Joy Kong, MD explains why hormone test results can mislead you. Hormones fluctuate based on sleep, calories, and body fat, so a single test doesn't tell the whole story. Testosterone especially swings with calorie intake and low body fat.
Will hormone tests be the fundamentals that you would suggest?
Hormones are incredibly vital, and I think hormones play a more important role in your well being and quality of life. But hormones also, you know, fluctuate. And hormones need to be taken in a context because they can be very sensitive to various activities you do, like sleep, your calorie intake, you know, let's say testosterone. Testosterone is incredibly volatile to your overall calorie intake and your body fat percentage.
We know the reason behind low body fat correlating with low testosterone.
Well, it's mostly just the restriction on energy. So you're just eating less calories and that results in less hormone production and lower thyroid levels.
