Dr. Joy Kong explains why umbilical cord stem cells are her choice: they're biologically younger than other sources, survive longer, and their immaturity makes them less likely to trigger rejection when given to unrelated patients.
Chapters
I'm a big proponent of using umbilical cord derived stem cells because the cells are younger, more potent, they have more differentiation potential. So they can become more things, they live longer, they're more anti inflammatory, more protective, and they also can detect cancer more easily. So I love those cells. And then of course, the question is, okay, you are getting it from one baby, unless you're using it for the same person. Person. Most of the time when I'm doing stem cell therapy, I'm giving it from an unknown person to somebody that's an adult that needs some help with certain aspects of health. So in those cases, because the cells are so young, then they haven't expressed the surface markers and mark them as foreign. Then your body doesn't really recognize it and the cells will go in and do their work.
