Short video discussion (Joy Kong, MD) highlighting that drops in testosterone levels have substantial negative effects on cardiovascular health and may shorten lifespan; the clip includes a request to quantify the degree of reduction and its consequences.
For every drop of testosterone level, there's a big, big impact on their cardiovascular health and on their longevity.
Right.
Can you break that down a little bit about just what kind of degree of a reduction and what kind of consequences?
Most men without the testosterone, we start to notice insulin resistance, which we all know in terms of longevity and health optimization. We don't want too much sugar accumulated in the blood. It can lead to peripheral neuropathy, retinopathies, and just overall inflammation, and really obstructing the microvasculature and the inner lining of our blood vessels. So the endothelium, at the very least, insulin resistance is one thing that I like to use testosterone for. Low testosterone can oftentimes allow cholesterol to skyrocket in the absence of it. Testosterone is also necessary for feeding the tiny vessels in the heart. So the microvasculature, oxygen and nutrients. So really also helping with heart muscle contraction.
