The concept of self respect and self love sounds wonderful and then everybody should do it. But the problem is that it sounds so simple. But how do you actually love yourself? I can tell myself I love myself doesn't mean that I am loving myself.
So this is kind of gets into a deeper topic and this is what I've learned that helps people with self love because I feel like for me, the way I was raised, self love wasn't even in my vocabulary or nor was it a part of like any part of my upbringing and I developed a lot of self hate. So with my clients that struggle with self love, I do something called inner child work with them. And what that means is if we could go back in time to when we were about five years old, when we actually did truly love ourselves, all the negative things that you say about yourself and how mean you are to yourself, if you were to look at a picture of your five year old self, would you say those things to that version of you?
