Joy Kong and colleagues designed a urine test that screens for 50 diseases at once. One sample generates data that 50 separate disease models can interpret. Their first study tests four conditions—Crohn's disease, celiac disease, SIBO, and colorectal cancer—to prove it works beyond cancer.
We picked our study from celiac, SIBO, colorectal cancer specifically so we can demonstrate the technology works across different types of conditions, not just oncology.
Well, this 50+ diseases, which are they and how did you pick them?
50 was a number that we kind of picked out of the air. We said, you know, what would define success? If we can build a single urine test that essentially you pee in the cup once, you run it through the laboratory instrument once, you get a data file. And then if we have 50 models for 50 conditions, we can give you a panel of 50 diseases. But 50 was kind of the, you know, wouldn't it be wonderful if we can do 50? Because in reality, you know, 50 conditions cover a lot of ground, especially because technology is not only limited to oncology. You know, we picked our study Crohn's, celiac, SIBO, colorectal cancer specifically so we can demonstrate that technology works across different types of conditions, not just oncology. And so that was part of the reason we built our first study that way.
