
Medications are for the convenience of the parents.
I feel like we need to just have a whole grasp of what everything that we are doing, from food, exercise, our mental wellness, the people we're surrounding ourselves with, television screens, all sorts of things like that can really impact our health. Try to take little things away from them gradually, and you see differences. You see your kid have sugar and chocolate and they're bouncing off the wall, it's because of what they ate. Really be, um, be a detective. Yeah. Be conscious of what you're doing with yourself and with your child.
