Dr. Joy Kong says most doctors won't recommend stem cell therapies because they don't actively seek emerging research, not because evidence doesn't exist. Patients have to find and evaluate the latest data themselves, or they risk being denied access to treatments that could help them.

You may go to your doctor saying, "Yeah, I'm thinking about doing stem cells." Your primary care doctor or a specialist, some are very open-minded and will say, "Go." They've seen some science and they are very encouraged by it and they encourage people to pursue it. But probably the majority of doctors, they are conservative. They tend to have the attitude of, "Show me first." The problem is that if you don't look for the evidence to show you, then you're just waiting for people to come knock on your door and show it to you. Good luck. So you have to be somewhat adventurous and open-minded in order to find the evidence, because a lot of doctors are not looking for the evidence. So their conclusion was that the evidence did not exist. So that's unfortunate because that's doing patients a disservice.
