Joy Kong, MD, explains TCM as a system-oriented approach that views the body as interconnected organs and meridians, using metaphorical language like "26 alphabets forming a symphony." She contrasts this with Western medicine's reductionist focus and suggests integrating both through functional or anti-aging medicine.

Doctor Joy, what are your thoughts on Chinese medicine? Well, it's actually very poetic. Chinese medicine actually looks at the body as a whole with multiple organs connected through meridians.
And they look at the.
Body as a web with all these incredible relationships. But somehow, through thousands of years of wisdom, is summarizing them into a system approach using the language of metaphors, which is really quite different from Western medicine because Western medicine is trying to dissect everything to the basic levels. We're linking relationship from A to B.
However, think of.
Chinese medicine as 26 alphabets all talking to each other at the same time, forming sentences and words, as looking at an entire system in a symphony. This is why in Western medicine it's very hard to understand what Chinese medicine is talking about because it's using a whole different language.
However, Western.
Medicine has great contribution to science because we're actually able to understand the nitty gritty details of how each relationship is working.
So both are important.
Trying to integrate the two is a challenge until I ran into functional medicine or anti aging medicine, which is using the Eastern wisdom to look at relationships, but then also able to figure out what's going on on the very individual level. I think combining the two will give the most power to medicine and we'll be mistaken if we try to ignore any one of them.
So are you interested.
